Berbatov vs Van Persie

Well, I'd like to see 27 year old Sneijder at United but considering his wage demands for a start, it may be a no-go, and if you read The Sun other than stare at the lass on Page Three, they say this;

Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder rules himself out of a move to Manchester United | The Sun |Sport|Football

I would like Sniejder too.

Sneijder being an mid fielder would last longer and would be perfect because we currently need a CM the most and his age will not hinder the progress and emergence of the young talented midfielders that are coming through our academy.

I know you say nobody would be happier than you if Berbatov became the hero but that's a crock dude. You'd still wish it was someone else that did it

Because I criticise him doesn't mean I don't want him to succeed mate, I honestly don't. It's just I think he's not the right for us, we're far better with more conventional strikers upfront in the formation that suits us best, or strategy is a better word which is attacking with speed, not holding up play.

I've done threads which I've openly praised him too Bob, I didn't think at the time 'I'm gonna deliberately hate him regardless how he does', I always want every United player to do well.

But if you asked me who I'd love to score the winning goal? Ideally Michael Owen would be amazing irony although I doubt he'll play, I would love Giggsy to get it although I honestly don't care who gets it because we are gonna win.

RVP is a better player; always liked his playing style.

Berbatov is capable of certain things that no other strikers in world football are; and he's been great for us for large parts of this season, but still falls short.

So yeah, I think Rooney and Hernandez have been the best strike partnership around the past few months...

I think you're forgetting Suarez and Kuyt.
yes-.gif

The way you presented the point made it seem like Berbatov was, on the whole, overrated. I think you'll find that the most common majority opinion throughout his time has been that he's either not good enough, not suited to the team or doesn't have the mentality for it. I'd even go as far to say that a majority would have been happy to see him leave last summer, and if not that, then at least they'd have been indifferent to the idea. I think the thread starter was even in this majority. The criticism of him this season has died down a lot but the praise hasn't really amped up to the same degree, nor has it lasted for as long a time, thus I can't understand how the overall opinion is 'overrated by your lot'.

Being overrated by a small section of fans isn't really the same, and if it was the point you were making I don't really understand why you would, because every player of every team has a small section of fans that 'overrate' them.

At the end of last season I said it was SAF time to either stick with Berba or sell him and I said selling him at that time made no sense and thus we should keep him and offer him an extension. Selling him now makes even less sense unless we give him a two year extension and then sell him which is not the way we operate.

Maybe not, but I've seen a significant enough minority here who see his touch and instantly conclude Zlatan is a poor man's Berbatov that I felt it worth anticipating those.

Van Persie is Arsenal's main striker and Berbatov is our 3rd striker who just won the golden boot.

Carroll on the scrap heap already?

Nah. But he's been injured and in and out of the team. Kuyt has been in terrific form under Dalglish and has linked up really well with Suarez.

Don't be a fecking idiot. Van Persie's always had the talent to be one of the best, but has never been able to have a sustained crack at it through various, and persistent, injury troubles.

He showed last season, and the season before that though that he was when he finally strung a few games together. Not to mention this season too.

Granted the term World Class is ambiguous, are we talking top 5? Top 10? Best players for their nations?

Cesc would you call Van Persie a consistent free kick taker and/or an excellent free kick taker? I've seen him score some absolute belters and hit the bar with a few others but I thought he seemed infuriatingly hit and miss.

Probably tries too much with his free-kicks... Like you said though, he's hit and miss. But I'd still say he is up with the best of them in the league.
