Hull City Vs. Manchester United

A win is vital - that much is obvious, but if we are going to stake our claim we need to do it convincingly. I want to see us win 3-0 because after Fulham other teams will draw some confidence and have a go at our back line and it will be up to us to show them who we are.

On a individual front, Berba desperately needs some goals, and I hope he scores a beauty because we really need to see the best of him in 2010 if we're going to get #19.

442 Please. Lets put them to the sword...

yeah, hopefully it is a big win with some sexy football as well

The attack will have to have it's act together then.

Rooney specifically.

Berba needs a good performance. If he doesn't cut it against Hull then I think the majority of us will be wondering what exactly he's good for taking up a place in the attack.

Anyway, I'm all for swords and the putting them to.

Looks like a tricky selection for Sunday's defense.

Can the twins play at CB ?

I'd rather Rooney play there than either of the twins

Hmm, so are Brown and Vidic both out for this? I was quietly expecting to see Neville, Brown, and Vidic back for this.. So now I'm disappointed. Hopefully our medical team can get at least one of Brown or Vidic fit. Having Rafael and Fábio back is a plus, don't get me wrong, but I think it has to be one or the other against Hull, not both. But I'm not sure who else Sir Alex will really want to shove in that centreback position, as at the moment, having four fit full backs and using them all just isn't an option IMO. I'd imagine he'd want to stick Fletcher and Carrick there, but I really want one of them back in midfield for this, most likely Fletcher.

I can see Sir Alex playing a defence of:

Kuszczak
Rafael Carrick Evra Fábio

If both Brown and Vidic don't make it, and while I can see it working to a degree.. Losing Evra down the left is something I don't think we can afford to do. If Evra is fit, he has to be playing left back.

If we get a bit of luck and have at least one of Brown or Vidic, then it just has to be something like this:

Kuszczak
Fábio Vidic Carrick Evra
Valencia Fletcher Anderson Giggs
Berbatov Rooney
--
Foster; Rafael, de Laet; Gibson, Scholes; Obertan, Owen

Got to say we'll win this, nothing else is acceptable. Chelsea are without Drogba, Anelka, and Essien (as well as a few other players) and they're running into a very much in-form Birmingham side and then Fulham after that. Two tough games for a Chelsea side not at full strength, while we have Hull and Wigan while we're expecting defenders back. This could be a big chance to make up a few more points before the New Year so we have to win both, and preferably win well.

I'd prefer De Laet to Carrick at centreback.

I'd definitely want De Laet to play in the centre as opposed to one of the twins - they're just not strong enough in the air.

Drogba is fit dickhead.

Why does everyone seem to favour playing Fabio out of position at RB over Rafael there?

I would say it depends on fitness and form. Rafael has been injured more often this season and has hardly featured in the team. Fabio has played more this year, is naturally right footed and seems capable of playing in both full back positions. But Rafael is intended to be our future RB so its about time he is trusted with that role again.

SAF says the Da Silvas are available. I'm all for playing an inexperienced player in his rightful position, instead of putting someone like Fletcher in an alien role.

He says he hopes one of Vidic/Brown will be back.

If we can get two wins from Hull (a) and Wigan (h), then I think we'll be in great nick, considering we'll be getting a lot of players back in the New Year.

Even if Berbatov is not fit to start I really hope SAF doesn't go 4-5-1. Rather see Welbeck play up front than trying to fit Gibson or Park in there. The side needs to win the midfield battle and I feel Fletcher/Scholes can do this, or Fletcher/Anderson. I don't want to see Fletcher wasted in defense ever again. He's too valuable in midfield.

---------------PIG--------------
Rafael---Carrick---De Laet---Evra
Valenca-Fletcher-Scholes-Obertan
--------Rooney---Welbeck-------

Subs: Foster, Fabio, Anderson, Gibson, Nani, Park, Owen

This assuming Brown, Vidic, Berbatov and Giggs are out/will not be risked.

I would really like to see Nani play at least once in the next two matches. Maybe he'll grab the game by the neck and show SAF he wants this.

Says who? the sun newspaper? both the BBC and sky sports have him in the squad...there was no mention of any injury in Fergies pre match press conferance on thursday either.....so your basing that on a sun newspaper story...a story that didnt have a single quote in it to boot....

Because we're going to lose the league on goal difference.

Remember 2008, goal difference could have been so vital if we lost that game against Wigan on the last game of the season. It's important to score as many goals as we can against small teams.

We were about a minute away from winning the League on goal difference that year.

lets take advantage of the dropped points FFS...

Brown, meanwhile, is looking forward to shaking the hand of the man he regards as “the greatest manager that has ever lived”.

That is how highly the Hull chief rates Fergie, who phoned Brown with a message of support when his job was on the line.

Brown revealed: “I got a phone-call from Sir Alex – for me the greatest manager ever lived.

“He told me it is about remembering where you are from and your roots.

“I appreciated him taking the time to call little old Phil Brown from South Shields when things were not going so well."

Have we had a confirmed traveling squad yet?

Jacob's prediction

Line-up:

-------------------------Kuszczak----------------------
De Laet---------Brown------------Vidic----------Evra
Valencia--------Carrick---------Fletcher---------Nani
------------------Rooney----------Owen---------------

Score: Hull City 0 - 2 Manchester United

Goals: Rooney (2)

Player to watch: Wayne Rooney

We should score at least 4. Hope we go for it with 2 attacking wingers, 2 strikers and no Park/Welbeck. Would be a good game for Nani if fit. If not, Obertan or Tosic please.

We were about a minute away from winning the League on goal difference that year.

It affects everything though. That year, we played Chelsea away and lost 2-1 but hardly went at them full tilt. SAF knew we could afford to lose because we had a goal difference advantage and that that would make the difference at the end of the day.

*slightly off the point I know

Prediction is a bit silly, Brown will obviously play CB if he is available.

I'd like to see that team - is Berba injured?

Yeah, and if we hadn't done that we might not have won the European Cup because Barcelona might have beaten us. A superior goal difference is worth half a point, it's not something to be sniffed at.

Giggs is doubtful... great team, Anderson has had a good season and will probably come in for Giggs if he's not fit.
