Manchester United vs. Aston Villa

tough game
villa have some decent players who can trouble any side on their day ..
us having a makeshift backline wont help

any win would do ..
a 97th min controversial penalty please

----------van der Sar

Brown-Ferdinand-Vidic-Evans

Rafael-O'Shea-Hargreaves-Fabio

-------Rooney-Berbatov

Any problems with that line-up?

Villa are a good team, need the home crowd to create an electric atmosphere and inspire the boys to a win.

PIG
RB - Fletch
CB - Carrick
CB - Vidic
LB - Evra
CM - Anderson
CM- Gibson
CM - Scholes
LW - Giggs
RW - Valencia
CF - Rooney

Thats how i'd start at least (if only Vidic returns from injury off course)

I hope we go with Rooney as a lone striker. We need more strength in midfield to cope with our patched-up defence. My team would be:

-----------Vds------------
Fletch-Carrick-Vidic-Evra
-----Scholes-Anderson---
Valencia--Gibson--Giggs
---------Rooney--------

Looks familiar :)

Play Fletch and Anderson in the middle and DeLeat at RB

Vidic is back according to SAF.

And he basically said it would be: Fletcher - Carrick - Vidic - Evra

I don't really get the VDS thing. Phelan said last week he was fit, now he's due back NEXT weekend?

With Scholes suspended (and what a ridiculous booking that one last week against West Ham was) and Fletch and Carrick out of our midfield, you have to be very worried about this game. Giggs is a possibility with Gibson and Anderson for a midfield three, with perhaps Valencia, Rooney and Berbs up top.

What about bringing in Obertan out wide and have him and Valencia with Rooney in the middle replicating the way we finished against Wolfsburg? I've nothing against Berbatov, but I think Gabby has perhaps played himself into a starting role over the past few weeks when we've seen him play either from the start or from the bench.

Obertan has been poor in the past few weeks in general. One good 20 minute spell shouldn't propell him into starting XI territory. He needs to learn to defend a bit more.

fletch will be a huge loss in midfield if he is played RB

could park play RB and fletch in midfield

think we might go 4-5-1 to help the defenders a bit
i hate injuries

Agree - wonder whether or not Sir Alex might be tempted to play De Laet at right back to release Fletch to midfield. Seem to remember he did a reasonable job on Lennon in the 2nd half of Spurs game - after all he is one of our few fit defenders.

Yes, hadn't thought of Park. Completely agree with your view about needing Fletch in midfield.

i'd stick de laet on the right, we need fletch in the middle of the park, pulling the strings.

Plus him and anderson work well together.

Really? He's been our best dribbler this season I'd say, more reliable than Nani in an attacking sense and offers us something different.

Wouldn't say he's been poor by any stretch, in fact if you include him just being back from injury and coming so cheap he's done excellently.

Huh?

Hes' hardly played any football, how can he be poor for "the past few weeks in general"?

He's had one poor game but loads of impressive cameos. I don't think he should start either (I don't think his fitness is quite there yet) but feck knows where you got the idea about him spending the last few weeks being "poor in general".

This will be my penultimate United game I watch before going to work in Oman

Starting XI:---------- Kuszczak -------------------
De Laet ----- Brown -------------- Vidic ------ Evra
Valencia ---- Carrick ------------ Fletcher ---- Giggs
-------------Rooney ------------- Owen -----------

Bench: Foster, Gibson, Anderson, Obertan, Park, Nani, Berbatov

Based on the latest injury info, it might go something like this....

Starting XI:---------- Kuszczak -------------------
Fletcher ----- Carrick-------------- Vidic ------ Evra
Valencia ---- Anderson ------------ Gibson ---- Giggs
-------------Rooney ------------- Owen -----------

Bench: Foster, Obertan, Park, Welbeck, Macheda, DeLaet

Man Utd Squad
Kuszczak, Foster, Fletcher, Vidic, Carrick, Evra, Park, Nani, Valencia, Obertan, Anderson, Scholes, Gibson, Giggs, Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Welbeck

Starting 11

--------Kuszczak

Fletcher Carrick Vidic Evra

Valencia Gibson Anderson Giggs

-------Owen Rooney

Subs
Foster
Park
Nani
Obertan
Welbeck
Berbatov
(Scholes) - Suspended

Taking injuries into account id like to see us go in with this:

------------------Kuszczak
--De Laat----Carrick-----Vidic------Evra
-Valencia---Fletcher-----Anderson---Giggs
------------Berbatov----Rooney

But think fergie will go with:

-------------------Kuszczak
--Fletcher-----Carrick------Vidic-------Evra
--Valencia-----Gibson-----Anderson----Nani/Park
----------------------Giggs
---------------------Rooney

Think with the makeshift defence he'll want as much cover/bodies in midfield as possible hence Giggs may well play at the top end of a midfield 3 dropping in when we lose the ball....

Fletch at rb seems like a waste, we need him more in midfield right now....

with scholes suspended .. if fletch and carrick play at the back , surely giggs plays in the middle ..

park and valencia on the wings ?

SUBS: Foster, De Laet, Obertan, Nani, Park, Owen, Welbeck.

I'd be very surprised if this wasn't the team to be honest; possibly Owen for Berbatov although I think we may see that after an hour or so.

Massive game for us really. I'd hate to see Chelsea increase their gap just the week after we managed to cut their lead.

Why do people persist with wanting to play Fletcher in denfense ffs he is a midfielder and DeLeat can play there
