To be fair the circumstances of his signing are more or less a microcosm of all the controversy currently surrounding not only the club, but the money being thrown around in football.

And it was a strange match to get thrown on in. The Hargo return that wasn't, courtesy of a feverish delusion on SAF's part; that same fever coupled with Scholes being a booking away from a suspension requiring a patchwork midfield pairing ahead of which JSP of all people was spotted pointing space out to his youngster teammates in an attempt to organize some semblance of attack. Seventy thousand plus in the stadium representing hundreds of millions of pounds and billions of global viewers armed with billions of eager keyboards and opinions. All that money, again, coming back to you: a seven million pound signing lambasted in the press - and not just lambasted, but lambasted with good reason. And as if that weren't enough pressure, to top it all off, there's really only two outcomes here: either he comes good, or his name goes down forevermore in footballing lore, and not in a good way.

Best of luck, Bebe.

That has to be one of the most depressing displays I have seen from a footballer.

He looked spent after 50 minutes, couldn't win a header and I counted only one cross that was not completely overhit.

He needs serious training and fitness work, and to be honest should not have been given 85 minutes today after playing on Wednesday - I do not think his fitness levels are there yet. Impact sub for the time being, as his pace can hurt tired defences.

Why on earth did Ferg not put Obertan out on the wing and let Bebe play up front as intended when he came in? Would have saved the team from some really woeful crosses.

Because he knows better than you:confused:

Bebe was the natural sub to go on the wing and I doubt he would have been a better foil for Hernandez than Obertan given the latter's performance against Bursa

Gotta think, those in the stretty must have been worried in the second half... his crossing was horrible. Still we've seen him against bursaspor when he whipped in a few decent crosses. The whole team was shocking today though to be fair.

That's an absurd claim. Surely you can see Bebe is light years behind what Ronaldo and Nani when they were signed.
He might be behind them when it comes to the finer points, regarding close control of the ball/techique and such, but he's right up there with the best if you add in strength, speed, courage and determination. He's a fighter that lad and that's one of the important things that Fergie likes all United players to have within them.

I wasn't:lol: Knew they'd be soaring off down the east lancs road. He's a young, raw and very inexperienced player, If he's not given game time then he's never going to have the chance to learn.....some playing time in the reserves where the spotlight is off him will do him good

I wouldn't have a problem with Bebe if he was on a free. I just can't quite get my head around paying £8million for a nobody player someone so raw who was available for next to nothing a few weeks earlier.
There is something not right about this transfer.

Someone got some extra money? If so, who cares.. It's football and wouldnt be the first time and he seems a talent, does he not?

Fair play to the lad, he is trying to make it work but no way is he a United player.
We payed a stupid price for him. His agent of 2 weeks made a mug out of us. £8 freakin million for a 3rd division Portugese unknown who looks the part but nothing else.

So 4 games is enough to tell you that he's not United quality? He didn't look all that terrible in the other matches. Knee jerking of the highest order in this thread and the matchday thread from some. The kid needs a lot more formal coaching before we can decide if he's United quality or not.

I only needed 5 minutes to come to the same conclusion as many are on the back of that display. His story probably befits an award winning Hollywood movie but he is cack

Whilst I agree that he must be given a chance, there's only so much coaching can do. His control of a football is atrocious and I'm thinking more Bellion than anybody.....

I'm reminded of the adage "you can't polish a turd".

So is everyone ignoring the fact that he's put in some quite good crosses in other matches? The first time he played people were talking about his crossing being quite good despite no one getting on the end of them. Give the guy some time. He's had 2 good performances and one wank one. Quit being spastics. Sit down and take a prozac or something.

Evra was abysmal his first few months at United and he made a much smaller jump than Bebe. He still can't cross half the time either.

Totally agree!

Loved his touch on one of the controls he did on a long ball over the top to him on the right side... Brought the ball delightfully down!

And above all, love the way he gets positioned to be positive with the ball - he's quick to make space in front of him...

Yeah, he deserves credit for continuing to make himself available for the ball and looking to make things happen even after he'd smashed his fourth or fifth cross out of the stadium.

Bearing in mind his background, the controversy over his move and the unfair pounding he's already taken in the press, he showed real courage by not going into his shell and letting the game pass him by. Wasn't he the only player go test the keeper with a shot on target?

