Manchester United vs. Marseille

Talksport are saying that Vidic is out and Brown will partner Smalling.

With Vidic out I have a feeling SAF will go for 4-5-1:

------------VDS-------------
Rafael-Smalling-Brown-Evra
-------Carrick---Scholes-----
Valencia--Gibson-------Nani
------------Rooney-----------

Talksport are now reliable eh? Or they've read the mail and are taking it as gospel?

Wait for the team sheet at around 7pm, lads.

Talksport and the Mail have exactly what they wanted. Panic.

Wait for news from United.

Tbh I'm not overly concerned about this match. For me PL has to be priority this season so if even getting knocked out here helps us in our League challenge I'll take it. However ofcourse I want us to win tonight!

I'll never understand why people post things like this...

I'd like us to win but I don't care if we loose...what manner of suppoter is this?

I think we'll go 4-3-3 today even if it's a home game. Maybe something like this, if Vidic is out

Edwin

O'Shea--Wes--Smalling--Evra

Gibson---Scholes

Rooney

Rafael---Giggs

Berbatov

Worst case scenario is that we start Fabio and Rafael - which is a goal head start

Man City skipper Tevez visits Marseille hotel to offer Man Utd lowdown
tribalfootball.com March 16, 2011, 1:05 am

Manchester United fans are sure to be fuming over news that Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez has been spotted in the company of Marseille players.

The Daily Star says Tevez spent two hours in the Marseille team hotel in Manchester yesterday giving them the lowdown on United.

Didier Deschamps' French outfit take on United tonight looking to cause an upset in the last 16, second-leg clash, which is poised at 0-0.

But it seems former United favourite Tevez is desperate to do all he can to ruin the chances of Sir Alex Ferguson's men.

The Manchester City star, who has not spoken to Fergie since leaving Old Trafford in July 2009, was seen chatting to Marseille defender Gabriel Heinze at the Radisson Hotel.

He's probably just there to pay a visit to his equally twatish old Argie pal and the media typically spin it to another story

Saw this on UEFA's Twitter earlier and was quite bemused by it all. Apparently they were testing some sort of results service.

Why am I reading on Serbian news that Vidic is out? Haven't seen it reported anywhere else, so I am not 100% sure on this at all.

The Daily Heil reported it and then TalkShite ran with it, nobody else has said anything as far as I can see, and SAF said yesterday he should be fine. Nobody will know anything for certain until the team is announced but I would be surprised if he's not playing.

Fergie said he picked up a knock at the Arsenal game, he didn't train yesterday and is a doubt.

They are friends and from same country as well. What do they expect? I'm sure Evra and Park meet Tevez a few times since he left.

Loads of Marseille fans knocking around Piccadilly with megastore bags and wearing United scarves, I love it when European teams are in town.

From the Telegraph, for what its worth, but I guess nobody really knows until they announce the team sheet...

There is some good news though.

Skipper Nemanja Vidic should be available after missing training yesterday with a minor knock, while both Michael Carrick and Michael Owen should be available along with Nani, who was ruled out by Ferguson on Friday but has made a quicker than expected recovery from a badly gashed leg.

Manchester United v Marseille: Ryan Giggs cautious but confident ahead of Champions League clash - Telegraph

van der Sar
Rafael Smalling Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Scholes Nani
Berbatov Rooney
--
Lindegaard; O'Shea, Brown, Fábio; Gibson, Giggs; Hernandez

Assuming that Fletcher, Anderson, Ferdinand and Park are not fit, and that Owen is not fit enough to make the bench. Got a few other ideas, but they're obviously purely down to who's available:

If the Vidic rumours are true, then I can see us starting 433, Brown replacing Vidic, Berbatov dropping to the bench and O'Shea in a deeper midfield role (or even both Scholes and Giggs starting in the middle, with Carrick sitting, front three of Valencia, Rooney, Nani).

The more I thought about it, the more I think Valencia will start, rather than come off the bench. If we had another fit first-team midfielder, then maybe he wouldn't. But starting Scholes & Giggs against Liverpool didn't work and I don't think Fergie will do that again in a 442 (and I also don't think Obertan will make the squad). Giggs will probably replace Valencia in the second half, with Nani moving to the right.

I bet we make it hard for ourselves, but win 2-1.

There aint a single United supporter in the whole fecking world that would care if Tevez
had spent the last year personally coaching every current, former and future Marseille player
in how to beat us.

I'm off for some jogging, I don't like to sit in front of my computer with three hours to the game, shitting up myself.

Will be back when line-ups are announced.

Hopefully it's Edwin - Rafael, Smalling, Vidic, Evra - Nani, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs - Rooney, Berbatov.

I'm hoping for

VdS
Rafael-Smalling-Vidic-Evra
Scholes-Giggs-Carrick
Nani-Berbatov-Rooney

This should give us penetration and ball retention. Valencia on for Nani at half-time if he can't play the full game.

if we are to win any trophy this year its wont be easily won. We have had such a weird year with injuries and form and off field stuff that we havent really been seen to play with our usual swagger. Todays game is just another example of that.

Sir Alex Ferguson has tasked his players with proving to Marseille boss Didier Deschamps that this current United team is capable of conjuring exciting, enthralling football after claims from the Frenchman that the Reds lack fantasy.

Should be a good one, 4-4-2 hopefully.

I have a feeling they will score first. Not sure why I'm getting these negative vibes but there ya go

For what it's worth SSN don't think Vidic has made it.

Just caught the end of James Coopers preview on SSN and yep he was talking like Vidic is definitely missing :nervous:

edit: on nani/valencia starting:
why not?
I can see Valencia lasting 90 minutes. He is a beast and has been training for over a month. Nani could get 60 mins out.. He has trained for 2 days now.. its not like he was out for a long time either.. players have gone away on personal breaks and returned a day or two before games. Obviously he would be on the bench if he isnt fully fit and is a risk

I'm not saying both will start, but I it wont really be that big a shock for me

Training and playing full games are two different things.
