Arsenal vs. Manchester United

Looked odds on for a draw before the lineups were announced. Fergies' lineup seems to suggest he thinks so as well. Not sure what Valencia has done to get dropped, but Fergie knows best so here's hoping Park has a good game.

Vidic out again. Evan and Brown in the middle. Thanks Rio.

Defensively Pogue.

He brings sod all going forward. Yes, yes he managed a goal, but come on 1) It was because Gibbs fecked up 2) Anyone would have scored that.

I'm still waiting (as usual) for someone to actually say what Park brings to the team in an attacking sense.

You really think that he didn't bring anything in an attacking sense to those Arsenal games last season, apart from that one goal? Really?

Waaaaaaah.

Team is what it is - now it's time for them to perform. Pass the pom poms around and lets get behind the lads.

Only thing I hope is boss is willing to make changes early if those that are on the pitch aren't performing. Come United - 3 points, we can do it.

Henry just called Rooney a nutter because he used to run around a lot

I don't feel for him as I'm pretty sure SAF laid the season out for him when he signed: first half of season, a long healthy run of games to get him acclimated to the team; second half of season, rotation like everyone else not named Rooney or Evra.

TBF Ronaldo made that goal. And if Almunia doesn't come out then 9.9 times out of 10 Park flubs the finish. But we can hope.

Him and that poor Arsenal defender who slipped.

Everyone has opinions. How should people react?

Whinge away in the Park thread. Or just do so after the match. This has been the team put out atm, whether you like it or not. Just get behind the team. If it doesn't work out, you can scream your prophecy off every rooftop. Just don't make the matchday thread all negative and about 1 player only.

Against mostly their reserve line-up two years ago. Amazing.

Has he impressed or not?
Even this season he has already played good games on the left, against WOlfsburg for example.
Could give you many more examples, but I am not getting into that.

You could say that pretty much about every RedCafe User. But it's a discussion forum, eh? If you're not allowed to voice your opinion on certain players without being told to have less clue of the game than the most successful football manager ever, there is no point in discussing at all. Anyway, I'm off watching the game.

Please, by all means voice whatever you want. I never said you should stop posting. I was just discussing with you my view in contrast to yours.
I didnt call you anything, neither a spastic nor a genius. I just pointed out that you need to see something before you judge it. The match has not even begun and you have given out your judgement which is why I said what I said.
Have a good one.

Exploits space, has a wonderful footballing brain. Takes defenders away from the striker, makes owenesque runs down the middle. Available most times in the box when the crosses come in.

His attacking game is vastly underrated by many here. He's not the best player in the world, but he helps stretch defenses. And with Arsenal, thats always a good option.

He didnt bring anything that any of the other wingers at the club couldnt have brought.

Oh, and still waiting for this list of his attacking attributes.

I think Park brings plenty to the attack. I'm just not sure he's THAT must better defensively then Valencia who in my opinion brings more.

Nani has looked very good the past couple of games. He's in form, he should get the nod.

Park and Evra's link up play to blast apart Arsenal's right flank

Bit worried about our defence, think we're lacking in leaders at the back and going to need to rely on Scholes, Fletcher and Carrick up Arshavin, Fabregas, Nasri and Rosicky's mazy runs.

Regarding formation, the only big game we've won in the last year (big game being against the top 4, and Champions League knockout stages) playing 442 was Inter at home.

If you extend that back to the beginning of 08/09 you get one more match - Chelsea at OT last January.

This.
Our CM is just not up for those games in a 4-4-2 formation, it's that easy.

So in a nutshell, does a lot of running into space.

Heap of shit that I'm afraid. That's a team not to lose, which isn't good enough. Valencia, giggs or the berb should be playing. feck knows what's happened to vidic but we will struggle to keep them out with that back four.

So often when people react like this to a line-up, we wind up eating humble pie, grateful that Fergie's in charge, rather than us.

Anyway I'm off 2 watch the game. Enjoy it lads.

Hopefully Park will score the winner and we can all go home happy :D

God forbid people having opinions on team selection pre match.

Ok, I challenge you to poddle back to the last four match threads and quote my pre match comments. You won't of course because you'd look stupid.

I wouldnt because 1. I'd rather watch united and 2. Its childish trawling through someone's posts trying to prove your point especially when its not a footballing topic. I still think the same about you and fair enough you dont agree.

Oh, I understand that completely. But surely Valencia brings more in terms of Attacking then Park, and it's debatable if Park is THAT much better defensively then Valencia who doesn't shun his defensive duties.

Also, you mention Nani, but I wonder if he will play on the left today.

Nani with Raphal behind him seems defensively suspect, whereas Park + Evra are very solid. I think it'll be Park + Raphael and Nani + Evra.

Park is playing on the left. So, effectively he's in competition with Nani alone. Comparing nani and park, park definitely put in the better shift.

Vidic setback in training according to Fergie...

What a crock our two centrebacks have turned into this year.

Not confident about that one.. I thought their Vermaelen was out.

I do hope so. Like most of us sometimes I'm right and sometimes wrong. I'm entitled to an opinion though. I just wish we'd go away to the top sides with a team to take the game to the opposition rather than playing to hold them off. We generally lose anyway.

Who is this Raphael chap?

Our record in big games of late, tied to formation (that I worked out in the shower just then because I was bored)

08/09

Liverpool away (433, loss)
Chelsea away (442, draw)
Arsenal away (442, loss)
Chelsea home (442, win)
Liverpool home (442, loss)
Arsenal home (433, win)

Inter away (451, draw)
Inter home (442, win)
Porto home (433, draw)
Porto away (4231, win)
Arsenal home (433, win)
Arsenal away (433, win)
Barcelona neutral (433, loss)

09/10

Arsenal home (433, win)
Liverpool away (442, loss)
Chelsea away (433, loss)

So, by formation

433: 4 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw
442: 2 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw
4231: 1 win
451: 1 draw

To me that's not a balanced defense though. Ideally you want Park to cover for Rafael who is our weakest link in the backfour and a player that teams will look to attack because he gets into some bad positions. Evra and Park on one side are quite strong defensively so I can see Arsenal completely focusing on our right where Nani as decent as he's been isn't exactly known for his defending.

Still, with 5 in midfield we should be ok. I expect we will go to 442 at some point and both Valencia and Berbatov will be brought on.

Having an opinion and delivering gloomy judgements before the game even begins probably instigated by the announcement of teamsheets are two absolutely different things. Its obvious you fail to see the difference so please dont let me stop you, carry on.

Sorry. I think it's a world class team selection and we will win 5-0.

You know what.

Bring it on. We dont fear Arsenal and this squad is good enough to win. So long as we attack as well as we defend we can certainly beat them on their own turf. Dont let Rooney become isolated.

Cmon United!
