will be how they line up.

Is this MLS All-Stars side going to be any good?

The guy in the video says they will be

I think we need him to sign up to the Red Cafe -- and get his inputs and analysis post-United games. A lot to learn from -- how to analyse the game from an American Football's perspective.

So far Berba, Scholes, Giggs, Fletcher and Welbeck have shown good form in all games. Cleverly, Obertan and Diouf were not bad and improving.
Nani is another week away from being match fit.
Rafael, Smalling, Wes and Macheda are not on top of their game as of the moment.
I'd like to see

Not a patch on this

Well no, not really. That's what you'd expect when they're built 7 years apart. Reliant also doesn't have cage dancers and a tunnel that requires the opposing team to travel through a mob of hostile fans on to the field.

Edit: I just played right into Thoraximus's post.

:D

Jokes aside though, some of the stadiums are amazing in the US. I remember when I went to Arkansas (don't ask!) and we saw the university stadium, I was so impressed by it considering they are a college team. Am I right in thinking that the NFL is the top league and college football is next down? A bit like the championship in real football?

Funny you should mention College Football, I was just browsing through some of the ones that are renowned for their atmosphere and almost all of them are of 80k+ capacity and marvelous designs.

It is a step down. But teams don't move up and down so it's not quite analogous. So as a result everyone can support a college team (usually the university they attended) and a pro team. Pro teams tend to attract a lot of casual fans because families like to go to matches and rich corporate executives are always buying tickets. With college you get a lot more energy because a lot of the fans spend their lives there for multiple years and feel a connection. Also there's a lot of drunk students in general that get into the match for free since some student fees go towards athletics so they always amp up the energy.

As a result the largest football venues in the nation (with the exception of that gigasmic building in Dallas and FedEx Field in Washington) are all college stadiums.

That is absolute madness! America sure love their sports!

Wow, nice little lesson there, thank you! I wish football in this country was on the same scale in terms of universities, you'd follow your team etc. That'd be ace. I do enjoy going to Championship or lower games but I don't have any great affinity with the teams, whereas that way it would bolster the support alot.

Yeah it's pretty insane. My university's american football team is in the second tier of college football and we can still average around 8,000 for attendance. Our stadium seats roughly 11,000. Although college basketball with the indoor stadia and the closed roof is where you'll hear the loudest and most insanely passionate support, even though there's less attendance.

So United are playing the Houston AT&T All-Stars?

BTW, the OP has the incorrect date. It's 28 July (Western Hemisphere).

They are playing the MLS All-Stars in Houston. The All-Star game is sponsored by AT&T.

The MLS team will be All-Stars - means best players or close to best players in the league but, that doesn't mean they'll play well together. Like SAF said, we'll not have ever seen this team play - they don't play together normally obviously, we don't know how they'll line up, it will take some time to get to grips with the team on the field and how they are working.

For the All-Star team - well they are playing against United. Who knows if they'll gel and if one or two players might try overdo it on their own trying to impress instead of playing a team game.

It should be an interesting game and I for one can't wait - my first United game live.

that is fecking class though. could you imagine liverpool or city having to jog through a tunnel surrounded by united fans that want to tear them apart. psychological warfare at its finest.
