Manchester United v Manchester City

Yes?

You dont think Brbatov's been brilliant?
You don't think Rooney's been way below par?
You don't think Fletcher's been awful?

What bit do you disagree with?

Also, carrick has been fairly poor over the last few games, I dont have a problem with his non selection.

Disagree. 4-5-1 calls for possession and ball retention, which is exactly what Carrick's job is. No other player does it better than Carrick on our squad.

Are you serious or being sarcastic? No person keeps the ball better than Carrick? I suggest you keep your eyes on Scholes.

People are already complaining it's a defensive line up, throw Carrick into the mix and it's even more defensive.

I must have missed Carricks brilliant season tbh

Fletchers been below par by his standards too though and seems less dropable.

I don't mind oshea in, regardless of whether rafael is injured or not - that side of the defence will need an experienced head with Smalling playing etc

Im inclined to agree. And he did quite well in his last game for us.

I just hope that Rooney can explode in this match and feed off the balls from midfield. He'll definately get chances.

At least our best attacking threat is on the field though. Nani has been on brilliant form of late. Hope it continues today.

He might occasionally have something good to offer offensively, not saying he doesn't but he's not even close to Rafael.

It surprised me, but obviously the game plan is to start off conservatively.

A very good point.

I'll say it again, given the epic planning that goes into putting our team/formation together, it's laughable the way people on here just dismiss the line ups on here seconds after they're announced.

That's the point of the formation - if we're going for 4-5-1, then it certainly has much to do with retaining possession. Carrick is our only holding midfielder. Utilizing Scholes in that role would be a waste to his talent and capabilities.

They're not utilising him in that role.

You'd think Fergie might have an idea of where and where not to play Scholes by now but clearly you're a fecking genius.

There must be a thought behind all this - I was sure we'd start with two strikers, especially because it had worked so well in home games. Still plenty of creativity in the attacking third and very good options on the bench.

COME ON, UNITED !!

Why would we take risks when we're 5 pts ahead of them with a game in hand?

Because we are 4 points ahead of our only title threat without a game in hand. Our aim this season should be to win the league, not finish higher than City.

WTF no Carrick. Also think park would have started today had he not been injured.

I would assume that Ferguson has done his homework on Man City. I guess Scholes playing deep has had its advantages in many games.

Giggs and Scholes do their fair share of tracking back, that shouldn't be forgotten.

I do worry about a lone striker against a wall of defence though...who's going to make up the numbers going forward for us?

i've got a bad feeling about today. i'm hoping rooney has a stormer, we're due a big performance from him. a hatrick might ease the forgetting of his contract saga.

So you think we can only beat City by taking risks?

I think our chances of winning the game are just as good with this slightly conservative line up than if he'd played Berba and Rafael and gone for their throats.

So we're gonna be playing an Ultra-defensive City team with only one striker upfront, I fear we're really gonna struggle to score now

Maybe Giggs will play upfront with Rooney and score like he did when he played the role at Eastlands last season. ;)

Right, because we were discussing possession retention on the first place, which he said that Scholes was the best at retaining possession. Obviously, I was referring to the holding midfielder role. Secondly, someone needs to fill in that defensive role to cover for Scholes to go forward (not exactly in a prime condition to track back), and Carrick is obviously the better option to fill that role.
