He isn't playing as well as he can do recently but there's only Gibson to challenge him at the moment.

Bayern play a 2 in midfield, and 1 of their first choices is suspended.

If you dont think 2 of our midfielders can retain posession against 2 Bayern midfielders, one of which is not a usual starter, then you need your head checked.
 
Not wanting to be over-optimistic, but that Bayern line-up is as surprising as it gets. Altintop and Pranjic starting (!), that's very good news for us. We should really take this chance and score at least once, their back line is quite weak.

No, if that were the case, the same would apply to Giggsy! Its called deploying your squad sensibly so you can fight on multiple fronts .... we have another 2 very important games coming up straight after this one!

Park has been excellent through the centre though. doesn't look like that is where he'll be playing tonight. I would still say Valencia and Nani are the form two on the wings.

Does anybody think we might surprise Bayern and go 4-4-2 because Van Gaal knows Ferguson plays 4-5-1 in big games nowadays?
 
If Valencia had started and Nani was on the bench, people would have said Nani was being rested for Chelsea. I'm sure Chelsea is part of the reason Valencia is on the bench, but it could have gone either way. Nani was better in the last match lets keep him in for this one. And Valencia can have a big impact off the bench. Its great that we have both to choose from... Bayern fans will be seething with Robben not available.

There's a few that don't seem to understand Fergie's desire for dominance in midfieldl. They don't understand it's a more defensive line up which he uses in big games and that the battle is won and lost there. Maybe they will one day.

Probably playing Park to hassle someone, that's usually the reason. Also nice to have someone as fast as Valencia come off the bench if we need him. If we don't he'll be fresh for Chelsea.

where are you getting this from. they play 4-5-1. well, more like 4-4-1 l'pool like

Rooney is happy Robben is not playing whereas the other three understandably are not.

The fact Robben has missed out has delighted me. He's a slippery customer at the best of times. Great player.

Is Park taking care of Ribery ?
 
Does Rooney have a beard again? I've noticed the non-bearded Rooney performs much better than the bearded one. :(
 
I hope its not Fletch on the right. Wouldnt be surprised to see Park on the right (against Ribery), and Nani on the left
 
Feeling confident. A score draw is likeliest but I think we can even sneak a win.

Bayern Munich: Butt, Lahm, Van Buyten, Demichelis, Badstuber, Altintop, Van Bommel, Pranjic, Ribery, Muller, Olic. Subs: Rensing, Gorlitz, Klose, Contento, Alaba, Gomez, Tymoschuk.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, arrick, Scholes, Nani, Park, Rooney. Subs: Kuszczak, Berbatov, Giggs, Rafael Da Silva, onathan Evans, Valencia, Gibson.
 
The other good thing about Park/Nani is that they too can swap wings. That was one of the strengths of a Robben/Ribery being touted - so we have our own going into this game.

Though I do think it will end up being more of a matter of Park helping nullify Ribery.
