A people's Revolution

That's non sense to be fair. A lot of problems that plague India today are not much different than what likes of US faced after the same number of years of their independence. Let's not forget that they had a full blown civil war as a democratic nation. Not to mention for a long time slavery was legal, and women and blacks had limited rights. Again all that when they were already a democracy.

Only problem with India is that we seem to lack any leaders with strong convictions to lead reforms in much needed areas like corruption. US had people like Lincoln, MLK to help them overcome such issues, it is hard to see anyone like that cropping up in India anytime soon.

I agree partly to your post that we need leaders with strong values to set right the wrong. But we need many more things, some of the problems that India face today could be similar to the Civil war and Slavery, but with the technology advancements and social standards, some parts of India are in the Jurassic age. I've read your posts in the CE section before and I do share similar views with you, but I think the point still stands. Some of us are not yet ready for democracy. In this age of vote bank politics, and with the huge population of India, leaders with strong convictions could be tossed aside by mob mentality.

We are a flawed democracy but then people in US will tell you that their's flawed as well given the massive influence of business and lobby groups. Same goes for some European countries like Italy for one reason or another.
I don't know if democracy will succeed in India or not. I guess an argument can be made right now that it is already failing or possibly has already failed. But I fail to see how any other system can succeed in India. People who long for dictators and such are morons.

While I don't know the alternative of democracy, my point is that there are very significant indicators that our democracy is failing.

It's not even a question that some of the nations are not yet ready for democracy. I'm an Indian and I strongly think there is so much diversity in our country that many regions are not even ready for military rule, never mind fecking democracy. The success stories of metros and Information Technology should not mask the shameful acceptance of bribe in our economy. I should advise people to travel more and see the real life issues instead of advocating blanket democracy.

That's an idiot's comment if I ever saw one. So if they're "not even ready for military rule," what are you advocating? Hereditary monarchy?

Only one i can recall is indira gandhi.

And in a democracy the politicians are always a reflection of the society at large, the netas sitting inside parliament are the perfect reflection of how our society is. Politicians dont get corrupt after being elected..they're already corrupted long before entering politics thus the society is to blame rather than the system.

I was making a point by exaggerating. There are a few regions in India which are so backward and mired in social, economic mess that democracy would be reduced to a joke. Is it hard to understand?

"They violated every inch of my body"- Egyptian women speak about sexual attacks

Source: Human Rights Watch - Thu, 4 Jul 2013 10:02 AM
Author: Human Rights Watch

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Egyptian mobs sexually assaulted and in some cases raped at least 91 women in Cairo's Tahrir Square over four days of protests calling for President Mohamed Mursi to step down, Human Rights Watch said.
One woman needed surgery after being raped with a sharp object. Other women were beaten with metal chains, sticks, and chairs, and attacked with knives. In some cases they were assaulted for as long as 45 minutes before they were able to escape.
“The rampant sexual attacks during the Tahrir Square protests highlight the failure of the government and all political parties to face up to the violence that women in Egypt experience on a daily basis in public spaces,” said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch, in a statement.
In a video produced by the U.S.-based rights watchdog, several women describe their experience of being sexually attacked in a country that is becoming notorious for the sexual harassment of its women.
Egypt's army ousted Mursi on Thursday in a crackdown on his Muslim Brotherhood movement that won several elections last year. The clock started ticking for Mursi when millions took to the streets on Sunday to demand he resign. They accused the Brotherhood of hijacking the revolution, entrenching its power and - critically for many - failing to revive the economy.
Yikes....and these were progressive protestors.

wouldn't mind them getting a good beating. fundamentalists must be fought at every gali-nukkad-mohalla.

Sinai is on fire. Clashes between the Egyptian army and armed mobs. Reports of Palestinian gunmen joining in the MB demonstrators. Other reports state that the Egyption army managed to block 90% of the Rafah tunnels connecting the Gaza Strip and Sinai.

Some inaccuracies but you'll get the gist

From an Egyptian living int he states:

A lot of my American friends still ask me what happened in Egypt, for their benefit, and anyone else on earth genuinely trying to make heads or tails of us here's what happened in Egypt but expressed in "American" terms...

( for my Egyptian friends please add objectively and spread)

On June 30th 2012, democratically elected Barack Obama wins the election with 51.7%, takes the oath, and is sworn in as president of the United States.

First five months of his term go peacefully, where he makes almost no decisions (except for some dubious presidential pardons to a dozen convicted terrorists, including some convicted for their part in the assassination of a former US President). Some of those terrorists appear publicly with the ruling party in various public events.

Suddenly. on November 21st 2012, president Obama issues a presidential decree giving himself sweeping powers, to the extent that his future decrees become un-contestable in any court, in effect his decisions henceforth are akin to the word of God.

Nationwide protests erupt as a result of this decree and 1.5 million people organize a sit-in at the White House to peacefully request he rescind it.

