When he matures probably........When will he play like Ronaldinho ?
Spot on. Memories of many on here are too short. He has brilliant vision but hit-and-miss technique. The passing ability will come - he's better at it than Scholes was at that age.
............
I will not eat my words, ....
Maybe. But I doubt it. I feel ala Rooney he is going through slow, painful but necessary advancements in his play. After all we are converting into a CM from a pure in the hole player.Tim Vickery said a few years back that Anderson had "the acceleration of the Millennium Falcon". Its a quote that has always stuck in my mind.
Vickery, if you dont know, is a brilliant journalist that covers South American football for the BBC as well as other football magazines and websites. He does the great 5 Live World Football Phone in.
He is often asked questions about Anderson.
As we all know, Fergie changed Anderson from an attacking centre/left mid to more of a defensive mid - it worked well in his first season.
Vickery has said many times that he, as well as many coaches in Brazil, were baffled when they heard that Fergie was playing Anderson as a defensive mid....
BBC - BBC Sport: Tim Vickery: Anderson provides midfield balance
When you hear about what he produced at the Under 17 World Cup, it makes me wonder if Anderson shouldn’t be playing in behind a striker or at left mid....
I wonder if he lost "the acceleration of the Millennium Falcon" when he broke his leg at Porto.
Yet when you recall games like the Arsenal demolition in the fa cup. You see why he should. When you watch him in games like last night or at Turf Moor you can see exactly why he should never be playing behind a striker, or at left mid..
So?Rio Ferdinand played in midfield when he was in his teens. A midfielder he is not.
Then signed for the talent grave yard of Liverpool. As for playing brilliantly in a single game in the U-17 World Cup. Sinama-Pongolle was voted player of the tournament a couple of seasons before him
Toni Kroos is not a ''who'' at all. He is currently shining at Leverkursen on loan from Bayern Munich.and some bloke called Toni Kroos (who?) the season after.

2 champions league demolitions of Arsenal. Just last season. How is that for 'length''?Hold on, didn't you say games?
Care to add another to that long list?

(Since you alone brought up length)

No they did not. In the FA cup game Anderson was the best player on pitch bar none. Things all utterly irrelevant to the point I was making to Pogue. Both Fletcher and Carrick outshone Anderson in all 3 of those matches against Arsenal.

Not to forget his game this season against Chelsea, Tottenham and Wolfsburg

I've already mentioned the games against Chelsea (where we created feck all) and Wolfsburg (where we were overrun for long periods). Add Spurs to that very short list and you've got a total of three games where he was at least influential (albeit not very creative). Out of how many?
I think my "Liam Miller every second game" comment is being kind, if anything.
Don't you think the slating of Anderson is eerily similar to the slating of a certain Darren 'can't pass the ball' Flecther? This whole thread is seriously spooky in that it is so strikingly similar to how people crucified Fletcher after every game we played. I remember things like: "He can't pass...his technique is poor...he disappears...he keeps losing the ball...he can't compare to the Gerrards and Scholes of this world"...Weird, eh?

It's also eerily similar to the slating of a certain Kieran 'my cousin's a bitch' Richardson. Weird, eh?
Also worth bearing in mind that Fletcher was growing up in public at a time when the competition for his place came from the likes of Phil Neville and Alan Smith. I still think Anderson will become a decent enough player but I draw the line at 'tards who insist that Anderson should be starting games ahead of players in our team who are clearly a helluva lot better at the basics of playing in central midfield than he is.

As long as you don't slate Berbatov, Fletcher or Carrick it's ok for him.
All of whom would be part of our best XI, based on what they've already shown this season.
This is in contrast to Anderson and Nani who have done nothing this season to suggest they should be in the starting XI. Hence, I tend to disagree with people who think they should be.
sometimes there is Godfather, when someone is being uneccessarily thran/stubborn and refusing to acknowledge through their own eyes what 99% of other fans are telling them
Well I agree with this, what I don't like in your posts though to some extent Pogue, is that you pretty easily start to give names or slate others that don't agree with you, calling them tards or mentally ill, and there is no need for that.
Oh and btw, Carrick hastn done that well this season in my opinion and wouldnt get into my best XI for this season

I use 'tards as an abbreviation for "caftards", not intended as an insult at all.
I only imply people are mentally ill when they suggest we drop our best and most consisent midfielder all season and replace him with Anderson, after two poor games (despite the fact that Anderson himself has been absolutely dire in his most recent couple of games).

The fundamental issue is his physical conditioning. He looks overweight and cumbersome at the moment. He was utterly irrelevant against Man City; off the pace and just ambling around the field contributing nothing to the game. It's worrying that a professional player at a club like United can be so out of shape, with no discernible reason as to why this is the case.
Do you seriously believe that? We would field a player if he was so patently unfit?
He looks no bigger that Rooney IMO. The fundamental point has nothing to do with his conditioning it's to do with ability and what he brings to the team. Apart from fleeting glimpses of good form I don't see what value he brings.
I think a lack of fitness was a problem in previous seasons, when he seemed to always burn out at around the hour mark.
I agree that this doesn't seem to be a problem this season though. In his (relatively rare) good performances he's been lasting the pace as well as anyone on the pitch.
I think he ends up wandering around aimlessly more because he doesn't know where to position himself, rather than because he's too knackered to get there.
