MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

TheMirror saying it may just be a holding statement

i.e "Discussions ongoing, no further comment until ...."

We'll find out in 6 minutes

What can I do in 6 minutes.....

*zip*

There has to be something going on if its a holding statement, I'm not a lawyer but whats the difficulty in telling him he is on the transfer market. Surely you really only need lawyers when the deal is done

Are they figuring out whether his conduct amounts to a transfer request - legally - before they list him? I guess he'd be due a percentage as a 'loyalty' bonus.

Wayne Rooney will enable Manchester City to 'win everything' says Carlos Tevez
Sheikh Mansour has personally asked Carlos Tévez whether he thinks Manchester City should sign Wayne Rooney with the striker fuelling the club owner’s appetite to pursue the audacious transfer by telling him: “with Wayne we will win everything”.
City are facing strong competition from Chelsea to sign the England striker who appears set to stay in the Premier League when he leaves Manchester United this January rather than consider a move abroad to Real Madrid.

Chelsea will make a lower bid than City but are convinced, according to sources, that they are ahead in the running right now despite the assumption that Rooney wants to remain in the north-west

The Premier League champions believe that Sir Alex Ferguson would rather sell to them, even though they will bid only around £20 million, than City, who are expected to offer £35-40 million, and that the United manager has the authority to do the deal.

I do think he will end up at City, I also think we will take them for mugs along the way.

City: "Mr Ferguson, £35m for Rooney, how about it?"

United: "No thank you. We have a bid we're going to accept for £25m from Chelsea."

City: "Umm, that appears to be less than we are offering?"

United: "Correct. We don't have any interest in selling to you."

City: "I don't understand? We are offering you money! Lots of Money!"

United: "No thanks"

City: "WHAT?! £50m?!"

United: "We are not going to sell to you, go away, I'm trying to keep this line clear, Mr Abraomivic is trying to get through"

City: "£70m?!"

United: "Go. Away."

City: "£100m?!"

United "He's in a a car on his way over to you. Thanks very much"

Cook: "This obviously prooves we are the massiveist club in Manchester, we showed our strenght in this market and that is why Rooney wanted to join us."

I dont think that telling them he wont be signing his new contract would constitute a transfer request.

All he's effectively done is say that he wont sign anything that extends his contract beyond the date that it should formally end.

Unless he asks specifically to be released from the current contract United have to pay him his 15%

Manchester United released the following statement after a day of meetings between chief executive David Gill, Sir Alex Ferguson and representatives of Wayne Rooney:

“We are aware that there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment, but there are no developments of note to report today.

“I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place today, including with the player's representative. The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future. In the meantime, fans are asked to be patient.”

Oh what was the point in releasing a fecking statement to say that.

I mean honestly.

"I'm releasing a statement to say i have nothing to say on the matter for now..."

So no new developments then!

A simple "he'll be sold in January and won't play in any Premier League game until then" would be enough for me.

Although it would feel good, that would be a very foolish thing to do by Sir Alex and the management.

The best thing would be for us to pretend everything is patched up, then we sell in January, ensuring we get a reasonable amount of money.

I hope the discussions with his agent aren't us caving into his financial demands...That'd be disgusting and an act of desparation. If that's the case then the tail is well and truly wagging the dog.
