Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

I mean, Smalling wasn't brought in as a finished article to instantly improve our defence. We need near-finished articles to come into our midfield if we want to compete for CL titles.

But that's a very short-sighted way of developing a team. It's like teaching an old dog new tricks. Finished articles find it much harder to adapt to a new approach, a new system. Look at Berbatov. He was the finished article when he arrived ... but it's taken him several seasons to adapt to United (some would say he's never quite adapted and we have to change our system to accommodate).

40 million plus? Are you out of your mind?
Bentley, Keane, Dos Santos, Naughton, O'Hara, Bassong, Kranjcar, Hutton (and that's not an exhaustive list) ....

So yes, selling these players who've been out on loan/ fringe players will raise 40m+

Think of Luka Modric has any principles he'll join us, a club with enormous history, and currently more succesful, instead of what I like to call 'fake' clubs, like Chelsea or Man.City. Luckily I think Modric is a man of principles.

Thats rather strange, if he is a man of principles then why would he not stay with spurs, its not like they are not likely to improve with a few good signings?

A newbie PM'd me this:

this is from twitter..
SkySportsPeteO Pete O'Rourke
Luka Modric has revealed in an interview with Jutarnji List he could leave #Spurs if the right offer comes in for him.

He also told me to tell Glaston to shut the feck up.
I'm willing to bet that Modric will still be at Spurs this coming season.

I'm sure your newbie will be keen to put money where his/her mouth is ....

I would keep an eye on this actually.

You already know Spurs are our feeder club. Modric has disproved all doubts about him in the Premier League and he's already got the class for continental football. Fergie's a known admirer and I suspect he feels Modric would be a worthy replacement for Scholes. If we make Spurs an offer they can't refuse, it will happen.

Looks like Scholesy's dying wish might be fulfilled.

:lol::lol::lol:

That's fecking hilarious. You'll make about £30 million tops on that lot.

If nothing else it'd be worth it just to see Glaston disappear for another couple months.

I really dont rate him. Very good mid-table player but not united quality. Will end up another Berbatov and will be extremely overpriced.

SPURS ARE NOT OUR FEEDER CLUB!

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has reiterated his stance that none of the club's top players - including rumoured Manchester United target Luka Modric - will be sold this summer.

Modric was the latest Spurs player to be linked with a move from White Hart Lane, with the Reds reportedly ready to part with around £25million transfer for the Croatian midfielder, who has enjoyed a brilliant season at the London club.

The retirement of Paul Scholes means United are on the lookout for a replacement and although Modric insists he is happy at his current club, Sir Alex Ferguson could offer the midfielder Champions League football, and Tottenham can not.

Redknapp, who took Spurs to the Champions League quarter-finals last season, is determined to hang on to his most prized assets, however, and has warned that selling such players as Modric would undermine his long-term project of making the club top four regulars.

Redknapp said: "All of our key players are under contract. The chairman and I have discussed this and we have no intention of selling any of them.

"They are at a top club and we are looking to improve the squad in the summer, not weaken it, in order to push for a Champions League place again next season."

Meanwhile, Ashley Young is putting all talk of his own future on hold until after England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday.

Young has only 12 months remaining of his current contract at Aston Villa and is being strongly linked with a move to United.

But the former Watford player is determined to look no further than the clash with the Swiss as he strives to cement a place in Fabio Capello's starting line-up.

Young said: "To be honest, I've said I'll speak to the manager (Gerard Houllier) and chairman (Randy Lerner) at the end of the season.

"I've got to concentrate on this game and then we'll see what happens regarding talking to them after this game."

Young has refused to sign an improved or extended contract and is almost certain leave Villa for around £15million.

I think they left this part missing:

"Redknapp also reiterated his stance that he is not interested in pocketing any commission from the sale and purchase of players"

Bentley 5m
Keane 4.5m
Dos Santos 2m
Naughton 2m
OHara 3.5m
Bassong 6m
Kranjcar 7m
Hutton 4m

I reckon 34-35m

The same was said about Berbatov, and we all know what happened

Having said that, i'm not entirely sure if i want Modric at United though. I don't make the decisions anyway

And so it begins...

My gut says this transfer WILL happen.

As will a couple of other major signings I think.

This isn't just Football Manager, where you can sell whoever you want and always get your asking price.

Will those players get better contracts elsewhere than they have at Spurs?

If not, why would they leave? To play football? Possibly, but it doesn't always work out like that.

Modric.

Is Scholesy still on here?

I would certainly prefer Sneijder over Modric but Modric won't be bad.

Sniej has the edge over Modric because of his set pieces and is obviously more of a goal threat but i think SAF will go for someone who has been proven in our league and it should be easy negotiations with Levy and spurs than with Inter.

That doesn't happen in Football Manager.

If this was Football Manager, Fergie would just add himself as Tottenham manager and get him for nothing.

I predicted this signing two summers ago. He is the perfect signing for us.

Yeah, agreed. Don't know how FM works either but you can't just tot up a massive list of surplus players, estimate values for them and ship them all on in a single summer. Spuds will do well to move on half that list of dead-wood and chances are that even those they do sell might not seal the deal until the last minute.

Not a frigging chance of raising 40m quid to be spent on transfers just by pruning their squad. Typical GS nonsense.

To be fair, that list contains many players who'd definitely get bids from premiership sides. With so many players being released this year, and a lot of money freeing up, wouldn't be surprised to see them raise 25-30 mil of those players before the last few weeks of the transfer deadline window.

Word out of Stamford Bridge is that Modric wants to sign for Chelsea. Spurs are resigned to it happening, but not till they have sold their season tickets. Fans had till the 22nd of May to renew them, and they are now being offered to the members. They expect there will be news on his arrival within the first 2 weeks of the window opening.

Sorry but how on earth can anyone have that sort of info?

Chelsea need a creative central midfielder actually when you come to think about it. Lampard is close to being finished, Ramires doesn't offer enough, Mikel and Essien aren't particularly creative. Question is, why would they be signing a player when they don't have a manager, whose idea is that then?

What he is missing there is bullet points and some completely weird opinion on their finances that is based on absolutely nothing, with figures pulled out of nowhere, and it would be a classic GlastonSpur.

Out of curiosity, when did any PL club ever raise 40m quid (the sum quoted by GS) in a single summer, just by selling fringe players?

Anyone?

Chelsea might have come close when they flogged the remnants of one of their insane spending sprees but I can't think of any club ever raising anything like that from players as low profile as the those in the original list.

Sorry but how on earth can anyone have that sort of info?

Somebody with connections at Chelsea. They are not always right nobody ever is, but they have a good track record. They were right about Torres and Luiz before everyone picked up on it. They just seem confident that Modric is going to Chelsea, but he was linked to them before he went to Spurs, so Chelsea's interest has been long standing.

Harry: "All of our key players are under contract. The chairman and I have discussed this and we have no intention of selling any of them. .... we are looking to improve the squad in the summer, not weaken it."

Levy: "Having quality players means they automatically attract attention from other clubs .... We shall simply not entertain any approaches for these players".

Resigned to it happening?

If Chelsea or Man. Utd want to waste their transfer window hoping to sign Modric, whilst letting gettable targets slip through their fingers as time ebbs away, then that's their lookout.

You'd best all realise that Modric leaving this summer is a complete non-starter unless, as I said before, an absolutely ludicrous amount of cash is offered .... and amount that is way, way beyond what your owners would countenance.
