Anderson

Best game for a very long time today. Looked calm and incisive on the ball, and his decision making was much better. Obviously the fitness is an issue, but performance wise today he was impressive. No idea what some of you lot see

He was very good today, but the problem he had was Dembele plays a similar game to Anderson in my view, and despite how good Ando looked, Dembele stole the show in every department.

In the midfield beast competition today, there was simply no comparison! Pleased to see Ando back, but it's hard not to be far more impressed with Dembele's performance today!

Only properly watched the first 75 mins but I thought he was good in the first half. Some great driving runs which are required to stop us falling into the "passing it back and forth between midfield and defence" cycle.

Basically he needs to be for us what Dembele is for Fulham.

I agree about Dembele being the more impressive. But then you'd expect that of him, with the space we left open for him to burst into and both our full backs complete lack of knowing when to dive in and when to stand. He's a very dynamic player, something I think Anderson COULD become but i also feel he could be a very useful short and quick tempo changer.

Or what he was when he beasted Gerrard at Anfield in his debut season. Anderson's got all the gifts if he just gets it all together and is paired with someone he can bounce off of he can be that player again. We saw it at the start of last season, we saw it the year before prior to his injury when we were smashing Blackburn 7-1 and he was running midfield. If he gets an extended run in the side with someone like Cleverley who will do pass and move with him I believe that Ando can realise the potential everyone knows he's got.

It was even when he had no space though, he was still able to keep possession and create space for himself that i was so impressed with.

If our midfield closed him down he went past them, if they stayed off him he ran at them. No wonder they didn't know what to do with him in the end!

Anderson did really well but he had far more time on the ball than Dembele, which only highlights how impressive Dembele was even though his team had far less possession. The majority of the possession Fulham actually did enjoy, was a direct result of Dembele's ability on the ball!

When we fell back Dembele shined, when we were on top he wasn't to be seen, didn't really impress me

He put his bulk for good use today. And there were some really nice strings of passes too. I just hope he don't go off the boil in the coming two months.

Thing is he obviously works well with Clev but I think they're quite open to the counter as both leave space it means they have to do a lot of chasing back. Will need to work on his fitness if they end up playing more. Hopefully though they'll learn how to strike a better balance between pushing on and sitting back, if so he might conserve his energy better and play at a higher level over the whole 90.

He got rid of overhit the Anderson hollywood through balls, played it simple and sensible. Worked hard in defence.

Was good, just needs to get his fitness to a decent level. Saw him looking very tired a couple of times.

He was really good in parts today I thought, rarely wasted possession and played some good passes wide.

Couldn't get a hold on Dembele though, and also was prone to making a few silly errors, like in the second half about 40 yards from our goal where he sloppily lost possession and was tackled.

Only thing I would say about today aside from his drop off in the second half is that this was an open game with lots of space and I think these are the sorts of games where Ando will look better when he's on the ball. It's the games where teams set up more conservatively and we have to be patient that he's struggled in, in the past. Hopefully he can keep fit and show the sort of performance he did in the first half in a tighter game. That would be a real positive for me.

Think Anderson is getting a lot of unfair reviews following Dembélé's performance. We have to consider that Anderson's had relatively little competitive football. In that context, this was a good performance, and he'll improve as he gets matches.

Unfortunately, as evidenced by the Dembélé thread in the Transfer Forum, most United fans are prepared to pretend Anderson was massively inferior as it suits their agenda. Quite sad.

The Dembele thread does not read well for Anderson. Everyone wants him out the door.

I will be very sad if he leaves

to be honest, I can understand some fans getting a bit fatiqued with Ando. He has been here for quite some time now and each season its...."he has to prove himself this season..." "has to step up..." "..fulfill his promise" etc etc. Well, he has yet to do that and no one can say he isn't being given the chance. He played well yesterday which was such a relief, but lets see what the situation with him is after ten games have passed. Also..all this talk about his fitness...feck me, he's paid thousands of pounds a week, is a top professional, has great training regimes...the bugger should be fit for goodness sake....There is no excuse for a lack of fittness at the start of the season.

