Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

It's a bit crafty that's for sure

'But the transfer window is open longer than that.'

Apparently City are in for him too. Which target have we had that City haven't jumped on so far this summer? Maybe they have so much money because they just don't use a scouting system. They just try to sign whoever we're interested in.

Tbh I think Spurs would hold out for a ridiculous fee which I can't see us paying.

The only way I can see us getting Modric would be if Berbatov went the other way. Not saying it's likely.

On top of not being likely, can you imagine the disapproval from the spurs fans? They've developed a hatred for Berba since he left them, and I cant imagine they'd be too pleased having him back, at least at first. Especially in exchange for Modric, who is their best player in my opinion.

They're crying out for a striker so they'd just have to get used to it.

It certainly wouldn't bother Harry (Portsmouth-Southampton-Portsmouth himself) who has brought back Keane, Defoe, Kaboul and Chimbonda in his time at Spurs.

Fair point ;)

The irony in 'Arry complaining about the unwanted attention of Modric from other clubs, when he dry-humps other players that takes his fancy.... the mind boggles.

Redknapp on Levy: "It's fair to say he's not happy about the unwanted attention and continuing speculation surrounding Luka."

That connects to one article I read, claiming that Levy is considering reporting various clubs (United, City etc) to the FA.

Didn't they report us & Liverpool when we signed Berba & they got Keane?

Anyway, it's a bit stupid to report other clubs for admiring your player when your own idiotic manager is always on TV talking about signing other players & how much he loves them.

I fecking hate Levy, you only have to breath near him and he'd have a restraining order on you.

Yeah, I believe you're right, mate. The report-approach was swiftly abandoned once Levy got the money he wanted for Berbatov.

I don't doubt that Spurs would prefer to keep Modric but - seeing as we usually get Spurs 'targets' that we try to sign - one never knows whether Levy's supposed hardline approach is just a smokescreen to appease Tottenham fans before the inevitable.

Wage war! Chelsea ready to nearly treble Luka Modric's salary...and tempt Tottenham with Didier Drogba

Chelsea are ready to up the ante in their pursuit of Tottenham's Luka Modric with the Blues prepared to offer the playmaker £130,000 a week – nearly triple his £50,000 salary at White Hart Lane.

Spurs have stressed their desire not to sell Modric, who was voted the clubs player–of-the-year last season, but Chelsea are reportedly ready to test their resolve by throwing in Didier Drogba as a makeweight to any deal.

The west London club ended last season without a trophy and are looking to add creativity to their squad, with the £30million-rated Croatian the top target along with a full-back and a winger, according to the Sun.

An insider said: 'Not having a manager yet won't slow anything down. 'There's a hitlist of players to sign and Modric is right at the top of it.'

The 25-year-old has three years to run on his current deal at White Hart Lane but has not ruled out a move away, stating his desire to continue playing in the Champions League after featuring prominently in the club's European run last season.

With Manchester United and Manchester City also interested, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp this week claimed Spurs must resist bids for Modric if the club want to progress.

He said: 'For sure we can keep Luka (Modric), he's a special player and we have to keep Luka Modric. If we sell Luka we are just a selling club basically.

'Manchester United won't sell Wayne Rooney, Chelsea won't go and sell Lampard or Terry and you never hear people talk about them getting sold so why should we sell Luka Modric if we are trying to be a big club.'

Redknapp though has been a long-term admirer of Drogba and after a season where his strikers underperformed badly, would be keen to add the 33-year-old to his ranks.

The Ivorian outshone £50million Fernando Torres last season at Chelsea, but the Blues see Modric as the key to coaxing the best out of the Spaniard which could limit Drogba's first-team chances.

I doubt Drogba will want to go to Tottenham.. I doubt Berbatov would either (but its more likely than Drogba surely)

Perhaps not having a manager won't slow things down ... at least not until the vehicle which carries their hopes of signing Modric hits the brickwall and becomes a total write-off.

What makes you so sure? If any of intereted teams puts a bid high enough, they will get him. He will leave sooner or later because he is a top player and he will want to win trophies.

"Sooner or later" means next summer at the earliest and only then IF Spurs don't finish in the top 4 this coming season.

The only exception will be IF crazy money is offered for him, which, as I've already said, in my view means something more than 50m.

He will leave even if you make it to CL sooner or later, making it to CL is different from winning it and in the end he will want to do the latter. I agree it will take crazy money to get him, although I expect it to be £35m+. I also expect him to stat at Tottenham this year as I don't think United can afford him.

I think Glaston needs a reality check as to where Spurs stand in the big boys table, top players want more than an outside shot at finishing 4th in the league especially when they're about to reach their peak.
My view is that Modric won't be sold this summer - so it won't be long we discover whose "reality" - yours or mine - is in greater need of checking.

I don't understand Spurs. I think they have a lot of work to do and they seem to be focussing on the wrong things personally.