Some of Obama's democratic party supporters attack the peaceful sit-in outside the White House with guns & shoot 5 peaceful protesters dead. Attacks are well documented and are indisputable.

A few weeks later president Obama dissolves the US Supreme Court and labels them all "traitors to America"

One short week later, he fires the United States District Attorney and personally appoints a Democrat to replace him against the constitution that doesn't give him that right.

A month later he annuls the US Constitution and forms a 'constitutional committee' to draft a new constitution (committee includes no Republicans or Independents, no Moslems or Jews, and only a handful of women.. And is composed primarily of Democrats & religious preachers. ( a number of preachers don't even have a High school diploma ! While constitutional Court experts that participated in writing the constitutions of Turkey, South Africa etc.. Are not included )

In a referendum not supervised by any judicial branch, this constitution narrowly wins, and President Obama ratifies it the very next morning (despite it having only gotten the approval of 18% of all Americans). Wide Nation protest take place requesting President Obama to suspend this unlawful constitution.

Within a month he invites top global terrorists, known jihadists and Al Qaeda members from all over the world, to a rally in Yankee stadium, where he cuts ties with and declares war on, Canada. The foreign Ministry is not consulted neither the Army. It is strongly believed the decision was made spontaneously by president Obama while giving the speech.

Throughout this whole time, the US economy is sinking, the stock market lost 1/3 of its value .foreign investment has all but stopped, tourism has died, and electricity, fuel, and water shortages are a daily occurrence.

Unemployment has almost doubled, and the US$ dollar has lost 30% of its value globally.

Oh, and president Obama also outlines his new plans to lease all National Parks to North Korea for the next 50 years.

Democratically elected president Barack Obama has done all the above in his FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE!!!

President Obama is repeatedly warned by the chairmen of the joint chief of staff general Dempsey that his actions are unconstitutional, that he had marginalized the minorities and created a sectarian rift and that opposition leaders are slowly but surely are withdrawing from the political process because Mr. Obama and his party failed to fulfill any of their promises.

One week before June 30 General Dempsey makes a public announcement that USA is at a dangerous place and president Obama and his party need to find a compromise with opposition leaders and Egyptian people and find a solution to the political standstill. In response to the warning president Obama gives a defiant speech , and secretly orders the arrest of all opposition leaders, the arrest and closure of major TV channels. His Party supporters threaten with violence on the streets and bloodshed if Egyptian people dare to protest on the streets and demand Early Elections.

Ultimately, on June 30th, 2013...

An enormous , unthinkably huge, and by all account to the largest I. America history number of Americans take to the streets in 50 States peacefully and politely demanding early presidential elections. Mr. Obama refuses ... And insists that he has the right to continue presidency for three years....

That's it in a nutshell

( while all those events were unfolding president Obama was under investigation by a criminal court for running away from prison. He is requested to Appear in court to be questioned regarding the circumstances surrounding his escape from prison , during which 420 innocent inmates were killed. There is strong evidence that his party used Mexican Cartels to free themselves. There is strong circumstantial evidence linking both to the events. There are also strong ties between Obama and the cartels. Many of his party members have businesses and close family relationships with the cartels)

Who would you say had "legitimacy" in this case if it had been America?

Inaccuracies:
  1. Supreme court was not dissolved, but it was subjected to a siege by the MB during the Nov/Dec sit ins and protests against the issued dictatorial decree.
  2. 32% showed up for the constitution referendum, not 18%.
  3. The Canada part, he's talking about Syria. Morsy didn't declare war but did cut the ties -without going back to the National Security Council with MB's main aim was to energize and mobilize the Salafi base prior to the planned June 30 protests. Salafis hate Shias more than Israel- and his cronies did call for Jihad in Syria.

Can we laugh at Egypt yet? Army Head getting on national tv and begging for anti Muslim brotherhood protests...

Repeatedly using the word terrorism - think there is a 'anti-terrorism' campaign coming up soon and MB people are going to be f-ed over pretty good.

If I come across any livestreams of Egypt, today, I will post here.

I'm not so sure too many people miss me here at the CAF. I'm working on several other news sites and organizing activist events.

No Mr. Neutral, I personally do not find it amusing that Morsi screwed up so badly. Now, the puppet leaders of the Army are feeding the chaos with rhetoric that sounds like it's coming straight from the US State Dept. There has got to be a better way to deal with it, other than asking people to slug it out in the town square.

Sisi asking people to protest in support of him and now calling the MB supporters terrorists.

(CNN) -- Rival rallies in and around Cairo ran into Saturday, with some celebrating the jailing of deposed Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy, and others angrily demanding his return to power.
The death toll from overnight clashes jumped to 75, state news agency MENA reported, citing medical workers at a field hospital.
Jesus - that's a pretty big number, vast majority of the dead are MB supporters - they really should go home. No way, the Army backs down, and 'secularists' seem to be enjoying this...so there will be no condemnation or support.
You had your chance, things didn't work out...maybe you can try again in another 80 years.
