Everton v Manchester United

There is no argument, Rafael provides the best support going forward from right back, and he did it a few times on Tuesday, but forgive him for not going forward as much as you would like as he was up against one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Rafael isn't immune from critism, why you think that I've no idea.

You're just annoyed that he isn't a tubby six foot irishman

 go drop fletcher again you twat

Very tough game this. A draw looks likely though I hope with Rooney's current form we can grab all three points. Going to be niggly affair.

Let's just hope Rooney keeps his cool with the inevitable Everton taunting. The best way to shut them up is to get a goal or two, which you wouldn't put past our Wayne at the moment.

I don't know why they boo him really. It wasn't like he left on real bad terms and he's said time & time again he's still an Everton supporter. Baffling really.

Look, obviously he didn't get forward as much I did say that was expected, I'll even go as far as to apologise that I ignored one movement he created a chance to Rooney, but in the end he did give away a ball that was somewhat costly and in my opinion that's not holding his own, I'm sorry if that's unsympathetic but it's true and it bloody annoyed me that was overlooked as well. Obviously if the "fat tubby Irishman" did the same thing you'd have superexcelled any Rafael rant I was capable of. People's comments about how he was improving game by game were nonsense, his second game back was probably his best and his game yesterday wasn't near that. That's just my distain for meaningless buzzwords.

I only critise him so harshy only because I Love Rafael so much.:smirk:

I still don't think he's guaranteed to play in the Everton, for all we know the reason why he was taken off may've been because he aggrevated something in the last few minutes after the mistake or he might just need a rest after the Ronaldiniho show. Decent enough excuse to give a run out to his brother I suppose.

And for the record, I don't think you have no idea! :)

Ummm. Baffling. Really?

They have every reason to hate him. If that was one of our players who left when he was 18 we would fecking hate him as well. It was inevitable that he would be sold at some point but I think most Everton fans are bitter that he said all that shite about once a blue, alway a blue and the next minute he was looking for the door.

The badge kissing didn't help either. (and to be honest that was just fecking silly from a player who has supported Everton as a youth)

So yeah. I love Rooney. I love United. But Everton supporters have every right to fecking hate him.

He would have been like alan shearer though. and probably less successfull seeing as everton wont get CL football.

Yeah it was inevitable he'd leave, especially for a bigger club where he had the chance to win trophies. They wind him up by verbally abusing him, he gives a bit back by kissing the United badge. But when he does that, they squeal like girls. A few taunts here and there is to be expected, but they give him murder everytime he's there and I just don't understand it. I know there's a lot of people out there who'll boo and scream abuse at somebody, but I just wouldn't bother.

Probably could've won an FA Cup though and would've had a spell in the Champion's League when they beat Liverpool to 4th place, he could've got them into the groups and easily bettered Shearer... hopefully he'll oneday surpass his goal tally.

Fabio's injured for this game, came off in the reserves.
Anderson and Diouf came off early too but Obertan wasn't rested ... I would've thought Obertan would be more needed since there's no Giggs, Nani and now Fabio.

Fletcher/Rooney left wing?

no way rooney left wing...

It's fairly likely Valencia and Park will start this, and probably Obertan will make the bench, I'm just unsure why Solskjaer rested The One and let Obertan play the full game, probably just that the Fabio injury forced his hands.

If Obertan didn't make the bench we'd have to improvise a leftwinger i.e. Rooney, Fletcher ... Evra with DeLaet at leftback

Cahil is injured, so that will hugely benefit us.

They have Fellaini and Cahill injured. We just have to win this. There is no question of a draw. Their strike force is still good with Saha and Yakubu firing on all cylinders. Their midfield is going to consist of Arteta, Pienaar, Osman and Rodwell.

Howard

Neville---Distin---Heitinga---Baines

Osman---Arteta---Rodwell---Pienaar

Yakubu

Saha

I just hope Brown and Evans can contain both the strikers. This is a match where Carrick will play a really important part defending for us. He has to start.

Anderson can play left wing it came to that. But, Park will be ahead of everyone that is an option on the left.

Hopefully Vida saying it himself he feels ready for Saturday will mean a start, especially since SAF seemed to think he should have been ready for Tuesday.

We won't need a 3 man midfield if that's the Everton line up. Can start with two up front.

The more i think about this the more i believe its likely we will go in 4-5-1 again, Rooneys been on fire lately playing as the lone striker and i cant remember the last away match we played with a 4-4-2 either certainly not against good opposition which Everton at goodison will always be.....plus the fact im not sure this is the type of game thats going to suit Berbatov anyway, its always an intense high tempo physical battle at goodison park with very little time on the ball, i just dont think given Berbatovs lack of football recently added to Rooneys great form and this 4-5-1 system thats really worked for us in such games especially away from home i cant see fergie changing it in what will be a very tough game, i dont think anyone should underestimate how tough this game will be.

Good news to hear Vidic saying he thinks hell be back for this one and if he is id throw him straight in there alongside Brown, if Everton as expected start Saha and Yakubu up front their both stong and very quick, neither Evans or Vidic are especially fast and i just think for this game the combined speed and airiel presence of a Brown/Vidic combination may be the best way to go.

Therfore Im going with:

.....................Van Der Sar

Rafael .......Brown.........Vidic........Evra

.........Fletcher....Carrick.....Scholes

Valencia.....................................Park
........................Rooney

Bench: Berbatov/Owen/Anderson/Obertan/Evans/Neville/Kuszack

Im going for a hard fought 2-1 win.

Thank feck for that. Been too bloody long since we had our first choice CB pair playing.

