Anderson

Aside from his occasionally wild passing he was brilliant today. We haven't had someone who breaks so purposefully from midfield while in possession in a few years. More of the same please.

Every match, he's getting closer and closer to score... Needs to practice finishing with his right foot and he'll be a deadliest midfield weapon in Premiership.

Best years ahead of him.

He was very good today. His forward runs combined with intelligent passing opened up the Sunderland defense on more than one occasion. However, I do think that there are a few kinks that he needs to iron out, most notably not getting too excited when near the 18 yard box - he often messes up the simplest of passes there. But other than that he was excellent; the progress he has made in the few weeks is very promising.

Also, I find it interesting that with Carrick as his midfield partner, you would expect Ando to play further forward and Carrick to sit on top of the defense. This was the case only about half the time.. on many of our attacks, I saw Anderson near the halfway line whereas Carrick was making forward runs (especially during our counter attacks), often into the 18 yard box (something which we don't usually see Carrick do). Thought it was odd, but I'm not complaining...

He plays a lot more wiser than in his Porto days and he didn't lost his acceleration because of injuries.

Being patient on him is paying off.

Dare i say it and of course hes a way to go but he could be our version of Iniesta in midfield in time, very similar attributes in terms of his ability to dribble from centre midfield and open up defences with great vision.

Will never be as skilful as Iniesta but he's a damn sight stronger and more physical.

Dunno who he most reminds me of tbh but it's someone good.

The problem he's had in the past with his passing is that, whilst clearly capable, he seemed to overhit a hell of a lot. My personal theory was that he was trying "Hollywood" balls virtually everytime he got the ball. Whilst an attack-minded passer should be lauded, the very best passing midfielders play their fair share of percentage passes and wait for the most suitable opening - watch how many sideways and backwards passes Xavi makes. There is a negative perception amongst fans and commentators about players who play such conservative passes regularly, but it's key to keeping possession. The fact that such passers are viewed so negatively in this country probably goes some way to explaining why English players are so hopeless at retaining the ball - they're always too keen to launch it into an attacking area at the earliest opportunity, even if a pass isn't on. Anyway, I digress...

Basically, that was just a long winded way of saying that Anderson seems to have added a necessary conservatism to his passing - the penetrative passes are still there, but he's just not trying to do it everytime.

He always was a real player in the making.

He's got a similar bullishness to Edgar Davids - left footed too. Far more quality on the ball though, has our Ando.

I was not impressed by his Ronaldinho pass either. That strikes me as arrogance, and he has not done enough to be an arrogant player yet.

But yes, it was a good performance by Anderson. I think he has displaced Fletcher on current form. I hope he can continue to play well.

Scholesy MkII.

It's called confidence and it's something he's been lauded for by Sir Alex and your boy Carrick right from the beginning of his career - it's going to be a big part of what makes him a special player.

It's embarrassing how some people on here absolutely refuse to admit they were wrong about a player - Anderson and Berbatov being the two players at the moment for certain people.

on Berba's second goal was that a no look pass he gave him looked like it.

It's good that he can perform like this in a two man midfield, loved the blind pass.

His ability to play in a two will require an improvement in stamina - something we'll hopefully see with a run of games and an injury free spell. It also requires him to show some maturity in terms of tracking runs from midfield - something he's getting better at, but not natural at.

It's looking good with the lad though.

A hybrid of Edgar Davids and Iniesta would be fine by me. He has the formers style of play and the way he moves with the ball but the role he can play for us at his best is similar to Iniesta.

Yeh, I suppose that sounds like a decent-ish sort of player. :)

Nani-esque in his recent resurgence to form, possibly the best he has displayed in his career with so far.

Things seem to be taking shape nicely. He certainly passes all the component skills to develop into a Davids type midfielder and if he can reach those levels, then we really have a rosy time ahead in the centre of midfield.

Certainly with the likes of Carrick and Fletcher around for the next few years to do some of his donkey work for him, the time is right for him to now blossom and stamp his personality and style within the DNA of this new emerging side. Exciting times for our tubby tackler.

When Giggs destroyed Chelsea playing in central midfield a few seasons ago, I mentioned that this is what Anderson will play like in the future. Its taken a while but now he really looks like it. I think Giggs in central midfield is maybe a better comparison as Iniesta is a better ball retainer. But I can still see where you're coming from

He is finally filling his mad potential, but patience is the key. He is still only 22 and we must stick by him, I was getting probably a bit over excited in the match day thread about him, he still has a way to go. He has shown consistency in his last few outings which is the key at his age, it's breathing confidence into him which is wonderful.

He has left a few players in his wake over the last few weeks such as Wilshere and Henderson today (weakened Sunderland team in fairness) but he must be an opposing midfield nightmare because he has so many facets to his game. I just hope the caf will give him the same level of support if he dips a bit in form but for the moment it's all looking rosy.

It's a reflection of how good Iniesta could be that he can not only dictate a game, but also play the Giggs role you described.

Saying that, Anderson's got everything in his locker to be unbelievable. It was an inspired decision to mould him into a central midfielder, as opposed to this flashy Ronaldinho-esque player we all thought we were getting. It makes full use of his attributes.

Not that it matters though, as long as the manager is giving him the support he needs.

It's frigging pathetic is what it is, Anderson is having an absolute revelation in his game in recent times and some people are too worried about the fact that they're being proved wrong to kick back and enjoy it, sad bastards.

You're missing out on a fantastically enjoyable part of the game, lads, sucks to be you.

I only saw the MOTD short highlights but I am glad he had another good game, taken off earlier because of the Tuesday game?

Yup, not exactly chuffed to be coming off early either.

He is on very good form but has some major stamina problems, i saw him on many occasions just watching as the opposition was in our helf just near him. and he constantly gets subbed after about an hour.

If he can improve his stamina, he will be even better, oh a bit of right foot would be a bonus too. :)

Finally the consistency is beginning to show in his game and there are just signs that he might even start to discover the goal touch. Good signs ahead if he keeps working hard. SAF obviously trusts the boy again and he's repaying the boss with some solid performances.

Comparisons to Iniesta are a bit daft at this stage though...but in a few years, who knows. We can only hope.
