Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Seriously you think Scholes is one of the top 10 best ever players?

Probably not, but he wouldn't exactly be far off. I think he's the best out and out midfielder I've seen, personally. You don't get the praise he's gotten without being magnificent Sharky.

You can't say he doesn't hold a candle to Zidane, that's implying he's nowhere NEAR his standard which just isn't true. They're almost like for like when you compare them at club level.

They are different players though, in many respects.

Top class players cost top money, it's just the way it is.

You'll struggle to find a player of Modric's class for cheaper than that. Yes, the Ozil transfer was a strange one.

Who in Germany is as good as Modric and would cost 1/3 of his price?

Sahin could be a possibility with his current contract negotiations.

I agree that Modric is a good player but we will be paying way over the odds and I would rather we spent the money better.

To be fair, most of us are looking for the complete player ala Zidane to replace Scholes where no one really has emerged yet.

Modric has the skill, pace, tecnique but he does tend to look small and most people will often look at the end product which he hasn't done a lot yet....

But if you tend to watch him week-in-week out surely you can see a player who is probably playing a lot better than the MF's we have at this moment.

30m looks way off, but if we consider selling a few players, I definitely think Modric can hack it for us.

Anyhow, the players ppl. are raving on at the Bundes right now is probably Dormunds Dynamo's in Sahin/Kagawa ( which apparently was injured and is a big loss )

Gotze is a real gem there...

I've only tried to follow Dortmund as they play great football, haven't watched the other teams as much so i can't give a full report.

For me though, if we do a double swoop for Sahin/Gotze... It'll probably cost as much as Modric now so give me those 2.

Kagawa in my opinion is better used on the wing then playing in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 so although I think he's a magnificent player, I wouldn't want him here. If we're talking about Japanese players, I would prefer Honda now that I've seen how our season is finishing. A strong midfield player, eye for a pass, great shot on him, can play up top too, plays in Russia so Lord knows he used to the cold and physical play. Not the creative player we're looking for but he would add a second dimension to our play. Liverpool are meant to be in for him though and he's already said before he wants to get out of Russia.

Still don't see it. I think some have become so enamored with this transfer dream they overrate Modric full tilt. For 40m plus he better be the best at his position very often or the club is facing another Berbatov-style dilemma.

I'd take Sneijder over Modric. Only a year older but more polished as a player and can dictate the game better than the Croatian.

In an interview for inside united the manger has chosen modric as his player of the year. Clearly admires him, might be a target in the summer

What a player. He's by some distance Tottenham's best player. So composed on the ball, he doesn't panic whenever he's put under pressure.Buy him already !!

I adore him and while i don't want to desecrate this thread, kind of hilarious how everyone hounded that Scholsey (the poster) fella, for daring to stick his neck out and rate this guy.

Even if anyone following him since early in his career could logically see that he would be a perfect fit for a club like United, particularly now that he is used to the rough and tumble of English football.

Yes. Everyone hounded Scholesy because he rated Modric :wenger:

What? That isn't why Scholesy was banned, most people have rated Modric for years now.

Wasn't that partially the reason? Can't say I have been posting very much in the last 12 months (up until recently). But that seemed to be the major gripe.

Oh and spare me the stupid smiley.

Edit: What was all that responding with just 'Modric' to his posts about?

No. On both counts :wenger:

Just because the posts were "Modric", it doesnt mean the fact he rated Modric was the reason he had a rough time.

Its because he had some silly ideas and responding with "Modric" got under his skin. A lot of redcafe have rated Modric for years

 of course everyone has rated Modric for years you plank!

You haven't explained why he was belittled for this belief.

Have a word with this guy who clearly disagrees, despite then editing his post

You shouldnt need someone to inform you on why Scholesy was made fun of. You've clearly read a few of his posts.

@FortBoyard: I will tell you.Scholesy wasn't laughed at because he rated Modric but because he's always said Modric was good enough in 2 man CM.At the time, Modric wasn't half as good as now and wasn't playing in the center. It's so far the only correct prediction/assumption Scholesy has ever made.
He may deserve some credit

I'm very confused now. Editing posts? Have a word with this guy?

I feel like I'm talking to Rain Man.

Edit: Aimed at Ekeke, thanks Kouroux for clearing it up for me.

Gotta disagree. There were other people who felt he could play in a 2 man midfield and they didnt have "Modric" as a reply to their every post.

He got that reply because he talked about Modric a lot, thought he was better than Fabregas and genuinely had a lot of weird ideas about football and players. "Modric" was known to annoy him and it was easier than typing out "Scholesy you've made another post full of stupid points". Cant remember ever doing it myself, but he brought it on himself and not because of any rational idea like Modric being able to play in a 2.

I'm not talking about why was Scholesy generally laughed at.I'm talking only about the Modric case and how he was among the rare ones to think he'd be a great central midfielder.
There weren't many if any caftards who thought Modric would be this good in that role.

The only Spurs player today who turned up. Must be so disheartening for him to be surrounded by such a shower of shite.

Unfair on Sandro, Dawson and perhaps one or two others Pogue. But he certainly was their standout today.

Dawson was very good again but yeh, other than that they were utter shit.

There were a few of us caftards on here who thought Modric would be ace, yet none of them got the Scholesy treatment so Ekeke is kinda right.

What I liked today was his tackling and defensive work. He's really good for a player of his size and style when it comes to the defensive part of his job

Think he should be our main outfield target. So composed on the ball.. Would fit in real well here, natural progression too.

Scholesy got stick for Modric because he was one of the players he used for the you cannot improve on technique after 16 years of old skit, that he could fully rate a player in 20 minutes and for later saying he was a better player than Fabregas.

He was also the player he used to use to rubbish Anderson when he was highly rated on the Cafe again using the you cannot improve technique theory. There are loads of other reasons but Modric featured heavily in his most bullshit theories.

Few who thought he was better than Fabregas thats true.

But I genuinely believe a lot of the Modric posts, at least the more recent ones, were because of Scholesy and nothing to do with Modric. And the ease of which you could annoy him by typing just the one word.

The reason I'm making a point of disagreeing with your point about him rating Modric in a midfield two is, I'm one of the others who thought he'd be fine in a midfield two. And I can remember a couple of others who felt the same. But yeah it was just Scholesy who got the replies and its because he went way over the top with all the Modric praise.
