It doesn’t have to be. A good statement and then pre-season and everyone will have moved on.

A bad start next year and the pitchforks will be out quick of course.

I don’t think so. Even if he is staying they won’t prolong his contract until December.

Do you think? I didn't think it was very common for a manager to go into his final year without signing a new contract, can't say I've paid too much attention to it before now though admittedly

Technically INEOS doesn't have to resolve ETH's situation so quickly for 3 main reasons:
1. Their strategy of not letting the manager to dictate player transfer activities means they can focus on the player transfer before making the manager decision
2. Euro is coming, most 1st team players will not be available to train with ETH or the new manager
3. Give time for themselves to negotiate with several potential new managers. ETH is not going anywhere until this is done anyway

It seems not fair to ETH but what is his other option but to wait. He did not do a good job last season to have much bargaining power with the INEOS people.

Ancelotti was in the final year of his contract last season. Re-signed in December having been heavily linked with the Brazil job. Guardiola famously operated on a rolling one-year deal at Barcelona. Hansi Flick's contract at Bayern expired the year he won the treble, I believe.

Closer to home, Dyche is in the last year of his deal, as is Guardiola. There is no word on an extension for either manager this summer. Moyes' contract just expired after he was offered no new terms, with Lopetegui replacing him.

Honestly, I think somebody just invented this "managers can't be in final year of contract" thing right here on this forum, and now we see it pop up every couple of days.

And that's the issue. Our pressing scheme is bad and we leave massive gaps just behind the front four, gaps that aren't supposed to be filled by the back line but midfielders who within our scheme are engaged extremely high. That's our issue, there are two areas where opponents dominated us, on both flanks and just behind our press and the half way line. The reasons behind it are the way we engaged the CMs and fullbacks. I genuinely don't know where that obsession with the defensively line comes from when it is materially not an issue unless people think that the back line is supposed to cover step up deep into the opposition half, as if the offside rule wasn't a thing. And that's especially true when you are not a heavy possession team, heavy possession teams can play way higher because their game is built around slower build up and very few turnovers.

In fact I noticed something interesting, the teams that complete the most passes per sequence are also the teams that have the highest defensive lines, they are also largely the teams with the slowest transition but that's not as clear.

Even just assuming they met some folks - all it means is they were thinking of it at one point but it was some time ago now - the reality is ETH remains our head coach and there’s been no real news on that at all apart from all the noise which came from that tier 3 guardian journalist who isn’t even that good a source for Chelsea.

Maybe he can still be sacked this summer but it just feels to me like Ratcliffe might want to make a bit of a point here re media. No announcements, no leaks, business as usual and a signal we’re not a circus for them to make money off anymore.

If they do decide to keep him, I can see us giving him a 1 year extension with the (our) option of another year with the caveat there is a strict performance related release clause.

It’s no good for anyone going into the season with his contract expiring at the end of it. I think we would struggle to convince players we have any sort of project if that was the case.

Might just be exactly what INEOS wants, get rid free of charge.

It is not in the best interest of Ten Hag to get the bad news too close to the new season when he would have little option to find a good destination. INEOS can afford to wait it out but for Ten Hag he would want to know how it is going to be sooner. Regardless, whoever express their intention first will have less bargaining power. If I am Ten Hag or his agent, I would be concerned if things drag on too long.

Seems abit odd though doesn’t it. “Erik hope you had a lovely holiday, anyway pack your bags and off you chop”. I don’t think INEOs will do nothing, he’s staying, they have to give him a public backing because the uncertainty hanging around is distracting.
 
ETH will be the manager next year.

INEOS will support him in the transfer market and sign players according to the clubs new policy.

We will have a good next year. I can feel it in my bones.

That would be a blessing and would force INEOS hand which I'd love to see.

He won't be working in a top European club anytime soon.

He'll be working in the second tier of jobs soon enough.
 
They're still looking for a candidate. They're also considering keeping Ten Hag as an option hence no leaks either way so far.

They briefed all the usual suspects this time last week that they were beginning a season review.

But most likely they'd already made their decision one way or the other. If that decision was to sack him then obviously they'll want to let things cool down after the cup win. They'll be mindful of the bad press the club got back in 2016 for sacking LVG the week after the cup win.

True but the sneaky bald bastard did sneak off on holiday about an hour after we won the FA Cup. Wonder if he's tempted to stay there with his phone off until pre season so that they have no option but to keep him
 
It’s not reassuring in the slightest that this is still an ongoing situation. fecking shambles is putting it lightly.
 
I think Ineos will keep ETH without offering a new contract yet.

He will have until Dec to prove he deserve a contract extension. No more excuse on injuries, structure etc. It is his final chance for the next 6 months.

There is no rush to offer him that yet as I don't think any other clubs are desperate to poach him at this point. I hope they don't repeat a mistake of giving a big extension prematurely like what we did for Ole.
 
Maybe they have a specific someone in mind and are looking to make sure he's available before parting ways with Eric?

Doesn't make sense otherwise.

The problem with that is going into another season with such a big decision still hanging in the balance. If they think he's the right man then they need to put their money where their mouth is and back him, give him a contract extension etc. If it were a new manager then he wouldn't be getting until Christmas to prove himself, as they would have chosen that new manager based on their own assessments. So ETH should be the same, either he is the man they want for the medium to long term, or he needs to go. No more 'let's judge at Christmas' etc.
 
If they keep him they'll have to extend his contract for at least one year. Otherwise you're undermining his authority and it's counterproductive.
 
If I had to guess, I think we will hear on Friday if he is sacked.
If he isnt we wont hear anything from the club direct. Might be some noise from the usual jounos. But there wont be an announcement backing the manager because his situation could change at any time.
 
I can't say I'm impressed with how this is being handled now. Still early, so still time for a conclusion to this today, or at least the first half of this week. Nothing being leaked either, which I suppose is actually a positive.
