Manchester United v. Portsmouth

----------------VDS------------------
O'Shea------Rio------Vidic--------Evra
Park-------Carrick--Fletcher-----Ronnie
---------Rooney-----Berbatov---------

Subs: Foster, Neville, Evans, Anderson, Scholes, Giggs, Tevez.

Giggs instead of Carrick -- If Carrick is still injured

A midfield of Carrick, Anderson and Giggs works best. Fletcher would be a good deputy if Carick is not available.

Nani should start in place of Park.

If Rooney isn't ready, dont play him - Tevez, Berbatov, Macheda and Ronaldo should be more than enough for this game.

If Rooney doesn't play, it has to be one of Tevez or Berbatov to play with Macheda.

but saf is pissed with nani for wasting opportunities to take a shot from far out and also for giving away the ball.

I'd LIKE to see:

Van Der Saar
Rafael
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra
Giggs
Carrick
Anderson
Ronaldo
Rooney
Tevez

Wouldn't get it though as Rafael put in 120mins on Sunday, so O'Shea will probably play. And Berbatov will probably play.

I just think that if Ronaldo plays the wings (whichever side at whatever time), we'd have two attacking full-backs and enough central midfield control.

And we're playing at home, so a 4-man midfield isn't essential.

But, we all have teams we'd LIKE to see...

I hate playing Portsmouth. They always play the game of their lives against us.

Berbatov will more than likely play. SAF will want him to recover from the penalty miss. I hope Nani plays as well, I can't see any other reason for Park playing instead of him at the weekend.

i want us to play a 3 again like we did v porto

van der sar

o shea - ferdinand - vidic - evra

carrick - scholes - anderson

ronaldo - berbatov - rooney

it would be good to see evans, rafael and nani maybe make an appearance if things are going well for us

ferdinand, evra and ronaldo could get a rest again

Van der Sar
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Ronaldo Giggs Fletcher Park
Rooney Tevez

-----------------------VDS----------------------

--O Shea--------Rio--------Vidic---------Evra---

--Nani---------Carrick----Scholes-------Ronaldo-

---------------Berbatov---Rooney---------------

Subs: Kuzczak, Brown, Giggs, Tevez, Evans, Fletcher, Macheda
Prediction:2-0 win for us with goals from Rooney, Nani

Team should be....

GK: VDS

RB: O'Shea
CB: Vidic
CB: Evans
LB: Evra

RM: Ronaldo
CM: Fletcher
CM: Giggs
LM: Nani

CF: Rooney
CF: Berbatov

Subs: Foster, Neville, Rafael, Scholes, Anderson, Tevez, Macheda

4-0 battering  Berbatov x2 Ronaldo and Rooney with the goals

You don't know that.

He read it in the spoiler column where he gets all of his inside information.

Rest all of those that started at the weekend (except Rio/Vidic). Anderson may play due to Carricks injury, but i'd put him on the bench.

-------------VDS-------------
--Neville---Rio---Vidic---Evra--
-Ronnie-Fletcher-Scholes-Park-
------Rooney---Berbatov------

That'll be enough to tear Portsmouth a new arsehole.

I fear we'll start with something like this:

Van der Sar
Neville Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Scholes
Ronaldo Giggs Nani
Berbatov
--
Subs: Foster; O'Shea, Evans; Anderson, Park; Tévez, Rooney.

This seems likely. I would prefer Rooney to start over Giggs, but at the same time it might be best to use him as an impact player and not force him to play the whole game if his injury isn't completely healed. Tévez played a lot against Everton so maybe Macheda would get on the bench again. Anderson has played around 200~ minutes of football recently so he'll be on the bench. I think Nani will start over Park for this one, just because Park started against Everton.

Carrick is out (I think), so Fletcher will come in. Scholes and Giggs should be fresh so will probably start. Ronaldo was always playing. Berbatov will be our freshest striker and will need to prove himself and win the fans over, so he'll start (and score). Neville to come back in, O'Shea can go on the bench again and let Gary have some more minutes. Evans is the best choice for another back-up defender and Foster, yeh. Twin towers in defence. Evra back in too.

