Anderson

Wasn't he the next Ronaldinho doing all kinds of skills when in Brazil?

We certainly changed his game.

Hehe, so funny.

Instead of admitting he's fat and unfit, laugh at Maciek, hehe.

You will and should get laughed at for that comment though, surely you realise that?

"Even if you only look at the games he started....."

erm.... yeah, no fecking shit we'll only count the games he started.

There was a time when Anderson was really fit, had even ugly hairstyles, had GREAT acceleration and naturally gifted flair that allowed him to dispatch some nice tricks a la ronaldinho and dribble through defenders quite easily, plus the creativity to see and perform those incisives through/killer passes.

On my book he was supposed to be a much better player by now. I blame the injuries and i personally still hope for him to recover full fitness and somehow fulfill his potential.

I thought it was a well established fact that Anderson's lung capacity was bad when he arrived to United. After he made his first fitness test at Carrington the staff thought it was something wrong with the machines or that he was sick or something. According to the fitness staff his oxygen uptake was something like 2,8L/minute, the lowest result in history made by a United first team player.

If I remember this correctly United decided to revalue their tests after this result. It was a quote's like "Give Ando a football and he will run all day" and "lung capacity doesn't tell the whole story".

This information was told in Swedish television by Stuart Baxter (manager for AIK, Malmo, Finland) a couple of years back, he's apparently a good friend of some of the United staff and have been a guest a Carrington several times.

I think it's well known on the café that Ando's stamina isn't the best, with or without extra weight. If he had lung capacity like Fletch he would probably have been EPL best midfielder at this time. Apart from injuries the only thing who hold back this young man from being a world class player is his lack of stamina.

And just to clarify. I'm pro Anderson. He has always been one of my favorite players, I have loved his wonderful smile and lovely character from the first time i saw him playing for Porto.

So, the question is this: Can a natural lack of stamina, for lack of a better way of putting it, be remedied with proper conditioning, nutrition, lifestyle and so on?

Yes. There must be something he's not doing correctly or not enough of. Be it lifestyle choices or too little dedication to training. Rather he has a natural lack of fitness isn't the point. If he wants to make a great player of himself and enjoy a lengthy career here, something needs to change.

He shouldn't have to be subbed after 70 minutes at 24 years of age.

Dunno, but it has been proven by the american professor Claude Bouchard that about 10-20% of the population are genetically unable to improve their O2 levels, regardless of training.

My hunch is that Ando is capable of improving his stamina, that he is not condemned to a disappointing career of being subbed off after 70 minutes and that he can become a sensational footballer for United. But he'll have to fully dedicate himself to it, if that's what he wants.

Why do you take the tone for this entire post as if it's common knowledge? It sounds like a load of absolute bollocks to be honest. I've rarely read such a bucket of inexcusable shite anywhere on the internet before, let alone right here on the caf.

Good evening Cider!

I'm sorry if my tone upset you, not my intention, but anyway I do believe in this story. I'm quite sure everybody realize that something is not right when a player get tired after 60-70 min more or less every second game. You can almost see in his body language and face when he's out of gas. Athletes with a good oxygen uptake recovers quickly after a hard run, after 15-20 seconds their pulse are back to normal work rate (120-130) but people with a bad stamina needs minutes or sometimes longer to recover. Ando can sometimes during the end of a game disappear for minutes, moments when he just trolling around, typical sign when your blood has a low level of oxygene.

Maybe he can play 90 min when his fitness is 100% but its clear like daylight that his stamina is not the best around.

Also theres absolutely no need for Anderson to run out of energy. Half the time he's running about to collect passes from other team mates near or behind the half way line when he could just casually strole there or let the ball do all the work like Cleverley, Scholes and Carrick. Instead he chooses to do half the work by running to collect the ball at a shorter distance. If he has energy issues the first thing he needs to cut out is this needless fluff.

I don't think the fact that he's been on and off the physio table for god knows how long helps his stamina, especially doing his all-action box to box role.

We could seriously use him again. His form was great before the injury. Anything to keep the Scholes/Giggs combo at the same time on the pitch.

Great news indeed if true. We really need he desire, his presence and energetic/explosive style of play.
Would love to see him with Cleverley soon,Carrick will need a rest soon.

The "If true" is the key. He's not normally a quick returnee.
Anything we get out of him before end of Jan I think is a bonus.

However, Fergie isn't generally that loose with the truth on player's availabilities, so game by game we're bound to have surprises.

Hopefully Rafael, Kagawa, Young and Welbeck are imminent.

This. We need Ando back soon. Our midfield was a one man band yesterday when Scholes don't have the legs keep up the tempo.

Btw. My wife call him Fatson and are in love with Chicarito. Ugly women.

Any update on when he might be back? Read the injury link saying he would be ready for Wigan but there's nothing about him being in the first team squad for today. That also has Nani as due to return today and Fergie has ruled him out until mid Jan.

Carrick's been excellent recently but the over-reliance on him is concerning. I have been hoping the Clev/Anderson partnership would be one way round this for certain games but heard nothing concrete on him for ages. Today would have been perfect for a return.

Why?

I love him, but it's getting to that point in the season when you start to lose hope that he'll ever turn it around.

Like Mclovin says, we would be knackered if he got injured. Playing him every single game as well leads to risk of fatigue and tiredness later on in the season, especially over the xmas period. Very rare for Fergie not to give all his established players at least one games rest over this period of games.

Not just that we have six first team midfielders who I would hope would all be able to contribute to the team. We know Carrick is tried and tested and has good partnership with Anderson and is developing a good one with Cleverley. I'd be hoping we could add to that with other tested and proven partnerships in case he ever does get injured. Clev and Anderson is the one partnership I'd like to see us try as an alternative.

I was also hoping Fletcher could act as an understudy this season for Carrick if needed.

In all honesty though....in terms of history, Carrick has not been known to pick up injuries. More importantly, it is 90 minutes of football! Its not like he is going to Vietnam during the troubles. He is super fit and if he can train every day,he can play a few games

We will see. He looked knackered finishing up against WBA.

I rate Carrick highly and think he is the one proven central midfielder we have who has had a long period of consistently good form but he can't play every single game this season and keep that up. It's also daft to assume he will never get injured. Anderson and Cleverley are the ones after him who look most likely to be get to that level of performance and who have already shown a reasonable understanding together. We should look to develop that as well.

Didn't Fergie say Carrick was running on near empty in the West Brom game near the end? Carrick needs a rest and if we are ever lucky enough to have all our midfielders fit I think it'll help everyone. I don't like relying on just Carrick

Yeah, he did. That's why I expected Fletcher to start today.

If Anderson is close to fitness, he has to start against West Ham.
