Manchester United v Manchester City

We've already seen that playing very very well is not enough for him to cement a role in this team. He's looked a bit off the pace at times but I won't blame him. He just never gets a consistent run in the side.

My point was, if he is playing behind the striker, you must try to get yourself much more involved.

He hasn't been in the game at all while playing there.

Anderson looks much better in a 4-4-2 with someone covering his back. Behind the hole, he just doesn't have that attacking threat that you'd expect ( reverting back to Scholes, you'd know he has a goal in him ) Anderson lacks that and with Rooney not making run, I don't think we need a behind the hole player.

Just my opinion.

Why Chico? Berbatov would provide better possession and control of the tempo.

Anderson certainly will come off, probably for Carrick.

No fecking way, i'm not buying the Berbatov possession and control of tempo in a game like this one. You need to get the ball to do that. This game will be won or lost in the midfield battle, and they are pretty good at that.

We are fine as we are, a fresh Chico would be nice but he is not fresh, and Rooney contributes more to winning possession than Berba ever will.

Keep it as it is and let's see hwo we get on. Ando does worry me though.

Don't see how Berbatov could have done a better job than Rooney at the moment.

Agreed, the service to Rooney hasn't been great. Long balling it to him is hardly going to work. Lots of stray passing as well in that half.

But i'd like to see Berba get some minutes. Still our most potent striker.

We've had plenty of balls into the box with nobody there. I don't think there is any need to have 3 CMs at this point. As I said, they aren't doing much in that area. However, the number of balls we are putting into and around their box would suggest that Berbatov instead of Anderson would be a good idea.

This is all true. But once they bring on Dzeko alongside Tevez and have Silva float off the two we could use the extra man in midfield to pick him up.

Anyone else think Yaya Toure is exactly the central midfielder we're crying out for?

Won it or not he was there in the position and challenging for it. The service to him has been poor, the crosses poor for most of the game but yet he's played a decent front man role. He's working hard and putting pressure on their defense. Say what you want about him but he's best suited to the lone striker role in our team.

Come off it mate, you're trying to big up 'challenging for a header' as a big moment here. It doesn't take any skill or quality as a player to jump in the air, he didn't win the ball or do anything to construct the play so let's not make out like he did. I'm not into criticising him for the sake of it like some people but there's no sense blowing smoke up his arse either, he's not done much of anything in that first half.

Is it entirely his fault? No, but it's still true.

Are you an idiot?

Take off a player thats looked fantastic thus far, only to weaken our midfield and take a more attacking role. If City aren't trying to score at every opportunity at the moment then they're a bunch of spastics.

Jesus christ hes been good ,fantastic is Keano or robson, Fletcher is not now or will never be fantastic, hes doing a good job for the team.

Loving it that Nani has the confidence to keep trying goal attempts. Despite missing numerous direct shots on goal, he is still the difference.

Giggs and Fletcher have been influential too.

Rooney and Anderson need to make meaningful contributions if we are to go on and win this match.

Goal came from no-where. Great pass by Giggs. I wouldn't mind seeing Ando come off for Berba.

But I reckon we'll keep it the same, that goal really lifted everyone.

Why would you want to see a striker on for a midfielder when we are a goal up?

Really nervous about City attacking. They look quite potent. Couple of times they've caught us off guard.

It's amazing how we get results with the 433 without really having an attacking mdfielder or playmaker to go with it. While I'm really delighted at the match so far, you can tell how this midfield heavy formation suits city much more with sillva roaming and playmaker. Anderson has struggled to do the same. Wed he phenomenal as a 433 with that kind of player. If valencia was fit giggsy could play that role well.

This is all true. But once they bring on Dzeko alongside Tevez and have Silva float off the two we could use the extra man in midfield to pick him up.

Yes, and they'll create so much space for the counter as they try to chase it, that we really should have two centre forwards on the pitch. We'll slaughter them on the counter.

Cant believe youse are still moaning. We have defended brilliantly and City have dared to play well and attack. Then we turned it on and played much better.

Change nothing unless we have to

But i'd like to see Berba get some minutes. Still our most potent striker.

Yeah, Rooney is most preferable in that lone striker role, but a switch in tactical formation is what we need. Bring on Berbatov, have him partner up with Rooney up front. I don't see the need for a more compact midfield in this game.

Don't see how Berbatov could have done a better job than Rooney at the moment.

agreed. rooney's played very well. he's challenging the ball when defending, very active, taking on players when he's got the ball. his winning the ball in the air lead to the great pass from giggs to nani for the goal.

I don't see the problem, Rooney can come deep, he normally does anyway, just stick Berbatov up their on his own. Rooney is just as capable as Anderson in that role.
