Manchester United Vs Olympic Lyon

The squad we have at the moment is unbelievable. I'm having such trouble picking eleven players. Let's hope Fergie doesn't go bonkers with the tinkering.

---------- VDS ----------
Brown - Rio - Vidic - Evra
Ronaldo - Scholes - Carrick - Nani
--- Tevez - Rooney ---

Subs
PIG, O'Shea, Anderson, Hargreaves, Giggs, Saha, Pique
I'd love this team but its unlikely. More probably replace Nani with either Anderson or Hargreaves - hopefully Anderson.

4-3-3

Back5
Scholes-Carrick-Anderson
Ronaldo-Rooney-Tevez

Nice bench with the possibilities of Nani and Saha to throw on if we need to change the game and Hargreaves if we want to hold on to a lead.

We should win but I have the feeling it won't be as easy as people expect.

We will get knocked out with that formation.

Manchester United 2 Lyon 3
:nono:

prey tell when was the last team to come to old trafford and get 3 goals off us??

Madrid in 00 maybe

I do so a remote possibility that it ends up 2-2 which would knock us out but I think we win this game with at least a goal cushion

Why? It's the normal 4-5-1, with possibility of rotating to the classic 4-4-2.

Pricisely. SAF always plays with 4-5-1. Its like standing on a cliff with a typhoon approaching within 50 metres. Either the typhoon misses us or push us down. So either play 4-4-2, or risk losing it.

Our defence can become disastrous at times. And it often happens on European nights. I am trying to remind everyone not to be too overconfident and assume victory. Especially if SAF wants to use 4-5-1. He seems to be possesed by some ghost during critical European nights at times, as well as in the PL increasingly.

If anyone needs streams, pm me anytime before the game and I'll send them.

I fully expect us to win. It won't be easy, I don't think any matches in Champions League are these days, but we really have no excuses not to finish this one off. We've been pontificating for years about how we should be winnning this competition...so stop doing the soundbites about what a disaster it will be if we don't qualify for the next round and just play and make sure we do :smirk:

With our excellent home record and that record to play for too, not to mention actually winning the match and qualifying to next round. I think we will win this 2-0 but i don't think it will be a quiet night for our defenders. Ronaldo & Rooney to score
VDS
BROWN - RIO - VIDA - EVRA
SCHOLES - CARRICK
RONNIE - ANDERSON - NANI
ROONEY

Bench: Tevez, Hargreaves, Saha, Pique, O'Shea

probably going to miss the game live (3pm here) so I'll have to settle for a re-run at 6pm or so.

only difficult thing about that is working when I know the game is on and the updates are only a click away - or when I walk into the pub some numpty might give away the result. :annoyed:

Where do you live ? In the US ?

Not really nervous now, but will probably get more nervous closer to kick off. Anway, I'm leaving for Manchester now. So keep this thread sane caftards.

Im home "sick" from work :nervous:. The only problem is my group leader is a united fan. He is like the only other person in my 6,000 person company that follows the great game.

Oh well hes probably home "sick" as well:lol:

People still listen to Hycool then? Thought the general rule was ignore whatever he says... I do.

Ben Arfa claims we are wobbly at the back:

"I have noticed the attacking potential at Man United is huge. But at the back, there are some gaps. We can really score goals against team. We have to go there with a lot of ambition."

Some might call this a stupid statement, considering we've conceded less (and from more games) than any other top division side in England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Belgium, Turkey, Austria or Holland - the only exeption being Bayern Munich (who have only played 22 games, while we've played 28). We do prehaps seem a tad less sound in Europe, though. Also, the game takes place at Old Trafford, where we never ever concede. Almost.

Just about the only good thing at the moment about returning to Israel is the reasonable footy hours.

don't think it will be a close game. a Lyon void in class. marseille are not the Lyon of old. i grant you all, yes we were lucky to nick a late goal, but even if we hadn't it wouldnt have made much of a difference. our boys will put Lyon to the sword tonight. look at roma when we needed a result last season with the return leg at OT. flogged them.

all this talk of tight games and even draws is nonsensical. 3 or 4 nil. for fun.

Lyon will go for the throat in the first 15. they be knackered by half time. expect a professional defensive performance first half from united, and an onslaught second half.

Top preview.
If only we had to play Marseille and not Lyon...

Can't wait for this game, have feck all to do before kick-off.
