MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

All this "ambition" thing is ridiculous

It is, I don't buy it at all. It's something that shouldn't effect him, especially when he hasn't been performing. What would of changed in those few months between him having the best season goals wise, coming out saying he will stay here forever, then rejecting the contract? Ambition wouldn't even fit into this timeline.

Why would the ambition thing be ridiculous, you have countless threads on this forum over the past 18 months bemoaning the fact that we don't invest enough with the Ronaldo funds/not keeping Tevez and aren't currently good enough to compete. Whys it hard to believe a footballer, who isn't exactly sensationally intelligent himself outside of his game on the pitch, thinking the same kneejerk reactions when he sees the team collapse when he gets injured?

What an absolute cnut making a statement on a matchday. And unless he comes out and says "I'm fecking off for the money" he'll be lying. And whatsmore, if he says he'll continue to give it his all hes lying too because he's not been doing that since august:.

And if he uses squad investment as an excuse I'll put my foot through the tv.

I have never said this before but I agree with you, swearing and all

It's ridiculous. He said in March that he was happy at the Club and wanted a life contract. We've actually strengthened from last season. Money is the only factor here.

martynziegler Wayne Rooney statement expected later. Will he be outspoken or try to climb back to some moral high(er) ground - at ground zero right now

And a bit of Kai now

Daddy's agent Paul Stretford is here. I don't like him very much. As a United baby, I'd like to stick his negotiations up his Stretford End.

Despite recent events, Rio and daddy's new footy academy the "Ferdinand And Rooney Trust" is unaffected. F.A.R.T will launch in early 2011.

Daddy is preparing a statement for later today. Have strongly advised him against using the phrase "Scottish bastard".

I'll miss Kai Wayne more than Rooney

Because of the points I mentioned. The timeline. It doesn't make sense at all for him to become disillusioned with the club, months after publically saying he will end his career here, only to go ahead and reject our contract before the transfer window had even finished? So, we lost Tevez and Ronaldo, but he didn't become worried about our ambitions then, he decided to wait for his best season, then make a statement saying he loves the club, then shortly afterward, all of this prolonged worry kicks in?

Doesn't make any sense to me. I could be proved wrong, but if you are looking for my reasons, there it is.

Mancini has commented on the Rooney affair, and he's another who's come out and stated that he thinks he'll stay.

Strange that:confused:

He's a bit thick though Hectic, with Stretford whispering in his ear it wouldn't have taken that long. But in saying this I think it has flip all to do with the ambitions of the team, that is how his people will paint it no doubt but didn't Rooney lose a substantial amount of Money recently? I'm sure Stretford would know all about this.

Could be that he's protecting himself and the club, had they made some sort of verbal agreement with Wayne, or that he simply believes he will stay here.

Either way, it didn't surprise me. It would of been far more surprising had City commented on the situation with any hint that they were interested.

I think it's a given that they are interested, they just don't need to confirm that right now.

nickcoppack For those asking, the rumoured Rooney statement later today will come from his agent/advisors, not through the club.

Not really. He hasn't actually denied interest. He obviously feels it it would be wrong to say he's interested until Rooney has had his say at least.

"He is a United player. It's not correct to speak about that situation.

I have respect for him, for Ferguson, for United. I want to speak only about my players."

Yeah March, before the team collapsed in games they SHOULD BE ABLE to win without him and effectively ended their season, and before he had world cup hanging out with Cashley, Terry and Lamps all talking about shit, and then seeing Man Utd not spending shit in July/2 weeks of August.

Meh, he's not going to come out and say "I just wanted more money than I knew Man Utd would ever be able to offer so that's why I never even bothered to open discussions over terms with them"

The only thing I would say (and I'm just playing devil's advocate here because I don't truly believe that stuff either - I think it's about money) is that he gave Fergie the benefit of the doubt after Ronnie and Tevez left to see what would happen and what happened is that we fell short last season and this was particularly apparent when we had to do without Rooney towards the end of the season.

Having watched us do very little in this summer's window, then, with the transfer window almost closed, he decided he'd had enough of "carrying the team".

The problem I have with this is that only a dick would question Fergie's judgement when it comes to a squad capable of winning silverware.

The one thing that did seem a bit odd in Fergie's MUTV interview yesterday was when he went on that little rant about "You can't win everything every year, it's impossible but what we have here is the management, the training facilities etc etc to get things on the right track and correct whatever went wrong."

It seemed a little out of place as though he was addressing something that Rooney had said to him and it was a message to him.

Dunno. Going to be interesting to hear what Rooney has to mumble.

Read a load of stuff about him losing money left right and center, his gambling spiraling out of control and the restraint of a set allocation each month.

It could be as much rubbish as anything else, but to me money as a motivation sounds far more plausible over Wayne's doubt over our ambition.

What the feck is this lad playing at? Has he had a complete and utter mental breakdown in the space of a few weeks? What a mega brain fart this actually is. It might even go down as the biggest brain fart in footballing history.

He is an important player for United and I think he will stay," added Mancini. "I have respect for him, for Ferguson, for United. I want to speak only about my players."

How about putting the whole quote in.

But we bought Chicharito, precisely to replace Rooney when he can not play.

Yeah, I thought that was a little odd, he mentioned our winning history. However, I interpreted that as an attempt to show Wayne what he is leaving, the history of the club, and what he might miss out on if he is joining a club like City. Also, it shows that this is a lasting club, who have seen many players come and go, but the constant remains us, and our success over the years.

what else could he say... yeah... we have an agreement with him and yeah... we tapped up Rooney without talking to United first?

Smartarse

Pressed on whether he would be keen to sign the striker, Mancini added: "He is a United player. It's not correct to speak about that situation.

"I have respect for him, for Ferguson, for United. I want to speak only about my players.

"It's not my problem. I'm City manager. I have a lot of problems with my players. It's important for me to focus on tomorrow's game.

Exactly, what on earth did people expect him to come out with today? There's no advantage for making anything public from Cities side, if they do have any involvement with Wayne.

Many a truer word spoken in jest...if you were jesting that is. I've had a feeling for a while now that he is mentally fragile.Leaving Utd could see him going completely off the rails. If he thinks he'll find another club and manager who are going to be as paternalistic as Utd and SAF have been he's dreaming. Any transgressions at ,say, City for example and the manager won't hesitate to leave him out. After all they can literally spalsh the cash somewhere else

Yip it is his funeral

I meant every word mate, there is no other way I can describe this. He's already a millionaire, Sir Alex is the best manager in the world, we're one of if not the greatest and most prestigious club in world football, he's close to his home. If it is actually about money for him, then actually I pity him.

Saying this, I'd play for United even if I had to pay them! Which I probably would have too.

Like hell, Inter, Milan, Bayern. All the major players will have a stab at getting him to the club. Hell, even Barcelona would probably try and get him knowing how they love to collect world stars.

It'd also drive the price up that City would offer.

If it was the club sending out a message to potential suitors about the player's availability, your point about bidding war would be totally on the money. However, that's not the case.

It's Rooney who wants out, and this weakens United's position significantly. If he isn't sold in January, he can buy out his contract in the summer for £5m and sign as a free agent for the club of his choosing with the sign in bonus that'll more than make up for it.

Under the circumstances, United can only hope to get as much as possible for him and ship him out as far away as possible but it'll be the player who'll decide the destination.

It will be something like fullfilling his ambitions somewhere else after giving tremendous services to the club, that he respects the club, that he has been a great servant for the club, but time for move, bla bla bla

Ah but we can't compare ourselves with pro footballers. Fans will always say that but the reality is a bit more complex
