Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Would have been a near perfect fit for our midfield.

It starts off ok but by the end loses it's way. He seems to overlook that our most fluid midfield performances post-Keane were with Scholes in the Pirlo role alongside Carrick, and this season where Giggs was alongside him and linking with Rooney.

We wouldn't require Modric to score a lot of goals, it would be more about his distribution of the ball once we had it and his ability to link with Rooney and our other forwards. As for De Rossi, I can't recall the last time I saw him have a great game, he spends most of his time kicking people and throwing elbows these days.

The fact that the agent even mentions a "mystery bid" of £20m means that he's just raising Modric's profile to try and engineer a move. If he was actually saying "he's staying" there would be no need to highlight the 'peanuts' bid.

There are many excellent midfielders around who wouldn't cost us a bomb like Modric would do. One can mention De Rossi, Nasri and Montolivo who has just 1-2 yrs in their contract. I wouldn't mind seeing us signing any one of them.

A good quality established midfielder or two is what we need. Preferably a creative attacking midfielder and a tough tackling midfield hardman.

I can but dream.

Rather we will be disappointed if we don't sign genuine quality to fill up that role and rightly so.

Nah. We may well fill that role with a relatively unknown midfield player. People will be disappointed that it isn't the big name they're craving.

Maybe Fergie see's the replacement being someone we already have at the club.
No. That wont happen either. The notion that SAF won't spend to strengthen his midfield this summer should be perished. It's a matter of on who, not if. He will sign a player or two people know very well. The only contention will be if they like those players or not.

Everything points to no Modric at Old Trafford, which fills me with joy.

No protracted fleecing by Levy for a decent, not outstanding, player.

This smells like the Berb signing, Spurs saying no way, not happening, & Levy protesting all the way to the bank. I like Modric but after taking the Spuds best player twice already recently I would prefer not to do it again.

Stick with what we've got give Cleverley games & fast track Pogba & Morrison.

I guess we'll just wait and see. I can't see it happening though. I'm just looking forward to the big caf meltdown when we sign Charlie Adam.

Please God don't let this happen. Let it be a youngster or a completely unknown player... anyone but Charlie fecking Adam.

I remember browsing through the Berbatov thread the night he signed (was not a member then) and someone posting a gif of 3 players pictures(can't remember which ones) with transfer muppet tossing one off to each player then a picture of Jermaine Jones (as we were linked with him at the time) followed by transfer muppet hanging himself.

The 2011 version can be Modric, Young, Sneijder and Adam

I never imagined when I started this thread less than 6 months ago that it would stretch to well over 1200 posts.

Now that his agent 'claims' he is staying, I'm concerned that I'll end up getting a ban for the biggest ever WUM thread in the transfer forum...:nervous:

It was only a joke, honestly guys, I didn't mean to waste everyone's time. The 'rumour' came from Caughtoffside.com, everyone knows that isn't a reliable source...

Be gentle with me...:(

All this bollocks of "He's not going, honest!" etc just makes me think that there's a strong chance we're going to be getting him.

Don't ask why, just a feeling in my balls.

And yet there are still no takers for my offer of a bet .....

Ferguson won't buy just for the sake of it if he cannot get any of his top targets, especially as he seems to have a lot of faith in the current lot. Scholes departure doesn't really change that much because he hasn't been main man in our midfield for a while.

And if his agent said nothing, you'd say the silence tells us we're going to be getting him.

And if his agent said we're getting him, you'd say we're going to be getting him.

If Levy came out and openly confessed his man-crush for Harry Redknapp, you'd probably say it's a sign of us getting Modric.

My balls tell me we'll sign Charlie Adam or someone comparable. Or no one at all.

This clearly means we're signing Sanchez, Sneijder, Young, Nasri and Rodwell, and SAFs told Levy to feck off with the haggling

If Modric is Fergies target, the least we should do is put in a sizable bid (£34m) to test the waters.

Otherwise, I hope Fergie has someone good planned and we dont end up with someone shit or another promising youngster (those signings in general are fine, but our midfield is calling out for someone established already, not another potential one for the future).

I would also consider putting a similar sized bid in for Schweinsteiger. It wouldnt be the first time a player signed a new deal and was then sold not that long after.

And yet there are still no takers for my offer of a bet .....

I don't think he is good enough to justify the stupid price that Harry and Levy would cave in for. They both have their price!!

I can only hope that SAF feels the same.

Heres a good rumour: Spurs willing to discuss Modric with MUFC if they can have Rio Ferdinand in any deal. No thanks

Taken from badgerwolf himself. Not that that is credible in anyway.

But yeah, if any truth involved, no thank you. I'm resigned to the fact the Modric deal will never come off... well not this summer.

Yeah it wont happen, not saying I'd be totally against it but it wont happen

I dunno, I just find it hard to take someone named 'badgerwolf' seriously; sounds like he should be fighting Sharktopus or somethin'...

Blatant bullshit of course but speaking hypothetically you know what that wouldn't be the worst deal in the world, Rios clearly coming toward the end of his career and his injury problems arent going away still a top class defender yes but these days we're doing well to get half a season out of him, weve just signed Jones, have Vidic and Smalling and if he stays Evans, we're well stocked at centre half where as its quite the opposite in midfield.

Interesting, shame its a shit rumour coming from a blatant nob.

Daily Star: Simply The Best 7 Days A Week :: Football :: Luka Modric in Tottenham quit hint

LUKA MODRIC has dropped another big hint he is ready to quit Tottenham.

Tottenham look set for a huge summer battle to hold on to their star midfielder, who has been linked with some of Europe’s top clubs.

Boss Harry Redknapp insists the Croatian is “irreplaceable” and is determined to keep him.

Modric says he expects to be at Spurs when they return next month ahead of their pre-season tour of South Africa.

But he refused to rule out leaving before the end of the summer transfer window. He said: “I’m a Tottenham player and will be in London on July 7 to begin preparing for the season.

“But I want to say that transfers could occur later. In England it is often the case they happen on the last day of the transfer period, August 31.

“So it is pointless to worry about anything now. “If my situation changes after the start of preparation it would not be a problem.”

Only last year, Modric signed a new deal tying him to Spurs until 2016. But a host of clubs are ready to test his desire to stay at White Hart Lane after Spurs failed to secure another season of Champions League football.

Modric has made it clear he wants to keep playing in the competition since the end of the season. He also admitted a “transfer is of course possible” if Spurs receive a big offer.

Manchester United head the list of clubs keen on the Croatian star. Old Trafford chief Sir Alex Ferguson is a long-term admirer of the 25-year-old.

And he is now ready set to step up his interest as he looks for a successor to Paul Scholes, who retired last week.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter Milan have also been linked with the pint-sized playmaker.

Cocks out?

No. That doesn't even give me a semi. I've nothing to back it up but I've no doubt we won't sign Modric.

It's a bit like Ronaldo's "Only God knows" quotes, in my opinion.

I'd be surprised if he stayed at Spurs beyond next summer.

It's a bit crafty that's for sure

'But the transfer window is open longer than that.'
