Valencia CF v Manchester United

Fletch: Kiko! Well done on the goal, fecking well done!

this is better than a win against rangers and a draw against valencia (which i wouldve been very happy with)..
taking a point off valencia and getting 4 from 6

Really proud of the team! Under strength and out of form and pulled of a great 2nd half performance.

Defense was outstanding. Nani gets a lot of criticism here for being "frustrating" and poor at his crossing but even on a poor day he is by far our most dangerous player. Was great on the right today especially at the end. And absolutely vital block on mata.

He's our most important player right now.

Great performances from Rio Rafael and Vidic as well.

...yet lost the faith at the half-time whistle. Odds and evens, eh?

No not really. I kept with my prediction, during and after HT. Fact is we were dire. . .but a prediction is a prediction.

Screw performance, really really important 3pts gained and hardest game out of the way, hopefully we don't screw up the supposedly "easier" ones.

We weren't dire at all. I thought it was almost the classic old skool away in Europe performance: contain and stick it in the net when you get a chance. To have matched valencias possession was very good.

Yeah, I'd take JOS any time. One of my favourite players and is very experienced with over 60 CL games under his belt.

JOS bashers are basically FM merchants who only understand how to play fantasy football on a PC. And that includes vastly over rating the capability of a talented but still very raw Rafael.

Yes we were all stupid FM merchants to want Rafael to play ;)

I agree. Nothing to be ashamed of. Away European games in Spain will never be easy.

However we rode our luck a few times, they put in some good crosses and narrowly missed the final touch. But a solid defensive performance nontheless, best resiliant performance of the season.

We ought to give ourselves a break now and then. I've missed four games due to being on holiday recently but didn't we have four players out there tonight who have hardly kicked a ball for months?

I remember when we were Euro novices and the likes of Juventus would do to us what we did to Valencia and it was all kudos to Juventus for showing their experience and nous.

We do exactly the same thing and we're lucky or undeserving.

There was no controversy about tonight's result, the match was played fairly and we won.

Bloody great result.

So does anyone else think that Valencia were shit?

Just got back. Shall post my views tomorrow, I have some photos as well. Met loads of United fans, but none admitted to being a caftard.

Valencia were the better team overall, we were poor in general, we gave the ball away far too much. Berbatov worked his balls off, but he's not a good option as a lone striker.

Turnout was especially poor, I don't know why it was because it's the end of the month and nobody has any money, or because it was because of the general strike, but around 20% of the seats had nobody in them, in a 55,000 seat stadium. Very odd!

United support in general was decent enough from their top corner, but they didn't go into full voice until after we scored, then came the "we're going to Wembley" chants. I had a laugh, because on that performance we are going nowhere.

The commentators here put it down to the general strike. Presumably, Valencia must have a lot of OOTers who just couldn't get there or something.

Valencia have only averaged 42,000 in attendance so far this season. Yeah, it's only two games, but it's more than their 40k last year.

We were both shit. That was mainly down to tactics, as both managers set up too negatively and both sides were more dangerous with 2 strikers up front as thats how both sides have been better this season.

Valencia were missing their best player though.

Some photos from last night. Sorry, no in-game stuff, as I was too busy watching it, so just some shots I messed around with before kick-off and at half time. I tried to get some of the United away support so that maybe a caftard could say "hey, I'm in that", but they were in so much darkness that it was difficult to get steady shots at long zoom. Maybe one or two of you appear here though?

Anyway, pointless as they are....

Yeah but I never felt we got out of second gear, where as it felt they were trying their best, but it was just shite.

We both had more gears to go up to, and had either side set up with 2 up front or had their injured players available we might have seen them.

Both managers were too cautious.
