What about
Macheda?
Petrucci?
Brady?
Ajose?
Brandao?
Cathcart?
Hewson?

Macheda and Petrucci especially???

James, Drinkwater and Norwood are worth a mention as well.

Whoever likened him to a young Saha seemed about right in terms of physique.

But please don't curse him.

just hope we have a long run in the CC so he can get more games!

Great to see united producing far better youngsters than Arsenal and Liverpool.

Playing at Old Trafford in front of over 50'000 people as a lone striker when you are just 17 (not 19 as incorrectly stated by the BBC) and looking quite impressive for about 60 minutes. Not much else I can add to be honest.
Rooney would have bagged a brace at that age, including a thirty yard thunderbolt that left the opposition slack-jawed in amazement. And as every third thread in this forum will tell you, Rooney's been a massive disappointment. So I think we need to sell Welbeck ASAP before we're stuck with another flop in the squad.

I think Chris_H is the one being slack-jawed because it surely seems like he has know clue about what this kid is made of. Probably has seen him play. He has plenty of potential and he is a raw talent which is why he is at the right place where his potentials can be nurtured and realized.

Had a good cameo tonight, immediate impact. Would like to see him on the bench for the weekend.

:lol:You are truly the cafe's king of satire and sarcasm, says the chief:cool:

Played well by all accounts. Would like to see him get some games, but would also like to see Manucho get a chance. He looked very promising in his little cameo against Middlesbrough.

I dont have MUTV so dont see the reserves play, so is Welbbeck and Rafael actually any good or is it just the usual spastics wankfest over anyone with a silly name?

Wellbeck looks like a very good prospect (he's only 17 i think still at the moment so he's got a long time ahead of him). And Rafael is of course a great prospect, just needs to calm down with the slide tackles as he throws himself in a bit too early sometimes.

Rafael is probably the best player currently in the world in his position and age group, together. Bar for injury, its a case of when not if for Rafael.

Welbeck certainly isn't though. One of a few good English striker prospects but in terms of development behind the likes of Victor Moses (Although technically he's Nigerian). He could still be around in 2-3 years time, but its more likely he'll be a squad player than a first team starter. Of course, nobody can accurately predict how much he'll develop. He could kick it up a gear. Having said that I'm no expert on either player, just a handful of matches I've seen either one of those two partake in. This is just what I've seen so far.

I've seen every televised Welbeck performance, usually more than once, both for us and for Ingerland and the seventeen year old has real quality and composure and a temperament to match.
He has every chance of becoming a regular first team player.
I am looking forward to watching last night's game on MUTV later tonight.

Bit premature surely?

It seems pretty true at this moment in time compared to Liverpool anyway. Maybe they have some good players in their reserves but they have not put them out on the pitch to the extent that United have put out Rafael and Evans.

But obviously no team on earth has produced as many world class young players as Arsenal.

It was basically Arsenal i had in mind when i posted that. We can whinge as much as we like about the 'wankfest' over their kids, but no team's youth consistently do what they do in the cup to premierleague opposition.

Although no other team's youth gets the opportunity.

I think a team consisting entirely of United teenages could beat a fair few Premier League clubs. Thing is, Fergie likes to give some of the more senior players games too.

And yes, we didn't exactly excel against QPR but in a one-off game of footy, anything is possible. We came fecking close to absolutely tonking a very strong Boro side in the last round of the CC and all our best players on the night were kids.

Goals were scored by Ronaldo and Giggs against Boro though isn't it. That's almost like cheating if we're going to try and take on Arsenal for the battle of the young'ns.

I just think we get quite defensive when Arsenal's kids get praised, and for me, they have earned it. We got caned at Old Trafford last season by Coventry let's not forget.

Of course they've earned it.

This doesn't mean our own kids couldn't achieve something similar, given the chance. You could argue that a team consisting entirely of our reserves would perform better than a mixed bag of kids and first-teamers, who've never played a game together in their lives. What makes the Arsenal kids so effective is that they operate as a unit and know each other's games backwards.

It could backfire if we tried the same thing though and, with the size of our squad, it makes sense to give some playing time to the likes of Neville, Tevez, Nani etc.

Just saying they have more hard evidence basically. We are hypothesising. Of course we have talented youth, and they could in theory could impress against PL teams. But until another team actually DOES it, we will continue to, and rightly so, get less press than Arsenal's kids. That's all.

Saying we have much better youngsters than Arsenal on the basis of Welbeck impressing in a run out is unjustified. If a gooner turned around and said he was not as good as Vela, we can't really argue until Welbeck demonstrates he is.

I would rate Welbeck higher as he has already played against Prem defenders and did really well, also he has always shined when he played for England.

Maybe he did enough to earn himself a spot on the bench now and again? Maybe a start against Aalborg if we can beat Villareal in the next match?

I assume you are joking? :nono:

The London press love to wax lyrical about Arsenal's reserves.....

In recent times Arsenal have had a good record with their Youth policy but these things go around in cycles.

Don't forget, our youth team beat them in the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup last year!

Consistently over the years our system has produced significantly more first team players and internationals.
