Manchester United v. Watford

It's agreed in the contract that Watford can't play Foster against us. It's forbidden in the PL as far as I know, but not in the FA-Cup. But his loan-contract covers up that too.

now that's good thinking by Fergie

Lawrensons Thoughts from the BBC

FA Cup semi-final

Watford v Man Utd (1730 BST)

Manchester United are playing really well at the moment. It is just the power and pace of their game but it is an FA Cup semi-final and it does involve nerves.

A lot of people think that United will just roll Watford over but I don't think that they will because you will get a massive effort from them as well.

I look at Watford and think who is going to score for you against Manchester United. And, at the other end, who is going to be able to cope with the pace and power of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.

I don't think there will be a fear factor from Watford after seeing United beat Roma 7-1.

It was a fantastic result but Roma were poor.

In many ways, you might go there if you are Watford and think you have nothing to lose and 'if they beat Roma 7-1 who is going to back us'.

Prediction: 2-0

Don't think he's thinking straight. I personally think we'll win this one 3-1. It could be running at 1-1 at some point in the game, and we may even come from behind.

Ronaldo, Rooney & Smith
Francis (If he's playing)

you should have let Nick 0208 start the thread

Surely Nick 0208 Ldn should do all match day threads now. :D

I was thinking of taking early retirement actually, while i'm at the top you know. ;)

But as for the game, sure Aidy Boothroyd will have been impressed by what he saw at OT, however i do not think his fear of us will be any greater. It was a unique event, one i was proud to be at, but Watford have been fighting all season [for that is the mentality instilled in them by Boothroyd] and have known in their hearts for some weeksif not months that survival is beyond them.

They are in an FA Cup Semi Final and who would'v'e predicted in August? They have nothing to lose, only glory to gain. Our first match against them and Chelsea's more recently shows that they shoudl not be underestiamted IMO. They will show the fight and work ethic that so helped to undo Roma.

Complacency on our part could put us in a mighty tough position if we're not careful. We have displayed such to our cost more than once this season, Celtic and Copenhagen for example. They possess qualities which Watford don't i hear you say, well what of Exeter then?

Some of you will think i'm too cautious no doubt, but it never sits well with me when there is so much confidence ahead of a game, something being too good to be true and all that. Also respecting the threat despite appearances, of the opposition i suppose.

The way i see it, Watford coudl catch us cold in the early stages of the game if we're not awake to the danger, they almost did it to Chelsea afterall. Avoding that, they'll be damned resilient, chasing and not giving us time to think. Though assuming we get a breakthrough, we should make our better quality tell. Depending on when this happens, will determine the score.

2-0 i reckon, a goal late in eqach half perhaps.

Why do the bbc always predict a 2-0 win to us?

We hardly ever win a game 2 bloody nil.

Injury concerns for Reds

Louis Saha is still not fit enough to play any part in Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Watford, while John O'Shea is doubtful with a calf injury.

Saha has missed the Reds' last eight games because of a hamstring strain. He could be available for Tuesday's Premiership clash with Sheffield United at Old Trafford, but he is more likely to be in contention for the squad to face Middlesbrough next Saturday.

O'Shea meanwhile was withdrawn on 52 minutes against Roma on Tuesday after picking a calf knock and he remains a doubt for Saturday's match at Villa Park.

"John didn't train on Friday," confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson at his pre-match press conference. "Patrice Evra came in at right-back on Tuesday and did very well.

"Paul Scholes is back from suspension - his experience could be important in a semi-final."

fecking hell Saha! I'm leaning more and more towards the "sell Saha"-brigade.

can anyone tell me who started this tradition and why its still around.

I can't help but smile evrytime i see that.

Slabber, a Tottenham supporter and once a poster on here, who obviously wanted us to lose every game.

What he had against Brown, I don't know.

I would start with:

Team

---------------Kuszczak-----------------
-Evra----Brown----Ferdinand----Heinze--
-Fletcher--Scholes---Carrick---Ronaldo--
--------Rooney---------Smith----------

Bench
Van der Sar, Cathcart, Richardson, Giggs, Solskjaer

Thanks to injuries this may be what we have to go with. :annoyed:

Fergie hinted Evra may play there. "Patrice Evra came in at right-back on Tuesday and did very well"

Or maybe Cathcart could start where Evra is. Is he ready for first team action though?

Seems like SAF is saying Evra will play at right back again, so my original thinking still stands. I would rest Giggs maybe?

Brown has scored the odd own goal in his career. Mind you everytime theres a match thread for Liverpool there should be someone who puts Carragher og 90 as he has a reputation of scoring ogs, notably those two on the 11th of September 1999.

Our loss to pompey last week before the roma demolition ought to be a gentle reminder that if we dont play to our potential anyone can beat us.

still

4-0

What a fecking idiot, he credits our victory over the Romans to their poor form rather than our virtuoso performance.

And how can a 7-1 victory NOT be a fantastic result? It's obvious.

Is this Lawro guy from BBC some Liverpool fan, that would make sense, fecking cnut

Of course he is, considering he played for them for over half a decade. He's right up there as the biggest idiots of BBC.

Lawro is a Liverpool fan.

Either way he is a fecking spastic of the highest order and I detest him.

Yes, United beating Roma 7-1 indicates Watford will beat us 2-0.

thanks for the clarification, imagine if Liverpool had beaten Roma in such fashion, the wanking over that would've been endless, fecking hypocrites.

That and he hates United. It must have actually hurt him to see us destroy Roma.

I'm not one to wish bad things one people. But I hope he trips over his shoe laces.
