Alex Salmond and Independence

When can I expect my vote to be independent from Scotland? ;)

Together is better. Common sense prevailed.

All of England should now vote whether to keep the scots in the country or kick them out.

How about giving every English person a brick and the ones that don't want Scotland can start to rebuild the wall? The others can keep the brick.

Wow, really?

Didn't expect that (not really followed the campaign, I have to say). Mel Gibson fought and died for independence and you just turn it away like that. SMH. You should be ashamed of yerselves.

Life's work come to nothing. Get oot the whaskee Alex.

Not really a surprise, in the past few years all the polls have said No except like one or two in the last couple of weeks, even though the Yes vote would always have been the most vocal and if people were undecided they'd probably go for No. Yes would have needed a decent lead for the past few weeks to have stood a chance.

Better this way anyway, we're stronger together, hopefully it instigates some needed changes though.

I'm all for Scotland having devolutionary powers. I'm all for places like London, Manchester and Cornwall having those same powers.

But Kent I think, should neither have its own government, nor be part of London. I hope they have a rEngland she tion, of maybe just rSouth.

He's achieved a lot. He will have a lot motte power if he is first minister next term
Yes, and that's all he's interested in. More power for Eck. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a sizeable backlash against him. I know a lot of people who voted for independence but can't stand the sight of him.

Now Scotland,

Walls won't stop us. We eat walls. Munchmunchmunch.

So with the final result in, only 4 councils out of 32 actually had a 'yes' majority.

They never wanted to break free obviously. It was all an excercise in attention seeking. Or tourism marketing perhaps.

The truth of the matter is that just like the rest of us, the Scots aren't gullible enough to be fooled by a fraud and shyster. They saw through his bluster and bullying.

Bit of an anti-climax for me as I was kind of looking forward to seeing how Salmond kept those unrealistic promises he made but I guess his lies and refusal to answer the important questions cost him in the end with more people having the sense to see through him than there were taken in by him.

Good to see that Scottish MPs will no longer have a say in laws that only apply to England.

You are being slightly unfair as there was a big number of 'Yes' voters who's vote had nothing to do with Salmond. Salmond's role in Independence was quite small really as the question Independence I think runs a lot deeper than 'Do you trust Alex Salmond'.

Part of me wanted to see Scotland implode, but I honestly think this result will be to the benefit of both Scotland and the Union. It's a win-win.

I would challenge the notion that Salmond's role was "really quite small" - last night was what he's been working for all his political life. It was he who instigated the referendum.

I'm well aware that a lot of Yes voters don't like Salmond. Their dislike and mistrust of him, however, didn't affect their desire for independence. That's fair enough. Maybe they saw through his lies as well.

What I'm saying is that Scots in general weren't fooled by him - and that includes both Yes and No.

I'm pleased to hear Cameron say "millions of voices of England must also be heard" and "A vital part of that will be a balanced settlement - fair to people in Scotland and importantly to everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as well.

Personally I think we should have a Federal setup - each country in control of its own taxation and spending, health, education etc etc with only major issues like defence, foreign policy etc dealt with by a central parliament. That would meet everyone's aspirations.
