Saying that's he's not good enough is way too harsh.

He clearly has the talent in abundance but his constant injuries and seemingly unwillingness to actually stop being fat are slowly but surely ruining his career at this club. If he's gone for the entire season now then the future is very bleak.

Agree with this. Clearly he's talented, but talent itself doesn't make a player and it seems like he's just not trying hard enough to make a name for himself at the club of United stature. Since his debut season he's gone backwards instead of forward and don't think Sir Alex will have much more patience with him.

His passing is erratic, his shooting is awful, he hardly ever sets up or scores goals, he's got no stamina, he's injury prone and he's prone to putting on lots of weight (he looks huge at the moment)

He looked good alongside Cleverly, so he still might make it. Patience has to be wearing thin though.

He played ok the other night but my god he's ballooned!

The more talented a Brazilian footballer is, the fatter he gets when he doesn't play. See Ronaldo, Ronaldhino and Adriano. Pele would be the size of a house if he wasn't constantly ***ping to combat erectile dysfunction!

He's got the talent to make it, but somehow I dont feel that he's got what it takes to use such talent and fulfill his potential. Not to forget also that he's injury prone.

He is lucky to have to compete in one of our weakest CM in SAF's rule. In their prime Keane/Scholes, Robson/Ince or Ince/Keane would have eaten him for breakfast (erm they'll end up obese after that ;) )

Anderson and Cleverley both started the season so brightly, it's a shame both are so injury-prone.

Cleverley may not be. He'd always had a reasonable injury record before this season. If he can get a few games under his belt without getting a niggle I reckon he should be okay.

I don't think we'll be getting rid of him anytime soon. Next season he'll stay relatively injury-free and his performances will make us all thankful that SAF doesn't take advice from redcafe. It has been written.

We all hope so. Unfortunately our 'next year' with Anderson has rather become like Liverpool's 'next year' with the title. He'll never get the consistency if his body doesn't allow him to play regularly.

This thread https://www.redcafe.net/f6/our-best-player-5-years-time-189378/ makes me really miss Anderson from his first year in England. Amazing, injury free player with 38 appearances in one season...

But we all know those 'in five years...' threads.

Here are two line-up predictions for 2008/09 season. Posted in 2003.

Howard - Trabelsi, Ferdinand, van Buyten, O'Shea - Parker, Fletcher - Joaquin, Ronaldo, van der Vaart - van Nistelrooy.

Howard - O'Shea, Ferdinand, Mexes, Silvestre - Fletcher, Djemba-Djemba - Joaquin, Ronaldo, van der Vaart - van Nistelrooy.

Hilariously, somebody says Giggs in that thread as a joke, yet he's still going strong. he's ridiculous

James Ducker from The Times:

"Anderson suffered hamstring injury in training and could now miss rest of season."

Seems he ends this season with only 16 appearances.

It's a shame if he is out, if true though then I think that could spell the end for his time here. He's just not reliable and without getting a lot more games and more consistent runs he'll never develop. He spends half his games easing back into it after the last injury. I don't doubt his quality or ability, I think he could be very good in the right system and with games but I don't think we can afford to keep him around. If we didn't have scholes then maybe we could get away with having a player who might not be fit often but I don't think we can have both of them, certainly not if we want to add a midfielder which we definitely should be doing this summer.

Who the feck would buy him though?

I doubt we'd even get 5m at this stage. That's why I think we'll keep him.

He pulled up in the game against Bilbao. Why did they say he got injured "in training"?

Anyway. Another disappointing season from him. feck's sake.

Yeah I was wondering that too. Maybe he trained after that with a tight hamstring and made it worse?

Tad dramatic there. There will be plenty of takers willing to gamble on his fitness for 10-15m. Especially clubs with new found finances like Malaga or PSG. Don't think we'll sell him though. We've stuck with him this long, might as well go the full distance and hope he stays fit.

What's depressing is that his problems can't be put down to injuries alone. With injury prone players the pattern is usually start off poor, gradually improve, get injured, back to square one. Rinse and repeat.

With Anderson he starts off great, disimproves and then gets injured. It's missing the point somewhat to put down his underwhelming contribution to nothing more than bad luck with injuries.

Who's putting it down to just that?

Have a look at the posts above the one you just quoted.

Not sure anyone is putting it solely down to injures but I do agree with your regarding that pattern. Rather than depending varying as a reaction to the injury (or return from injury) he has some general flaws in his game that just require improvement irrespective. Obviously consistently getting injured is an obstacle to overcoming those flaws.

Where I do think he particularly lacks is dealing with a lack of space. When he's given time on the ball he drives forward really well but in the absence of that seems to panic and lack composure.

I'm at the point to be honest where I have given up. I think we should cut our losses, get as bit of money for him and free up the squad space. He's not the only one either...

Yeh its not just injuries, its consistency too. Its alrite being good at home to Wolves etc but he rarely plays as well away from OT.

He has potential, but my patience is very thin on this now.

If we win the league this year, amazingly, it will be the 6th League title of Anderson's career..................he is 23!

I think that we need to loan him out for a season to prove his fitness and his quality, we need to free up his squad place. If Pogba signs and Scholes stays on for another year then I think that we would only need to sign one player in the summer, a midfielder of significant quality.

We are not going to be able to sell Ando for a good fee this summer. A loan for a season would give him the opportunity to prove himself as a player or to put him in the shop window for a lesser team.

A loan would most likely mean sending him abroad. His English is apparently still awful so if we want a decent fee it would possibly mean some kind of loan to buy option in Spain/Portugal. Never know with him though, could be back in a couple of weeks and put in a storming performance out of nowhere.

You don't loan out a 24-year-old player...

He is 23 as was Diouf last year when he was on loan at Blackburn, you loan out whoever needs loaning out regardless of age!

I concede that we are highly unlikely to do so. I am simply offering my thoughts on the situation. Anderson is taking up a squad space, money on the wage bill and contributing very little. With his recent injury record he is worth very little especially in comparison to our outlay on him.

If he is loaned out he frees up a squad space, he is off the wage bill and has an opportunity to either impress us or a potential buyer. There would be no risk to us and another player with more quality and a better injury record can be brought in.

That pisses me off. He has had enough time sitting on his arse injured to have learnt the language by now.

If thats true, maybe that says a lot for his dedication!

Hardly dramatic at all. What's he done here in his 5 years to suggest he'll be worth a club splashing out 15m on him? There are far more viable options for clubs with wealth like that out there. We'd get 10m at an absolute max, if we're lucky

I hope we don't resort to selling him though

I wouldn't be surprised to see us cut our losses with Anderson and that would be a massive shame :(

why would it be a massive shame?

He hasnt set the world alight and he is constantly injured it would seem.

If he leaves he leaves but I dont see him ever being vital to the team a la keano/scholes etc so I wouldnt be too sad.

Will he ever come good? Every time he starts to show a bit of promise injuries catch up with him and he's out for weeks/months, then loses form, injured again, and now he could be out for the season... I've almost given up completely on him. Next season will be his 6th at the club.
