This also concerns me. If these insurrectionists think they are going to get the kid glove treatment again they are in for a rude awakening. They killed a cop, and not just killed him, but beat him to death. If they feel emboldened by their stroll through the capitol they might be surprised to see what the sequel looks like.
Personally I don’t trust the Police or the IC to stop a serious terrorist attack right now. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if a far right wing terrorist was holding a senior law enforcement position and helped plot or facilitate something really nasty.

I don't think that was ever a possibility. The US military is traditionally aloof when it comes to matters of politics. Family/friends who are veterans, even the Trumpers, were adamant that the military has no place in any of this. Hopefully that is the mindset of active duty as well.

It's a discussion from a few pages ago now, but: I think the problem might also be that they don't understand capitalism. I would guess that they think that the US has a purely capitalist economy in place, and that hence anything to limit it is socialism. Obviously, that's false; European countries and the US all have capitalist systems with government interventions to curb its worst excesses (like regarding child labour), it's just that the interventions have different extents. If they understood that every country on the world is somewhere on a scale between full capitalism and full socialism, and that even the US is nowhere the capitalist end point, they might appreciate the discussion better.
Not sure how that could be achieved though. Obviously, these people are already too invested in the narrative they now believe in, and it works better for GOP politicians to stoke that narrative.
