Plays for Santos in Brazil, couldn't find a thread on him. West Ham have been linked recently with a £12 million bid but a £28 million release clause seems to have put a halt on any potential move.

West Ham have confirmed that they have not given up hope of signing Brazilian wonderkid Neymar.

But Upton Park insiders described the move as “complicated” because of third-party owners.

Santos forward Neymar, 18, is 40 per cent owned by an investment group, with a £28.4million release clause.

In the wake of the Carlos Tevez affair, West Ham would need to buy the player outright to comply with stricter third-party rules.

West Ham denied that the plan is to allow Chelsea to sign him and loan him out for one season to acclimatise to Premier League football, but it is possible that the Hammers will increase their £12m bid.

He's only 18 and scored 27 goals in 29 appearances this season. We were loosely linked with him when he was 15. His form for his club saw serious pressure on Dunga to take him to the World Cup, he didn't and criticised further for not even putting him on the reserve list.

A lot of those goals were due to poor defensive positioning to spring the offside but gives you a good picture of what he can do. #13 (5:54) and #16 (7:13) are sublime finishes. It's a shame we are overloaded with strikers, this lad has the makings of a real star. He's got bags of confidence, one of his U-17 goals he was clean through and rounded the keeper but sent the ball round the other side of him, was quick enough to nip round the other way and collect again before the rushing defender got there.

I don't think he'll leave this summer many clubs will be put off by the release clause. Unless there's some sort of loop hole with the sponsor ownership.

Anybody know any more about him?

Fernando Duarte on the guardian podcast rates him highly. But City have first option on all Santos players which includes Ganso and Neymar as part of the Robinho loan.

Looks like it's true.

Santos say Manchester City have first refusal on Neymar

Santos have denied that they have held talks with Chelsea about the Brazilian’s highly-talented forward, Neymar. On Friday, the O Globo newspaper reported that Chelsea might be willing to offer around US$35 million (£23 million) for the 18-year-old. Santos, though, refuted this and added that they would only consider offers of around US$47 million (£31 million). The Brazilians also said that Manchester City would be given first refusal of signing Neymar. This is because of a clause written in to the contract that took Robinho back to Santos giving the English club a first option on the youngster. City have until 4th August to decide on whether they wish to act on the option. Neymar is having a fabulous season at Santos and was instrumental in taking poor old Remo to the cleaners earlier this week.

There's talk of a Neymar plus £10 million swap deal for Robinho on bluemoon. Santos cannot afford to pay for Robinho outright.

28 mill quid for an 18 yr old is ridiculous.

Not always ;)

Offers are coming in for Neymar but Santos are keen to keep him

Santos have turned down an official bid from Chelsea for the highly-coveted, Neymar. The Brazilian club did not reveal the exact offer but it is thought to be in the region of €20 million (£16.8 million). The bid for the 18-year-old came on Tuesday morning but Santos say that they will not listen to offers that fall below their valuation of the player, which is a staggering €35 million (£29.7 million).

Chelsea wont go any higher than that. Interesting to see who they sign. They seem to be giving out the same signals as us. I expect only the 1 or 2 signings at the Bridge this year.

I'd be surprised if Chelsea made just one solitary bid and stopped there.

Or even £30m, depending which sources you listen to.

Still, with Neymar and Ramires signed, they've got some good young talent there.

Have seen him play quite a bit, and I am surprised that none of the big clubs have seriously tried to sign him. About time. Obviously United won't see value in him.

Santos warn Chelsea over Brazil starlet Neymar - Transfers - ESPN Soccernet

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has warned Chelsea they will have to pay Neymar's R$ 80 million (£28.75 million) release fee if they are to sign him.

• Chelsea weighing up new Neymar bid

Neymar, 18, is considered one of the brightest young talents in Brazilian football and he opened his account for the national team in their 2-0 victory over USA this week.

Chelsea have already seen a bid rejected for Neymar, but it is reported that their chief scout, Michael Emenalo, was in New Jersey alongside agent Pini Zahavi to see his Brazil debut.

Santos have already indicated that they would not be willing to part with Neymar for anything less than his release clause, and the club's president has reiterated that stance. "The clause is there," he told the Brazilian press. "If they pay it, they can take him."

Nonetheless, the Daily Telegraph says Chelsea, who have been tracking the player for two years, are confident of tying up a deal for between £20 million and £25 million in the near future. However, the Daily Mail reports that Santos are considering reporting Chelsea to FIFA for tapping up the player.

Oh, I so hope that Chelsea sign him - a striker that they don't really need, and could fail in England., when they need a midfielder and a defender badly.

He's very capable on the wing, meaning Malouda could fall back to midfield if need be, to go along with four other centre mids fully capable of playing any game, and Anelka/Drogba are both getting on a bit...and this doesn't rule out them signing anyone else. Plus it'd make your theory that Abrahmovic has tightened the purse strings with £35m+ spent on two young Brazilians, with the possibility of David Luiz following.

Not something I'd expect many to be cheering truth be told!

They've released three players on high wages in Deco, Ballack and Carvalho and have also received £8m for one of them, so spending £20m on a youngster that will probably be on £40k a week at most will balance their books just fine. So far they've only spent £6m on Benayoun this season. I never said they weren't going to spend any more money, just said that I don't expect them to go into transfer frenzy like they used to, or spend heavily on a single player - so heavily that United couldn't match it.

Signing Neymar could mean that they're going to get neither Luiz nor Ramires which would be fine by me because they need both of them more than they need Neymar. But thinking about it, they need Neymar as well as their front line is short and old - Anelka and Drogba won't be at this level for much longer.

Neymar is special. A superstar in the making.

I don't rate David Luiz as highly as most though; but I suppose he is still young and learning.

Has the Ramires transfer actually gone through? The Neymar move is still just rumours and I think the Luiz link is just media fueled bs tbh.

Wasn't having a go at you, but wouldn't you be surprised if they went out and spent £35m+ on Neymar and Ramires? I would. That's kind of the point, we were wondering how much he'd tightened the purse strings - if this went through it'd be a lot less than I thought. I'd agree that they're not going to spend big like they did under Ranieri/Mourinho initially, but that's because they don't need that major investment in the short-term either. Three young, talented, versatile Brazilians in each position would go a long way.

Somewhat surprised they'd go for Neymar ahead of Ganso because out of all the English teams I'd say Chelsea's be the one Ganso could make it in, but then Neymar's versatility and Chelsea's tendency to rotate between two and three up top was probably one of the key factors.

I thought the Ramires move seemed pretty dead on, likely to go through soon. I'd agree the other two are both just rumours currently - with more weight to the Neymar link, it seems - but really we can't no about any of them. Just saying if they were to go through they'd be very sensible moves all-round with Neymar able to play in a two or a three, up top or on the wing, Ramires able to play in a two or a three in the centre, and David Luiz able to play in the middle or cover at left back, and they're all very young.

Ramires is all agreed, but he's not done his medical yet. Neymar seems pretty solid, but nothing announced officially yet. Luiz is a strong rumour, but just a rumour for now.

Anybody know any more about him?

He's a big sensation in Brazil, still very young and needs to learn more about team play (like Cristiano Ronaldo in his early days with us)

If he keeps doing good (I hope he doesn't learn too much of Robinho) he will be the next big thing of brazilian football. I personally prefer Ganso, another Santos player.