Re crossing, he put in some cracking crosses in his first reserve game but he seems to like hitting them incredibly hard, which means there's zero margin for error. Hopefully he'll take a bit of pace off them from now on.

It's not knee jerking mate

I realise the high fee paid is not his problem, but as fans we expect better for 7/8 Million. I would also hope there are better alternatives in the reserves if Bebe needs more time to work on his game.

Van Der Vaart cost 8 Million.

Did he though? For Spurs, yeah sure. Would Real have sold him to us for 8, no chance. Add on his wages for the duration his contract and it runs above 8million.

Bebe was 8ish million up front, with much smaller wages. If it works it's a bargain, if it fails we moan but as far as the club is concerned we make some money back from any sale and it minimises losses.

I don't think Bebe is good enough right now...Fergie knows this himself, but putting him in match situations is the only way to learn about the kid and his heart.

Yesterday it was clear the occasion got to him, big crowd at home, coming on to replace Hargo, and wanting to impress meant he started pressing, and simply belted every single cross.

Funny thing was...the one good cross he put in, was off his wrong foot. It really is amazing we paid whatever it was, for what is at the moment an exceptional athlete. I'm sure come the end of the season he will have improved in leaps and bounds from where he is atm.

None of this would have been an issue, if not the injury crisis we are facing, ideally Fergie wouldn't have him anywhere near the 1st team atm. But as others have said, he kept trying again and again, and tried to get involved..and that kind of bravery and heart is something you can't teach.

He won't be of much use to us in the short term, but I'm not writing him off just yet....

It was a bad performance from Bebe in regards to his crossing, but saying that he looked very lively. Hopefully he can make it here.

They clearly think bebe has potential as he's getting games. Tosic cost a similar amount and got no where near the first team.

My stream was shit yesterday but his crossing didnt look great. Then again his crossing was ok/good in the other games he played.

I like him - he's strong, fast and looks to get involved. The right ingredients are there, it may just take a while to get things smoothed off. Far too many people are willing to make themselves look silly by writing him off after 3 games.

I don't like the way that people in the media - and fans of other clubs - sneer at him for once being homeless. Like it was his fault. As an old friend and mentor once said to me: "Many are the roads to cardboard city." But there aren't too many out of it. Bebe's found one and I hope he shoves it back down their throats.

A lot of knee jerk criticism here - give the lad a chance FFS. He was one of our best player in the CC the other day.

The problem is that he has been put in the first team way ahead of schedule due to injuries - from what I have seen he has all the attributes to be a top player, 1 year with Fergie will sort him out.

Looked good in the highlights MOTD showed

He did? He was awful - again, he looked spent after 50 minutes. I think the two major issues are fitness and coaching. He doesn't appear fit enough to play twice in a week, which is fine as he never has been used to it, but also, his overall display was very very poor.

I think this brings everyone back down to earth after midweek - he should be used as an impact sub to stretch the game when the defences are tired.

From what I have seen of him so far he seems to have a problem hitting the ball cleanly. That bothers me a bit. The pace and strength is there obviously, but I wonder if he lacks basic footballing skills.

Will be interesting to see him in the future though, and we have to give him time.

In their highlights they showed none of his crosses, so I was pleased it was not shown up. But in the analysis afterwards they unfortunately showed his worst one. Probably one of the most over hit crosses I have ever seen in my life....... ever.

He has impressed me in his previous 2 outings so I am not overly worried. But yesterday I don’t think I have ever seen such an incomplete footballer play for our club. Really hope it was down to nerves and just one of those days (In fact I am sure that is all it was). I don’t think even the likes of Djemba or Bellion ever looked as shit when compared to yesterday’s outings.

Until yesterday his technique at striking the ball was quite exquisite, especially against Wolves (the irony) in the Carling Cup match.

I'd call this as unprepared and nerves.

People do forget sometimes that he's only 19, as he looks like he's 30

Bebe, Berbatov, Bellion, Barthez, Blanc, Bosnich - I am seeing a definite pattern here..... ;)

I didn't actually watch the game yesterday, so I am basing my opinion of other games I've seen him play and the clips we saw of him from Portugal.

Those that are worried that Bebe will be a flop can console themselves with the fact we would still be able to sell him on for a few million so in the end the loss if there is one will not be much. His wages would not be great either so we have time on our hands.

In 3 years time if Bebe is still with us and not performing then you can say he was a flop. There is a premium to pay for young players.
