We should play 4-3-3 and play Rooney on the left of a3 man attack

I think after tuesdays game if we drop Berba and go 4-3-3 with Rooney up top nobody can complain as Berba's finishing was woeful and we've always have been and needed to be clinical against Arsenal.

I think 4-3-3 with Rooney on the left certainly works and i'd like to see us try it but i wouldn't be supprised to see us return to the tried and tested players and formation for this match.

You mean like he was against Blackburn?

Rooney has a proven track record in these games, that alone makes him a certain starter regardless of his current form in front of goal.

Well that's bollocks for my money. He's looked utterly toothless in front of goal for the better part of a year now (one effort off the bar against Valencia aside) and saying that our top scorer this season shouldn't play because Rooney has done well against Arsenal in previous seasons makes little sense really.

We'll have them all Anderson, Rooney and Berbatov unless something strange happens. I don't know how Fergie will use them, but they'll be there, methinks.

Yes. But Rooney hasn't shown anything near his best clinicality in recent weeks. So it might be better to have him and Berba on the pitch together. After all Rooney has been excellent with his play making. He and Nani can be given free roles with Berba as a central pivot.

But ATM. I can't see PArk getting dropped. so if we go 4-3-3., I agree Rooney is likely to start with Berba on the bench.

True

It makes perfect sense when you consider the track record, the fact that he understands the role of lone striker against arsenal, the fact that he hasn't played as a lone striker this season, the fact that he was so at home in the role last season and the fact that we need to play 4-3-3 to be at our most effective against Arsenal.

I also didn't say that we should drop Berba, what I did say was that after his wasteful display against Valencia if we did he could have no complaints, Its not like I can remember many clear cut chances that Rooney has fluffed this season as he's been playing a little deeper than last season in most game for me he hasn't been around the box enough to really be able to say its his finishing which has been the problem.

For what its worth I hope we do start with Berba but if we don't he could have no complaints.

fecking love it, our best player over the last few matches, and looks like he's gaining all his proper attributes finally

What about a 4-4-2 with Anderson on the left, but tucked infield instead of playing as a winger with Evra offering the width down our left hand side? I personally think this is the most likely scenario as I can't see Rooney or Berbatov being dropped.

If a midfielder has to drop to the bench, it is Fletch. Much as I love Fletch, his form lately has been crap and maybe a brief rest won't do him any harm. If we're going 3 in midfield, it'll be Scholes, Carrick and Anderson.

It's going to be a tricky selection choice for SAF as Fletcher has been out of form and Scholesy is just coming back from an injury, it would seem unfair for either to replace Anderson.

I think this is most likely, it will mean Rooney will have to put a extra shift in on the left but SAF is going to set us up to get them on the counter (like always) so 3 men in CMF is a must - and dropping Anderson after his last few performances would be stupid. Carrick-Anderson-Scholes in midfield will be my bet anything else would be a huge confidence blow for Anderson and im not sure Fletcher would offer us anything more given his current form (then again he does always play well against Asnl)

Anderson, Berbatov, Rooney and Nani in the team.. with the likes of Rafael and Evra playing at full back. This United side has all the tools to outplay Arsenal on Monday. I don't think a 4-3-3 suits Berbatov and Rooney particularly.. they function better in a 4-4-2, or a lopsided 4-2-3-1... with Berba, Nani, Park behind Rooney and Carrick and Anderson as the two in midfield with a more deeper lying Park.

VDS
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Carrick Anderson
Nani Berbatov Park
Rooney

However Fergie might think its too attacking and we might still win by Rooney on the left etc as some are suggesting.

We'll probably go with a 4-4-2, but with Park/Giggs operating a little more centrally if needed.

I'd say on form Fletcher doesn't deserve to start, however he loves playing against Arsenal and a big game like this could kick start his season. Tough decision. Either way I'm sure the Matchday gimps will complain about it.

Brilliant performance, tired abit towards the end but that is expected. He is improving his forward play every game it seems.

The way he won the ball off wilshire for the nani chance was the highlight of the whole game for me. Like taking candy from a baby :) monster of a player.

He's been absolutely fantastic in his last 5 games. He's pretty much first choice in our midfield right now I would say. Great to see that Valencia match aside his stamina has increased a lot.

Great performance.

Great performance, should have been taken off earlier though because he really looked tired.

Good performance.

That tackle on the edge of the box and the following run that led to Nani's chance (Or was it the penalty) was just brilliant.

He was okay.

Good strength on the ball and looked to support Rooney. This is somewhat encouraging.

However, his passing was very erratic and unsurprisingly he was out of energy after around 60 minutes.

Great performance and attitude, pathetic in front of goal though.

:boring:

He had a shot taken in a close situation stopped with a brilliant save, another shot which went just wide.

Pathetic infront of goal tonight was our highest paid player and striker who hasn't scored from open play in 9 months and now he's being paid to fluff penalties.
