Manchester United vs. Valencia CF | Champions League | 7/12/10

Ben Amos would never answer another person's question in a post match interview.

I almost spat out my drink when I read the lineup. No VDS and no PIG? Oh this is not good. I guess that record is not ours this year then.

You sound like Cashley Cole when he swerved off the road

Amos playing behind Vidic & Rio will do him the world of good, I think most people who are doubting him have hardly seen the lad play!

I think thats pretty much the point, the only first team action i've seen from him was in the CC vs Wolves where i thought he was a little suspect and now he makes his UCL debut. Still he could have a brilliant game and show his quality but i still think its a huge risk when we really need a result to ensure we qualify as group winners.

I think Rooney is going to play the full game. Berbatov, Nani and Rio are going to come off for Hernandez, Macheda/Obertan and Smalling.

Scholsey rating Amos purely based on his kicking is like rating Anderson purely because of his dreadlocks.

SAF has gone on record saying that he wants to win the game and top Group C.

He wouldn't jeopardise that if he thought Amos wasn't up to the job.

:nono: he's a nice person too.

To be fair I'm nowhere near to having formed an opinion on Amos; I'm bemused as to why he's playing ahead of VDS tonight but it will be a good chance to see him in a high profile game at least.

Foster's nerves weren't calm behind them, the buck stops with the player.

Foster had experience as a No.1 keeper at other clubs and had a different pressure on him, Amos is not as highly regarded and is only a youngster making his first steps into first team football.

I'm sure him playing behind Rio & Vidic will be far better for him than playing behind Smalling & Evans.

Quite an interesting team there. I hope Amos is up to the task tonight because he is being given a lot of trust, the same with Fabio. I hear Evra is injured and we will need him to step up and make up for his last performance. He's waited for chances to displace Evra from the starting lineup and his time is surely now. I hope he takes it.

The rest of the team looks strong and established so I expect them to perform. If we end this night with a victory and another clean sheet, we will have done well. Good luck to the lads.

I haven't really seen Amos in action.

PIG, besides being the worste kicking keeper I've witnessed at this level, is actually a solid backup. He hasn't let the team down, beat out Foster fair and square for the backup job, and has held down the fort extremely well whenever VDS was injured.

At the end of the day Fergie wouldn't start him if he didn't feel he was up for the job, so for now we'll have to wait & see, i haven't seen much of him either but i can't say i'm that worried about him as he has a world class central defense partnership in front of him.

If he does have a good game it'll be priceless to him in terms of experience & confidence though.

Fabio AND Rafael playing

Not sure about throwing Anus into the big boy pool just as yet. But have to trust Fergie's judgement.

Mata and Soldada on the bench - rested I guess, Navarro didn't travel.

Emery doesn't seem to play the same team twice and it's a lot of changes from their match against Madrid, but most people would say he didn't play his strongest 11 then either. They look weak to me but I guess we'll soon find out.

Anyway their third choice keeper Vs ours - nice deal

Obviously you don't rate Smalling as highly as some on this forum (I'll leave it there), but at the same token Valencia are a step up in opposition than the likes of Scunthorpe and Wolves with all due respect too. It is a test for young Fabio too, obviously we'll have to see how the defence works together on the night.

And indeed, with one defender on the bench you could have a rather unorthodox defence should an injury or red card happen, particularly at fullback.

If someone feels like saving me the trouble of trawling through myp2p and rojadirect by PMing me a good non-sopcast stream, I'd be very grateful.

Valencia vs Valencia

Yes, it happened.

Neville injured, Brown injured, Evra injured, Evans injured ... winter defensive crisis? :nervous:

An injured Evans is probably better for us than a fit Evans at the moment.

I'm liking that team. Glad to see Fabio, Rafael and Amos in our back 5, with the solid spine of Rio and Vidic.

Should win this I think. 3-1

Rooney x2 and Anderson.

Is there an English commentary stream with at least 700kbps? Please PM in that case!

Berbatov looking exceptionally sleek and sexy today.