Amen to that, its remarkable really we have the best defensive record in the league bar Villa when you consider what we’ve had left of a 'defence' this season, Chelsea seemingly always get lorded for their fantastic backline with lord Terry and co apparently nyon impregnable yet our defence has been better than theirs this season without our best centre half’s and first choice keeper for three quarters of the campaign.

Indeed. With an ever changing and a defender lacking backline people seem to forget that little detail. Kudos to the lads who have done this well in absence of all our first choice backline except Evra.
Its something we've already come to see a lot of AFO. Doesnt surprise me anymore. The numbers and facts speak for themselves anyway.

Now I only hope this stability with the defenders lasts till the end of the season.
No more injuries and crazy suspensions please.

I dont think Fergie is going to go 4-5-1 for this game. If Fellaini and Cahill were playing then I think he would have played 4-5-1 but now I m sure it is going to be 4-4-2. Plus Berba and Owen have not played for a while now, so I pretty sure one of them is going to start along side Rooney.

I can see the following:

Rooney - Owen
Park - Fletcher - Carrick - Valencia
Evra - Evans - Brown - Rafael
VDS

How  it would be to see Rooney & Owen up front! I have to agree - with Fellaini & Cahill out -, I think SAF will use a 4-4-2-formation.

Their midfield is going to consist of Arteta, Pienaar, Osman and Rodwell.
Add Donovan to that list, I'm pretty sure Moyes will go 4-5-1 again. They will still be a bloody good side and very tough to beat these days, but this fixture is absolutely crucial in our title race. Come away with three points and our position suddenly is so much better, especially compared to last year's results.
My guess:

Van der Sar
Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra
Fletcher - Carrick
Valencia - Scholes - Park
Rooney

Saha
Pienaar - Arteta - Donovan
Osman - Rodwell
Baines - Distin - Heitinga - Neville
Howard

SAF press conference said that Vidic would be back in the squad for tomorrow. Didn't say he'd start though.

Also, when asked about Valencia - said that they don't know everything about him and so had planned on giving him a rest and Nani's form helped with that. The last two games he's come on off the bench and has been fantastic and would start (well we knew he would but, might also indicate more starts even once Nani comes back).

No other insights into game other than he thinks it's going to one hell of a fight and a result would be huge for us.

Well defence we might see Brown and Vidic get a look in, Fabio's likely to be out which might see DeLaet make the bench, Evans could probably do a job as a backup for Evra at leftback if needed though. Midfield it's likely Park & Valencia on the flanks, he could perhaps give a rest to Carrick or Fletcher with an eye on midweek. It's be interesting if Scholes starts again, usually he is prefered in away games, but the last away game he didn't play in was that Man City Carling Cup game. Anderson returns from the first time since they played that game, probably won't start but might play against West Ham. I think Gibson will start again at Wembley and is unlikely to be involved. Possible 4-4-2 with Berbatov or Owen upfront isn't completely out of the question. They did try that formation at Anfield and at home to City.

My guess: Van der Sar, Rafael, Brown, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Fletcher, Anderson, Park, Owen, Rooney

Subs: Kuszczak, Evans, Neville, Scholes, Carrick, Berbatov, Obertan

I'd imagine a similar matchsquad anyway.

Pretty much agree with all that, except Vidic may not be fit enough to start - I hope he is though.

Bench will likely be: Kuszczak; Brown; Anderson, Gibson, Obertan; Owen, Berbatov.

Maybe Obertan won't make the bench and Fábio will.. But I think we have enough with that back four, Brown, Fletcher, and Gibson for a slight re-shuffle if something goes wrong with a defender. I too think we'll get a hard-fought 1-2 win with Rooney scoring, and Berbatov coming on to score the winner in another well-timed Fergie substitution.

If Vidic isn't 100% fit, I'd probably make room for a second defender, even if he were on the bench a second defender might be needed, which probably mean losing Gibson or delaying Anderson's comeback. I'm just a person who prefers Gary Neville or Ritchie DeLaet over Michael Carrick in defence anyday. Main reason why Silvestre as well as O'Shea were on the Champion's League bench was because Vidic wasn't totally fit and that was a side which started with Hargreaves in midfield.

Yeah, I completely forgot Neville was likely fit to be honest.. He'll definitely make the bench even if Vidic is fit IMO. Gibson will likely keep his spot on the bench if Anderson isn't back.. So it's basically two from Gibson, Anderson, and Obertan for the midfield subs.

van der Sar

Rafael - Brown - Evans - Evra

Valencia - Fletcher - Carrick - Park

Berbatov - Rooney

--------------------------------
Kuszczak; Neville; Vidic; Scholes; Gibson; Obertan; Owen

Don't think the 4-5-1 will be necessary for this one. A Fletcher/Carrick central midfield is quality, and with Valencia and Park out wide, we can definitely afford to play Berbatov in this one. I think we'll get a comfortable 3-1 win, with Rooney, Berbatov, and Park to score.

I just can't see Obertan getting a spot on the bench after playing 90 minutes last night.

Diouf maybe since he got taken off early and scored.

TK, Anderson, Brown (or Vidic with brown starting), Neville, Owen, Diouf, Scholes for bench.

With a starting line up of :

VDS
Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Evra
Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher, Park
Berbatov, Rooney

Anderson can come in left for Park if needed. Fletch can play right if Valencia has to come off for any reason and either Anderson/Scholes coming on if something is needed in the middle.

Even though SAF has said Rooney was misused - he can still be thrown out left in a pinch bringing on Owen or Diouf if we are needing a goal

This game is on ESPN2 in HD over here :) Now should I watch it in bed (7:30am kick off) or crawl into the living room and watch it on the big box.
