MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

I am sure all can be forgotten, sorry I wanted the best for the club so that commitment can be made for future investments, I could have never left, love this club...

 Even if he says that, he'll still get the shit ripped out of him. It'd be more disruptive for him to stay, imo.

why do you think his people chose this time to leak all this?

Why not just sign a contract with Real in the summer?

The club have known about it for two months, and Fergie himself said that after saturday (fans chanting for him to come on when it went to 2-2), he felt the topic needed to come out. Whether that's true I don't know, because the issue was out in the papers already and everyone was talking about it, but the club would never have let it drag on for that long.

As to why they leaked it now, I have no idea. Maybe, in fact, Fergie told him that he would be telling the press what'd been going on (for the reasons I mentioned previously), at the champions league press conference, and Rooney's team decided to leak stories that painted a breakdown in their relationship as the reason for his leaving. That didn't work, so they changed tack. Either way, Fergie says he hasn't even been willing to discuss terms for two months - not exactly negotiating. Now he's come out with a statement calling into question Fergie, his teammates, and the club's capabilities in general. Again - not shrewd negotiating, alienating yourself from the fanbase, the team and the manager.

You expect him to get a bumper deal after all that? Not a chance, I would hate for our club to pretty much beg someone to stay like that after what's been said. He goes, no player is worth that.

Ronaldo - who even we acknowledged was a bit of a twat whilst he was here - never provoked such a response from Fergie as we got the other day, the two were on great terms until the end. This is completely different.

What is this nonesense about us wanting to talk to Rooney's agent again? I hope they still aren't trying to "beg" him to stay. He can feck off, he was never as special a player as the media used to paint.

Agree. Except I think he has the talent to be.

I've only been glancing over this thread in the last few days but I must say I'm delighted to see that the general mood/theme is the same. No man is bigger than the club and if you look at it, some have pointed to it already, this could be a similar situation to the Keane saga. Some of the younger lads now could kick on and start to dominate games and become alot more influential.

United and SAF were finished when Sparky left. Ince. Cantona. Schmeichel. Beckham. Keane. Ruud. Tevez. Ronaldo. Now Rooney. The list is endless but each and every time United went on to bigger and better things. Will it be the same when himself leaves? Who knows but as long as SAF is still here, we're in safe hands.

im not sure if the fans and more importantly the other players could accept Rooney coming back. After he has essentially publically said that he doesnt think they are good enough, are any of them really going to welcome him back with open arms?

Then there is the fans reception. I just think his bridges are well and truly burnt at this stage, and it would take a piece of PR genius to salvage his Man Utd career now.

Hang on, so he may be u-turning. Hummmm, I may have to take my apology back then.

Its not jus that United went on despite losing quality players, EVERYTIME someone else stepped up. And I am sure someone will step up or come in after Rooney. And we will keep that very high level and go for trophies.

And its good to see that Fergie is backed by almost everyone

Even if he wants to sign a new contract, I would like the club to reject that offer. He has treated everyone(club, fans, manager) like shit. He is a world class player when fit, but I don't want characters like his in our club.

this sort of tactics would significanlty weaken his postion in negotations...why would he do it then.

The U turn which is reported in the press has more to do with a lack of intrest in his service rather than enything else.

Howard Kendall: Wayne Rooney will leave Manchester for a fresh start - not to win trophies

LIKE everyone else in football I’ve been glued to the coverage of the ongoing Wayne Rooney saga.

My first thought was that it must be very hard for Sir Alex Ferguson to swallow. There is a pride about Manchester United that will have him, and fans bridling at the suggestion they can no longer match Rooney’s ambitions.

Alex is a manager with a great reputation for nurturing young talents like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, so this fall out will perplex him. But I don’t think Rooney wants out to win trophies elsewhere.

I believe he wants a clean break in his private life, and a break from the British national press. I expect him to go abroad.

Protest outside Wayne Rooney's Cheshire home

Protesters gathered outside Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's Cheshire home, following an announcement he wants to leave the club.

Police were called to the footballer's £4.5m mansion in Prestbury at 2030 BST on Wednesday, after reports up to 30 people were outside.

The group dispersed and no offences were committed, a spokesman said.

BBC Website

If he does come out again at Old Trafford, I'd love to be there to see what sort of reception he gets.

according to luciano moggi who in his prime was an expert at what happens behind the scenes in football, rooney will stay. Moggi says in his opinion this is all a ploy from the player in order to get a better deal.

Well, Rooneys statement says the opposite.

Nah... its not possible to come back. He's burnt his bridges. And very quickly at that.
I don't think anyone has ever pushed the boat out this much -- Rio, Keano or even Becks when it came to negotiating their contracts.

There must be a final statement today right? To put this saga to bed before the important game on sunday...can't let this drag on any longer.

BOOOOONEY ^^

I think he will get the treatment that Ronaldo got, if not worse cos' he is english.

eh ? Ronaldo came back against Villereal/Valencia

He got massive cheers from the crowd

Rooney , as i said before, has gone to place of no return. Disrespected the fans, the manager, implied all the players around him are not good enough.

I seriously hope we don't cave in to his wage demands.

I have a feeling he'll stay.

At the same time I really don't think he has the mentallity to be able to handle the boo's and stick he's gonna get for us. It'll take a lot of goals and a lot of great performances before they even begin to stop.
