I wish people would stop harping on about Ando's weight. He's not fat and he's probably thinner than about 80% of the people who criticise his size, people have different body types and Ando is probably a cross between mesomorph and endomorph.

Edit: Home kit actually looks quite classy in that.

Don't think its the weight I'm worried about, he better raise his game ASAP or the likes of Pettrucci, Lindegard and Powell might take his place.

Still looked very rusty, we'll see how he progresses through this tour, mind you I'm not worried at all about pre-season, its when the league starts that his performances will count.

I doubt the majority of them are professional footballers though.

Ando aint that bad.

Regardless, what I'm saying is that just because his body size is bigger, that doesn't necessarily mean it hinders his game.

It does hinder his game though.... the fella can't get seem to get himself into optimum condition. This has been holding him back as he tends to fade in a lot of games as his stamina isn't great for a young, athletic central midfielder and it also leads to him being substituted off more than he has to.

Of course it hinders his game. His stamina is non-existent, he's slower than he should be and less agile than we should expect him to be.

Regardless, what I'm saying is that just because his body size is bigger, that doesn't necessarily mean it hinders his game.

Of course it does. His stamina is virtually non-existent, his agility is doubtful and his acceleration and pace leave a lot to desire as well.

From my point of view, I'd agree, he can be of a larger frame and still be able to perform well and get himself about the pitch, you'd hardly say Rooney was slight and he has a very good engine as it were

Tevez is another who is similar

But I would add, for players of this body-shape, it's even more important that they're not carrying excess weight

But without anything to distract this off-season for Anderson, I'd be certain they'd have him in optimal condition for the start of the season, and that's all that really matters

It's just depressing seeing the same flaws in Anderson's game that we've seen, season after season, when he's not on top of his game. A bit of ring-rust is to be expected but the reason he's getting singled out is because watching him today will have caused flash-backs to all those other games where he keeps trying and failing to play the killer ball while generally being sloppy and careless in possession. Makes it very hard to keep being optimistic about him turning it round this season.

Well he's hardly going to transform his game in the physio room now is he? He needs games. If he stays fit and gets games under his belt he'll turn into a very good player for us.

It's amazing how players are getting dissed for early pre-season form. First Chihcarito now this one.

I'm not talking about his form in terms of how well he's playing in these nothing matches.

What I'm talking about is him consistantly getting himself completely out of shape and carrying too much weight, whenever he has an injury layoff. To me that suggests he isn't working hard enough on his fitness, because I've seen him look a lot fitter than this.

Keepin yourself in top shape, should be the absolute minimum requirement for a United-player. Especially a player who's got a point to prove, as Anderson most certainly does.

I personally don't think he's anything special, but new season = new start, so I hope he proves me wrong and gets a run of consistent good games.

I'm not expecting him to be top drawer all the time but I really hope he does well this year.

Hes our quickest center mid.

"This is a very big season for me," he said, following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town. "In my first three years we won everything; Champions League, Premier League, Carling Cup. But then I suffered a cruciate injury and had a bad problem. I tried to push through it when I came back but it was still sore. Sometimes it was bad and the pain stayed.

"Sometimes you think you might have to change clubs but I love it here. The club has always helped me, as have the other players. I have worked so hard trying to get right."

That's a very big mistake on his part. You really shouldn't "push through" knee problems.
I don't know if he's consulted our medical staff but I imagine they wouldn't have let him play if they knew his condition.

Best of luck to Anderson this season, I really hope he makes it here.

I'm saying my last peice in here now, basically, I think that if he doesn't get injured we are going to have a very good midfielder on our hands who will make a lot of people in this thread look like idiots. If he has another injury filled season that'll be that. He might be kept as a squad player but I'm sure we will be signing a starter for the following season so his chance will have passed.

Time will tell.

I don't really think many would argue that though. The chances however of him getting injured appear to be very high, and he does himself no favors with his consistently rather .... large frame.

You'd suffer a drop in your pace and acceleration too if you had a cruciate ligament injury. Anderson to my memory has never challenged for balls in the air and always used his strength to muscle the player off the ball as it comes to the ground. I can agree maybe his stamina could be better but then the guy has had stop-start seasons since his second season with us, of course his stamina has taken a knock. That's not to say it can't be improved by a long duration of being fit and playing matches.

Anderson is not fat.

His pace and acceleration were a big part of his game. If they're gone, he doesn't bring enough to the table, even on a good day.

Much better today. His passing was a lot better and he kept on making space to recieve the ball. Looked a bit fitter, and with more minutes he should continue to improve.

Slowly regaining his fitness back. If he can start this season like he did the last then we will be just fine in central midfield. The only real question is whether he can stay fit for most of the year. No more injuries and without a doubt he will start fulfilling his potential.

He did well; but it's not difficult for a midfielder against opposition with no ambition, who give him all the time and space in the world.

Cant win, if he was shite then what? 'He was shite, but [caveat]....' doubt it....

So we should see him make at least.. hmm 16 appearances in the league this season? Group CL games at the minimum.

He admitted last year he was carrying injuries and tried to play through them, but says he has rested fully and is recovered 100%. Lets hope this is the year that ando shows his true self.

No, he was good. But we've seen him play well before, and then disappoint. I'd be delighted if he fulfilled his early promise this season. If nothing else, it'd be a tribute to Fergie's patience.

Maybe it's lack of fitness, but I have to say there's little evidence of the rocket-propelled dynamo he looked at Porto. Which is what Fergie paid all that money for.