I've said we will beat Portsmouth 3-0 at Old Trafford for some reason ever since the fixture was announced / people started talking of games in hand. So I'll stand by that.

Ronaldo and Berbatov to score, with either Nani, Giggs, or Scholes scoring, or Anderson / Rooney coming off the bench to finish it in the last 20 minutes.

Hopefully those Gooners will do us a favour a bit later on tonight.

Edit: Also, Gibson probably deserves to be on the bench but it was too hard to fit him in and he put in a long shift on Sunday.

More onus on this match tomorrow now with Arses capitulation against the shell-suited ones

why does everyone think it will be easy

is glenda back from his suspension ?
i would take any win .. a scrappy OG from pompey would do just fine

It won't be easy but if we can't beat Portsmouth at home we don't deserve the title.

I hoping for a good performance tomorrow, it's a must win game. As much as it hurts me to say, we need to show similar spirit that the Scousers showed tonight, they look hungry as feck! We need to do the same against Pompey. It's about time we shut the media up with all this talk about us not being in top gear, we need to show them why we're worthy of champions. C'mon United!

spirit is a great thing but i like our clinical approach like we showed in porto. The chances will come and we will take a few of them hopefully. Long as we keep them out we will win.

Liverpool is nothing more then Newcastle from 96 the way they are playing now. It may be spirited but ultimately its the losing formula

I'll be more than happy with a tight 1-0 victory. At this stage of the season it's all about getting the 3 points.

I'd be happy for a nervy 2-1 at the moment

:nono:

No way man, I've had enough of those recently. They can't be good for the old ticker

2 - 0 would be lovely. I would love United's defence to get that utmost confidence back again. A clean sheet would be brilliant

Pompey haven't lost any of their last five (= after the international break). This isn't as worrying as it sounds though, because other than Everton the opposition has been very poor:
Middlesbrough (a) 1-1
Everton (h) 2-1
Hull (a) 0-0
W.B.A. (h) 2-2
Bolton (h) 1-0

Although they haven't won any of their last nine away games, they're not that bad - they have drawn six of those.

Confident about this one. Our players should have had time to relax and bring their heads back into the game. With the defense back in place the only thing we need is an all cylinder firing attack - And I've got a feeling it'll start delivering tomorrow.

I predict a breezy 3-0 win.

They have a thread on RAWK compelling their ex-players to become legends

Distin is calling for a repeat of last year's heroics in the FA Cup from Portsmouth in the papers...maybe he was at a different game where they didn't get absolutely trounced and then awarded a dodgy penalty or perhaps "jammy utter shite" translated poorly from the French came out as "heroics".

With the players we have we really should batter them tonight. They are a poor side.

Whilst I would be happy with a 1-0 a resounding win is what is needed.

This would help to restore momentum, confidence and just as importantly goal difference. It would also have correspondingly negative impacts on Liverpool and Chelsea.

Most things in our favour (almost) a fully fit squad with our best players rested and Portsmouth missing Kaboul (probably) and Krancar (definitely).

FA Cup QF aside, their record is not great at OT. What's more, Portsmouth are almost safe with a big game coming up on Monday away at the barcodes. Could they have their eyes drifting towards a more 'winnable' game?

Can't see them opening up at OT - five across the middle with Crouch as the lone target man. So flair players should play i.e. Scholesy, Nani and Berbatov.

Assuming Carrick injured, also rest FAC SF players so Utd:

VDS

O'Shea Vidic Rio Evra

Fletcher Scholes

Nani Rooney Ronaldo

Berbatov

Manchester United 3 - 0 Pompey (Anderson x3)

and for fecks sake, let berbatov score so people will calm down.

shouldn't you have predicted 4-0? :p

I'm confident about tonight. Anderson to score with a pair of hookers
