Good thing he's young and still improving his game. Or is he past the age of improving, read somewhere on here you had to be about 14 to have any chance of improving

I just hope that yesterday was a blip and the performance doesn't lead to a total down turn in form.

I wouldn't blame the system for his performance yesterday. Him passing the ball straight to the opposition had nothing to do with the system, he was just off off off on it. He couldn't get simple ones right let alone the harder ones.

Bad day at the office but, hopefully it's out of his system and just goes back to the performances he has been giving us for the last couple months.

I have just finished the collaboration feature on the MotM page, and thought it was pretty relevant here considering the discussion on Gibson:

How has Anderson played with Gibson? - United MotM stats from RedCafe.net

This season:

Code:
[B][U]Together/Apart Avg. Rank	Matches[/U][/B]
Anderson with Gibson: 7.5th 4
Anderson w/o Gibson: 4.6th 11

Gibson with Anderson: 8.8th 4
Gibson w/o Anderson: 10.0th 6

Average together: 8.1th
Average apart: 7.3th

A sidenote: Berba's stats with and without Rooney are also quite interesting.

I think an Anderson home vs away comparison would be more interesting. The difference would probably be a lot more marked too.

Can anyone remember a decent away performance from Anderson this season apart from the Valencia game?

His home form has been excellent over the last couple of months. Every game is a 7 or 8 out of ten performance at home for me but I'm struggling to remember a decent away performance. He's certainly put in some good away performances in the past but I can't really recall one in this recent run of good form.

This is symptmatic of the current United side in many ways, especially the midfield away from home, so he's not alone in that respect.

Edit: Honestly did not see Pogue's post two minutes before.

Heh. Great minds.

The Valencia game does buck the trend and yes, it's hard to separate the individual from the collective in our away form. I also thought Anderson was the best of a bad bunch when we lost to WHU.

Having said all that the extent of the difference between his individual performances, home and away, is hard to explain.

The whole team has played poor away, not just Anderson. Takes 11 to make a team kinda thing perhaps

Anderson doesn't make the long cross field passes to the wingers like Scholes does. Instead, his game is more about running through the middle and trying to release players with through balls. In the past, he used to pass the ball in the air and it would often balloon out into touch, but like Sultan mentioned he has been playing these through balls on the ground lately. This makes it easier for the opposition team to intercept his passes, which is why some of his passing statistics are low.

The talent is there, but I believe he often gets over-excited and completely mishits the ball or makes the wrong decision - kind of like Nani of old. He just needs to gain some composure consistently and he will be a super player for us.

You can still judge individual performances though. Has Nani been consistently poor away from home? Or Berbatov? Giggs? Park? Vidic? Rafael?

No they have not.

None of our midfielders have been especially great away from home though. Carrick and Fletcher have some decent performances over the season, Scholes did earlier in the season, but it's a big area needing improvement.

Fergie's also not tried Carrick and Anderson away from home as a pairing this season in my recollection which is something worth trying while Fletcher is out of sorts. With Park due back shortly, it's due an attempt IMO.

Yes you can. But sometime one overanalyze stuff so much you end up with some far fetched answer. Anderson is a good player, with lots of potential, his good games etc proves that. Even tho he's a good player, he'll have good games and bad games. We as a team have had good games and bad games. A lot of the bad games have been away from home. A lot of Andersons bad games have, apparently, I cant really remember, been away from home. Conclusion end up being it's all Andersons fault, because Nani and Berbatov had a few good games. Not saying this is what you're saying..

Is it just me or Anderson looks unfit again ? Had wonderful matches during September and looked surpreme... Now looks tired and tried not to run too much.

Re-read his interview and he said his Ankle injury hasn't been fully healed yet, maybe just an excuse ? But he definitely has more stamina than this and I feel like his preserving himself at times.

Maybe its just me...

Different formations/personnel/tactics whatever.

At home he's thrived playing alongside with Carrick in a 442 with Rooney dropping deep as an outlet. Away from home against Brum I remember we played 433 with Rooney on the left. Anderson didn't seem to know what his position was in that game.

Good post. I do think he needs to work a bit on how much he gets into games away from home. But it does have a lot to do with how we play. I remember last season we beat Spurs convincingly at WHL and Anderson was fantastic, because we played the United way away from home rather than this gritty devoid of creativity one we've been this season (away of course).

That's just brilliant.

Rafael seems to be our best away player. Not unsurprising the kids got a lot of fire.

Anyone who thinks Anderson can become world class is dreaming.

Worst player on the pitch against Southampton.

Everyone gets it. You don't like Anderson. Congratulations - you're now standing out.

Just you I think. Plus it was his knee and not his ankle. He just hasn't got back to 100% from it and not surprising since he started playing once he was cleared and got a bit of training under him.

On the comment regarding him not running as much, perhaps he is learning to pick and choose his runs so he isn't dog tired after 60 minutes and is able to complete more games.

As a counter point to your view on his recent performances - someone had the complete opposite opinion.

maybe its just me but catching a bit of the reply of the game he looked fitter than earlier in the season.

On the people picking out stats and such. Should also look at what games he's played with Carrick versus without. Ando seems to do very well with Carrick behind him because Carrick shields and controls tempo while Ando harries and makes runs out of the midfield. Compliment each other well.

Only been a couple months since Call of Duty was released, give him some time...

