I have a feeling we will miss out on a lot of targets why we ponder which players we can afford to sign
Yeah, we know exactly who we can afford, the issue is whether we use a lot/all of the current budget early days or wait until we sell some/reduce wages and hope they’re still available.

Also, from 1/7, we should have more as we go into a new PSR year… but how many targets get sold by then?

We aren't top dogs and I don't think we will pay exorbitant fees and wages. Will be interesting to see how we manage that.

Would be extremely underwhelmed by Branthwaite and De Ligt. Yoro and Ignacio are the two to get.

I genuinely don't think De Ligt is better than Maguire.

Dont you think that is a bit general?

Better at what? Football? What type of football? What is the task and in what system? Do you geniuenly think Maguire is a better fit for coaches like a EtH? Or even Pep or Klopp?

I think they're similar players in many way, but Maguire is a more physical and already proven in the PL. You can't complain about the defence and lack of pace preventing this mythical high line, then go for De Ligt.

From an article... sounds familiar.

Thomas Tuchel is not a fan of the Dutchman, being critical of his buildup play — too slow, too many sideways passes, and not enough vertical through balls.

Ajax played with a high line…

I also think there is a significant difference between the two technically. The carrier average passing completion of Maguire is in the lower range while de Ligt is in the higher range. And Maguire is not that much more of a progressive passer.

I agree that there are similarities. But a player like de Ligt is quite comfortable receiving the ball under pressure. The passing stats of de Ligt is similar to players like Stones, Dias and Saliba.

This Branthwaite thing seems like another hiding to nothing. Everton will never sell him cheap because English teams know better than anyone that they can hold United to ransom. I hope we move on when they reject our bids and that we're not doing the same old thing of chasing him all summer just to pay what they wanted on deadline day.

Difference here is that Everton need to raise significant money before the end of June, and I haven’t seen much genuine interest in Calvert-Lewis or Onana - their other two valuable assets.

I’m not convinced he’s what we need but if we do want him, we should make an offer of £40m that expires on the 30th June and be happily prepared to walk away if they haven’t accepted it by then.

Could essentially buy Todibo/Varela or Todibo/Diomande for that sort of money.

I wonder if Maguire would potentially be part of that deal. Say 40m plus Maguire. That could leave funds for a RCB to come in as well or even two depending on Lindelof's future.

Maguire seems suited to Dyche-ball.

Branthwaite price has gone from £60m last week, to £70m yesterday to £80m now..... Media is so full of shit

Just offer a fair price and and if Everton won't sell move on. Don't waste the whole summer chasing a player that we won't get.

I genuinely do not understand the infatuation with Branthwaite. What the hell am I missing for him to be costing this much? Utterly ridiculous.

Well he is not worth £80 million - but he has all the attributes to be an excellent defender. He reminds a LOT of a young Gary Pallister - and I am convinced whoever gets him - will have a top, top defender for the next 10-12 years

Branthwaite is a really promising young defender. I like that we are trying to pick him up. But isn’t Everton in a situation where they need an injection of cash pretty soon? Can they really hold firm on a very high evaluation?

Well of course! Compromises must be made if we want to secure the services of this top level manager! I think that if we're serious about challenging for 7th next season and maybe even a positive goal difference, then we need to make those compromises and give him what he needs!

Of course they can't. Everton need to sell either him or Onana if they plan to strengthen their side in the summer. I think deep down they want to sell Branthwaite but they need to keep up the appearance that they want to keep him to get a good price. But I just can't see Everton turning down £60 million

I wouldn't be surprised if they let him go for £50 million + £6-7 million in long term clauses
