Manchester United vs Aston Villa

Im very very excited about this one, the first game I dont watch at home/work. So I will be surrounded by strangers for the first time this season. I hope we put in a great performance.

First time in a long time we've had som real pressure on us in the league.

Jacob's prediction

Line-up:

----------------------------------VDS----------------------------
O'Shea-----------Ferdinand---------Evans-------------Evra
-------Park-------------Carrick----------------Fletcher--------
---------------------------------------------Giggs----------------
-----------Ronaldo-----------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Tevez--------------------------

Score: Manchester United 2 - 1 Aston Villa

Goals: Tevez, Carrick

Player to watch: Cristiano Ronaldo

I'll just reiterate my belief that we won't see Carrick on the pitch, and give my lineup

VDS
O Shea Ferdinand Evans Evra
Nani Giggs Fletcher Park
Ronaldo Tevez

bench: Foster, Gibson, Welbeck, Possebon, Carrick, Fabio, Neville.

Rooney, Vidic, Scholes and Carrick in for Nani, Evans, Giggs and Fletcher respectively for Porto.

2 - 0 to us, Ronaldo and Tevez.

Given the suspensions/injuries today, my new line-up is:

---------------VDS-----------------
O'Shea----Rio--------Evans-----Evra
Park-----Carrick-----Fletch------Nani
----------Ronaldo--Tevez-----------

Subs: Foster, Neville, Fabio, Gibson, Giggs, Welbeck, Macheda.

I think Rio will be okay to play, what's the word on Anderson's injury? I'd like to see Nani get a game. Start Ronnie up front with Carlitos.

2-0: Ronaldo and Tevez.

IMO i think we should play with 2 genuine strikers. Welbeck and Macheda have been producing for the reserves and i'm not a big fan of Tevez in the lone role.

VDS
Shea
Rio
Evans
Evra
Ronaldo
Carrick
Fletcher
Nani
Tevez
Welbeck/Macheda

Subs: Foster, Park, Giggs, Neville, Welbeck/Macheda, Fabio, Gibson

We cannot put that type of responsibilty on 2 players who havent had a good run in the team, i understand many have been fustrated with our lack of goals off late and we are hoping that we can bring in some youngesters and that will take us up another gear but it cant happen. I agree with most of your team but i say Ronaldo and Tevez up front, i agree Tevez shouldnt be up there on his own as he cannot play that role but can play behind a CF, with Park for Welbeck/Macheda. Also Welbeck/Macheda have done it against teenagers in the reserves (Welbeck has done it a few times in the first team i know) but at PS level defenders they will have a much tougher time.

We need a result today and imo experience will see us through it

Macheda isn't in the squad. And at this point Ronaldo + Tevez up top with Nani on the wing > Welbeck and Tevez up top with Ronaldo on the wing.

I want Giggs to start, he's done well making makeshift attacking lineups look awesome

Honestly with the players we have out we need someone on the bench who can come on if we need to change the game.

really nervous ..
havent felt like this for a while ..
bad form + players missing and against a villa side who will be desperate to bounce back after some recent poor games ...
i know we would want to do the same .. but this wont be easy

Oshea - rio - evans - evra
ronaldo-carrick-fletch-park?
---------giggs
----------tevez?

park and tevez have travelled a long way ...
is rafael fit again .. he has been out for more than a month now isnt it

Ronaldo has started upfront a couple of times, and it does look like a position he's not accustom to ( Take the recent Sweden game). He's better when he's running AT people, not with his back turned to them.

Although i agree, experience will be vital towards this encounter. This is a really bad time to lose Berba and Rooney.

I'm bricking it.

I saw him play upfront in the Barca game away last season and i thought he did well considering he was surrounded by their players every time he got the ball

Tbf the team on a whole wasn't producing much attacking intent during that match so its hard to judge him playing in that role based on that match. But he did do a job there and should have had another penalty when Marquez took him out.

Its a real shame Rooney is suspended, he's in such a rich vein of form i reckon he would bag a few today.

Totally agree, when ever Rooneys in the pitch i get that feeling "its all going to be ok" but when hes not i do worry. Its not only about the form hes in but what he does on the pitch that other players cannot do, i suppose we just have to trust the team to get the win we need today

Can VDS play 4 games 10 days? Foster or Kuszczak could play today or next week at Sunderland (if not then in the FAC semi-final).

Tevez & Ronaldo up front
2 from Park Giggs Nani
O'Shea or Neville
Anderson fit for bench?

I think we'll save him for Porto - his passing ability and breaking down opposition moves ability will be better served against a team that isn't intent on parking the bus, as I believe Villa will be here.

a quote from SAF

"The boy Macheda is developing at a great rate of speed now. He's a natural finisher and he will definitely be on the bench at least, with Welbeck."
______

so unless its totally out of context and he's talking about another game it means today.

I remember last season for the City game (i think it was the home game) he said Welbeck would definately be involved and he didnt even make the bench. Today morning i actually thought that SAF would use that and secretly bring Berba into the fold...

For the 7000th time, see: Game v City last season re: Welbeck.

7000 times? wow thats a lot. I have no idea whether he is in the squad or not. our manager says he is. you say he isn't. not really something to get uptight about. just some prematch guessing games. if he aint there so be it. but if he is. well you've got an appointment with a webcam;)

of course VDS could play 4 games in 10 days lol, he is a keeper, not asthough he needs to run alot is it

Today is perhaps the first time in a long time i have been scared about a United game, in the past i would be calm and say "what ever happens happens" but because us slipping up would open the door for Liverpool i dont think i could take that...

This game is a must win one, if we don't will be hard: CL + PL. But let’s have faith brothers!

I think a win would be just the tonic. but so long as we dont lose I wont be too upset. given the suspensions and injuries and the fact villa are on a terrible run and will be looking to put themselves right. we need to steady the ship after the last 2 results. liverpool will drop points and there are plenty of games to go.

Exactly SAF didnt go for the saturday KO because he wanted a extra day to work with the players, but that meant we only have a day to prepair for Porto. He knows a win and we would be up for Porto but a draw/defeat and the Porto game will be a lot harder