It was his first start of the season, and taken in isolation (i.e. without wishing we had Dembélé instead) it was a good performance. I don't think there's any doubt that once he has a few games under his belt, he'll improve further.

It's unrealistic to think that all players will look fully sharp just because it's the start of the season. Some players - look at Rooney and Vidić as examples - need a run of games to get their rhythm. Anderson is of the same ilk.

I wish people would apply a bit of balance. Despite a few nice slaloming runs from Dembélé, it was only a competitive game because of some shoddy United defending.

Wanting Anderson out is a classic case of agenda posting. People are that bewitched by the idea of getting Dembélé that they're being massively over critical of Anderson's performance.

I think fans are desperate for Ando to succeed no matter what knee-jerk reactions are on here. I'm one of them.

As I mentioned...I think we should wait ten games or so before any judgements on Ando can be made this season, that is if he lasts the ten games without getting injured!

Exactly. It was his first start for goodness sake. And it was pretty decent.

I actually think Anderson has been shown a lot more patience over the years than the likes of Fletcher, JOS and Evans.

How good of us! Showing patience to our young players, aren't we a nice bunch?

Sorry for the facetious tone, but all your post shows is how patience is important. Look how Fletcher matured before his problems. Most United fans wanted Evans out, look how good a season he had last year.

Whenever Anderson has been injury free, he's had good spells of form. People are revising history to suit their agendas, suggesting that he's basically never done it. Untrue.

Now we're getting most fans saying they want rid on the basis of one start, where he actually played well overall, because they're so desperate to sign the latest in vogue player.

I'm so fecking irritated. Wish I hadn't logged on this morning.

 i here ya on the last sentence. Imhaving to defend Welbecks existence in another thread!

Theres patience and theres also a point where it becomes make or break for a player. I think this season we've reached that point with Anderson. Theres lots to like about Anderson when fully fit and on form. My worry is when he isnt at the races his level of contribution/bottom level is very poor. We need to see genuine consistency this season or I fear it'll be his last.

He completed 95% of his passes yesterday and, crucially, attempted much more of them than he has done during some of his poor performances for United. Right now, we can't expect much more as he might have had a full pre-season but - unlike most of the team - there was no base fitness having missed almost the whole of last season. Vidic is looking a shadow of his former self for the same reasons yet you don't see the same criticisms of his fitness as Anderson is getting today. All about agendas on here, as usual.

I think Anderson had a very good game yesterday, except for one error where he lost the ball to Ruiz (?) in a dangerous area. That one pass of his from the left, going out of camera and fell down on the foot of Rafael (?)

What should have been a load of positives about his performances based on the above, instead it's the usual bollocks without even a hint of context. I'm really not sure what a lot of peoples expectations are, but they seem very unrealistic.

I thought he played rather well last night. Him and cleverley have started to gel as a partnership once again which is promising. Hopefully they both can stay fit and are able to work together more. I get the feeling the longer they play with each other the better both will get and defending side should improve as their understanding gets better and better.

I agree that it's reached the stage where he now has to do it. I understand that he's had a number of years here, and he needs to establish himself. I have no problems with posters who hold such a view.

What does my head in is that I've logged on, and people are saying we need to flog the fella on the basis of his first competitive game in ages, where he actually played quite well!

I'd struggle to understand the knee-jerking if he had played poorly, because it was only his first game. But the mind boggles at the fact that he's taking stick despite doing reasonably well.

I truly believe he's one of those players who will look better and better with a run of games. He's not the sort of player who will be able to come in after an absence and be sharp straight away.

This, this and this.

Right, off to watch Stoke batter Arsenal.

Very very good.

The only problem i had was the ridiculously high long pass he made, that was actually perfect in the end. It was just so fecking high. But the full back was so far away from the lad who took it down, that it was okay. ridiculously high tho

He was very good, people won't be happy until he scores 15 goals in a season and starts to boss the middle like Yaya Toure.

well thats what we need isnt it ?

A player like that and we are set.
