His conditioning is a concern tbh. I was prepared to forgive a lack of stamina in his first few games back on the basis he lacks match fitness. That excuse wears a bit thin when he seems less and less fit, the more games he plays.

If he can sort that out he'll be a fantastic player, as we've seen in recent weeks but it's really up to him to do the hard yards in training. We can't carry a 60 minute young player who seems even less able than the oldest players in our squad to cope with a hectic schedule of games.

These scrappy away games where the oppsition sets out to hustle us on to the back foot are where we need Anderson's bustle and physicality in midfield. It's OK to shine at home but I'd like to have seen more from him at Brum and Brom.

He still looks unfit, yet fitter than before. He seems to run out of steam after the 70th minute. Being so young, that's when he should be pushing on whilst the rest tire. I think he's always going to be that way though.

Maybe that has something to do with it. Then again, you don't necessarily need good pre-season to get fit. A player can achieve full fitness during a season.

I feel Yes. If they are not the type that tends to get injured during the season ala Anderson. IMO the more I watch Anderson this year the more I see him as a player suffering the effects of a lack of a proper pre-season run. I don't know what they do to our players in pre season, but it sure works for the vast majoity and gets them firing on all cylinders from Christmas time onwards at United. Even fitness wise. Only in his first season with us did he not display this dead after 70 minutes thing of his.

By the way, isnt this the first time he has been actually fit for us through the hectic christmas period of games?

Na. He played through 07/08 and 08/09. We had more players to rotate in those days mind you so no one played every game. I can't recall him being injured last season either but I don't think he played over the xmas period.

Wasn't Ando given a short holiday to go back home last christmas(or the one before) ala what Ronaldo was given when he was younger?

not his best game yesterday, but he has played a lot of games in recent times. Think he needs a rest.

He struggles a bit in games where there isn't a lot of space. Either for him to run at players or to slice defenses open with this through passing. This is why he's excelled in games where we are at home and when we faced Valencia who gave a lot of space in the middle with their gung-ho like attacks.

Oh and as it wouldn't be a Top post without some motm stats, here is his game log that highlights his form at home as opposed to away:

I hope he'll start against Stoke at home, but he'll probably be given a rest ahead of the Liverpool game, which is probably wise if Scholes is ready for thursday.

On another note, I reckon he and Hernandez could benefit from each other with Anderson's through balls and Hernandez great runs and pace.

Definitely. He's got the physical attributes and skills which will help him blast past midfield in an open game, but hasn't quite got the wisdom yet to handle tighter midfields where decision making and accuracy and more important.

Anderson: Sir Alex best in the world
Anderson believes his up-and-down relationship with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made him into a better player.

The 22-year-old was recently handed a new four-and-a-half-year contract at United as reward for a strong start to the season.

It had looked like Anderson would leave the club last season after struggling at times since his arrival from Porto in 2007.

Some poor performances, coupled with a lack of goals and personal problems, saw the midfielder fall down the pecking order, yet the player credits his run-ins with his manager as turning him into the player he is today.

"Sir Alex has always offered me advice from the day I arrived, in the good and the bad moments," Anderson told The Sun.

"Many times he was unhappy with my work but that only added extra incentive to me.

"The coach wanted to see my reaction, it wasn't negative and my relationship with him is good.

"After my injury I worked so hard and made a big effort to get chances in the team. Sir Alex gave me confidence too and helped increase my performance.

"For me he is the best coach in the world because he is so direct with us and is clear in what he wants us to do."

As long as he never tries to do a step-over again, I will be glad to see him try more no-look passes.

It really makes a difference when a midfielder is able to dribble with the ball.

Anderson eyes lengthy stay
Brazilian keen to stay at Old Trafford for a long time

Anderson is keen to stay with Manchester United for as long as possible and emulate the success enjoyed by two of the club greats.

The Brazilian midfielder is keen to attempt to replicate the careers Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have achieved at Old Trafford.

The former Porto man sees himself staying with United for the bulk of his career before returning home and playing for Gremio.

The 22-year-old has made 65 Premier League appearances for the club, although he remains a long way behind the likes of Giggs and Scholes, who have 601 and 457 appearances respectively.

"I want to make history here," said Anderson.

"I look at players like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes and I want to do what they have done.

"I want to remain here until just before the end of my career.

"Then I hope to return to Brazil and finish my career with Gremio."
Meanwhile, Anderson believes England's lack of passing may have contributed towards the nation's poor showing at the World Cup finals.

The Three Lions were well below par in South Africa and the United ace thinks too much dribbling by England's players made it tough on themselves.

Anderson felt England's frantic running around added little to their game and better use of the ball would have resulted in improved displays.

"Fitness is a priority but it is more important to make the ball do the work," he told United Review.

"You don't need to run all over the pitch. It is much better to pass the ball well from one point to another.

"It can move faster than you can, so you should keep football simple and pass the ball as much as possible.

"In England, sometimes people think you aren't very good if you don't run around a lot.

"But I think that is one of the reasons why England don't do very well at World Cup finals. They run around too much."
Nice to hear.

Good to hear. I know it's a common thing to say, but I hope he doesn't get swayed by the likes of Madrid and Barcelona. Reading the interview a few post above about Ferguson shows that he has matured quiet a bit. It's good that he is taking negative feedback as motivation to perform, instead of trying to engineer a move like he did last year when things weren't going for him.

After what happened with Rooney, I really cant take footballer's words seriously anymore which is sad and very judgemental, but Rooney was the one footballer who I thought would never do what he did.

Also, Anderson is spot on in his assessment of England.

Called upto the Brazil squad. Him and Rafael. This friendly against France could really mess us up.

Possibly managing his general fitness, possibly managing game time for Gibson, possibly questions about Scholes and Anderson in the same midfield (especially away from home, against a very fluid midfield)?

Or he could just be injured.

Hardly the end of the world.

He said his knee isn't 100% yet in an interview earlier this week. Saturday-Tuesday games probably a bridge too far.

His performances away from home leave a lot to be desired. It would have been a massive risk, for example, to have started him away to Tottenham so perhaps people will now appreciate why Fergie went with Carrick and Fletcher in that one.

He couldnt be worse than Fletcher right now.

But as for today, he wasnt good. It was a game where he could have excelled but he didnt. Hope it was a one off

Anderson's West Brom performance was far worse than anything Fletcher has produced. Anderson can be a complete and utter liability at times whereas even if Fletcher isn't playing well he'll at least cover the ground and close down space off the ball.

He was really poor. Looked fat and knackered from minute 1. Don't know if it's complacency or just one of those days.

Thank god Fergie acted and took him off along with Gibson. We were playing with 9 men (8 even, though Obertan at least helped defensively somewhat).

He seems to play worse against poor sides and better against better sides.

I am a massive anderson fan but yesterday he was shockingly bad. I dont think it's the opposition that dictates how well he plays I think it's more to do with the players around him. He always seems to play well when berbatov, nani and Rooney and I think Carrick is most suited to play alongside him.

He needs players who are looking to play one touch but also have a central mid partner to sweep up behind him when he makes his forward runs.

The big one for me though is berbatov they seem to be very much on the same wave lenghth.

Just as well Fletcher didn't play, huh?

Wasn't that bad. A couple of bad passes. Just didn't hit recent heights. Even Scholes was off colour last night. I think an unfamiliar formation and tactic had all the front 6 struggling. Only the back 5 whose role is "standard" and unchanged looked the best of the bunch.

The biggest difference seems to be between his performances home and away.

A bit like United eh? I think he needs Carrick alongside him to do well. He was woeful last night but I'm confident he'll be among our best players vs Villa....if he plays.