Anderson... in 90 seconds

We grabbed United's bubbly Brazilian midfielder Anderson for a quick-fire question and answer session on a random selection of subjects...

So, Ando, what do you like to do away from football?
It’s important to relax, so I spend a lot of time on my PlayStation. I play mainly football games, but I like shooting ones, too. I also play cards, watch films and spend time with my friends.

Nani plays piano, Berba likes to draw… do you have a hidden talent?
Let me tell you that Nani isn’t very good on the piano. He’s hopeless! I didn’t know about Berba’s drawing… My talents? I’m good at video games. Does that count?

Coming from Brazil, you must like going to the beach. Where's the best sand and surf in the world?
Brazilian beaches are best, without a doubt. They’re so beautiful. I haven’t tried an English beach… it’s too cold to swim here.

We can’t help but notice your tattoos. Can you tell us about them?
The one on my right arm is all the places I’ve been to in the world. It’s not finished. The one on my left arm… oh, that was from when I was a stupid boy. I don’t know why I got that. I also have two small ones – on my wrist and my neck – dedicated to my mother and grandma.

What’s your favourite Manchester restaurant?
My house! I have amazing food at home. There’s also a nice place called Osteria. They do great Brazilian dishes – it’s not 100 per cent authentic, but it’s very close.

Your braids are part of your look, but would you ever consider cutting all your hair off?
No chance! Are you joking? My hair is my life, it’s so important to me. If you cut off my hair it’s like cutting out my heart or cutting off my legs. I’d cry for days and days. It’s been like this since I was 16.

:lol:at the Anderson interview and the reference to video games in the first two questions.

Fresh BS from the mirror unless Fergie wansts Aguerro and De Gea in return!!
Transfer News: Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Anderson from Manchester United - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Atletico Madrid want Manchester United midfielder Anderson this summer.

The Spanish club are braced to sell keeper David de Gea – a United target – as well as strikers Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan.

They are determined to bring in a big signing and have Anderson top of their list.

Not a chance the only cm we have with any skill is going anywhere.

I do not think Anderson is good enough for us. His long range passing is poor, he cant shoot for feck, he cant head, he is lazy sometimes. How can player like that be a Manchester United playmaker?

He is a good addition to 4-3-3 formation, but you can find many players who would improve us, and give that extra that Anderson cant - goals form midfield.

I wouldnt mind him being sold for a decent money.

Rant over. Just my POV.

Yep agree, he's been here a while now and hasn't really done a thing. At times he looks like improving but then slips into a lull again. Just get the impression he'll never become the player we all want him to become.

One minute he looks like a brilliant, pacy strong central midfielder, the next he looks like the clumsiest player in the PL. There seems to be no middle ground with him, it's either all or nothing.

Like bambi

Struggled to get on the ball for the first half hour and when he did he was unusually conservative, but he pushed up a lot closer to Rooney thereafter and looked a lot better holding the ball well high up the pitch and bringing others into play.

I must have missed the part in the movie where Bambi looked like a pacy, strong midfield player :)

It's in the directors cut. ;)

He definitely was too far adrift from Rooney for the first half hour but I was thinking maybe he was worried he'd get caught out defensively. In truth despite many wanting him to be a #10 type of player in a 4-3-3 his best performances over the last 2 seasons have been in 4-4-2 alongside Carrick.

Very true, in a 442 i think we utilize his ability to make up ground quickly and set things off. Yesterday he looked out of sorts which is odd because in previous seasons his good work was done in a 433

Pinched these stats off a blog on RoM.

United: Total passes (415/534) in 90 minutes. 78%.
Carrick (6/6) in 12 minutes. 100%. 0.5 passes per minute.
Scholes (53/62) in 78 minutes. 86%. 0.68 passes per minute.
Fletcher (46/54) in 90 minutes. 85%. 0.51 passes per minute.
Anderson (23/30) in 67 minutes. 77%. 0.34 passes per minute.

City: Total passes (423/542) in 90 minutes. 78%.
Barry (48/56) in 90 minutes. 86%. 0.53 passes per minute.
Milner (35/44) in 61 minutes. 80%. 0.57 passes per minute.
Toure (61/79) in 90 minutes. 77%. 0.68 passes per minute.
Silva (43/60) in 90 minutes. 72%. 0.67 passes per minute

I think they highlight one of Anderson's more frustrating qualities. When he's not on top of his game, what stands out the most is how few passes he makes. Not worth getting hung up on pass accuracy, when he's expected to be creative but it is frustrating to watch him so much less involved in the game than all the other midfielders on the pitch.

It also explains why Fergie might have been reluctant to pick him in recent weeks. Chances are he's similarly uninvolved in games on the training pitch. Here's hoping he can find his mojo again soon.

He's 22. He's shown plenty of promise and potential, and a lot of that was almost immediately at a very young age, which tells us he certainly has the ability, just needs the consistency now. Let's give him more time.

I have very high hopes for Anderson, I think he will be a major player for us in the upcoming years.

I think that relates to how he seems to have a different role in the team when he's on the pitch together with Scholes. How does his stats look in games where Scholes is not on the pitch and he's the playmaker?

What role could that be which involves using the ball so infrequently?

He made significantly fewer passes per minute than every other CM on the pitch, bar none. Surely at least one of them was playing a similar role to what we were expecting Anderson to do?

(my money's on David Silva)
