In a similar contract situation as Rooney. If we could get him on the cheap we could have a good left winger for good value.

If we sign another winger I would prefer it to be a left footed left winger. If we want a right footer out on the left I would prefer we stick with Nani than sign Young (once Valencia is back)

No thanks, he's as one-dimensional, overrated, and one-trick pony as it gets. If it wasn't for his passport he'd be judged objectively an fairly...he's not all that.

We're not in the business of buying players for buying sake.

True. But value in the market is Sir Alex's term not mine. He is pacy, has good set piece skills and has a smallish head like Nani. We're onto a winner here people.

How on earth does anyone get the impression that Ashley Young would be cheap!? Madness.

No offence like.

Joined right after the treble.

Pffft, fecking glory hunter.

I am a gloryhunter. After I was deprived of glory from late seventies through the eighties bar some magnificent cup runs playing on road to wembley. :D

There's been a solid stream of press grumblings that we're after him. I honestly don't know why we would be after him though.

He's a good player, would do better at a better club, I personally liked him a few years back when his potential was off the roof, anyways would cost us too much cause he's "english", he plays for villa, and that we're Manchester United. The only positive bit on any transfer would be that his contract is winding down and is supposedly waiting to see how things at Villa end out, before signing a new one.

No?

I don't really think that much of him, don't think we need him and there are surely better, cheaper options out there if we did need him.

Gerard Houllier has revealed today that the club would consider selling England starlet Ashley Young for the right price.

Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer of Young who has 18 months left to run on his current deal. Young is reportedly disillusioned with Villa’s renewed lack of aspiration and could follow fellow Englishman Gareth Barry and James Milner out of the club.

Houllier admitted: "In January the best clubs keep their best players but you never know if someone comes with crazy money.

"We hope to keep him and he knows that the club's will is to keep him.”

Seems like i'm the only one that likes him. Not worth £25m or whatever hes being quoted, or even the £18m Spurs paid for Bentley, but i'd definitely have Young here.

translation:

"We could do with some money; are you listening city?"

I think he would probably look better in a better team he never really gets any space playing for villa because it's fairly obvious he's their most creative player so teams pay more attention to him but if he was in a team with other threats he would get a lot more space and could be very effective. I don't think he will ever be a world beater but could be extremely effective in a stronger team.

Young will give you electric pace and dangerous crossing on teh left and the odd goal too and would do better at a bigger club but his signing would definitely not be as exciting as a Bale or a Hazard!!
