Barclays Premier League
Sunday 31st January 2010
The Emirates Stadium
KO: 1600 GMT

Likely matchday squad:
van der Sar, Foster, Kuszczak,
Neville, Evra, Ferdinand, Brown, Fabio, Rafael, Evans,
Anderson, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Fletcher, Valencia,
Owen, Berbatov, Rooney.

Berbatov, Valencia, Owen, Anderson, Vidic are fresh and ready to go... That's the strength of Manchester United

Eduardo and Vermaelen out. Who will partner Gallas?

I imagine Valencia and Park will be starting as not only were they rested but Park usually plays in these away matches and did relatively well vs Arsenal last year in CL.

I think it will be:

VDS

Brown
Vidic
Evans
Evra

Valencia
Fletcher
Carrick
Park

Giggs
Rooney

I am assuming Rio will be suspended.

Campbell is gonna get Rooney'd

VDS
Brown Rio Vida Evra
Valencia Fletcher Carrick Nani
Berbatov Rooney

PIG, Rafael, Evans, Ando, Park, Owen, Diouf

I'l go for 0 - 1

VDS

Rafael
Vidic
Evans
Evra

Valencia
Fletcher
Carrick
Anderson
Nani

Rooney

Close game, but Arsenal haven't been great at the Emirates recently, United to nick it 2-1.

Please no...:nervous: if we go 4-5-1 again which we may well do then a front 3 of Rooney/Nani/Valencia would be my prefered choice, dont see Giggs starting this one seeing as hes just played 90 minutes tonight.....Park just offers nothing going forward and its painfull viewing with him in the team especially in a 4-5-1 formation.

We need pace upfront to test their defense. Campbell is going to be slower than a fecking 1 legged OAP, Rooney will eat him up for breakfast.

Vidic for Rafael moving Brown to right back and id go with that to, assuming Andersons back of course.

I wouldnt let Vidic in straightaway. He's been out for a while now, keep him on the bench and start him in a more low profile game against pompey.
Lack of match sharpness is known to cause brain fecks to our defenders, I wouldnt risk it here given cska are leading the table now with a game in hand.

Fair enough but i disagree on this one, i wouldnt trust and Evans/Brown partnership to have a wank together nevermind find some form out of nowhere as a partnership against the most potent attacking side in the country on their own patch, to say theyve looked shakey is a laughable understatement, and rafael at right back with Arshavin/Rosicky/Nasri whoever running at him has disaster written all over it for me, likewise Neville.

Besides Vidic hasnt been out that long, 3 weeks isnt that long, Rios come back from 3 months out and slotted back in fine playing 2 games in 4 days without any side affects....Vidic should be fine.

Well my only concern is an unfit vidic might be even more accident prone to pace than he normally is. I think Rafael did reasonably well today. I wont be too fussed if he starts again, though I doubt it because he's now played 3 games in a week and his substitution was probably an indication today of brown playing at RB. Not too worried with either of them at RB tbh.
Which reminds me, do we have a reserve game before sunday ? Maybe use that to give Vidic some gametime.

Evans and Brown produced our best defensive display against Chelsea when everybody said they would be torn a new hole. I'd have no problems with them starting together, the team has a couple of very good wins behind them now and confidence is flowing through. I'd rather a fully fit pairing of Evans and Brown that a half-fit Vidic. Remember Vidic tends to need a couple of games to settle in. I'd be wary.

On the reserve issue im not sure, i would think we do but would have the check that, but back to the original point i do see where your coming from and i agree Vidics main Achilles heel at times is his lack of mobility and foot speed to deal with genuine pace, we'll just have to wait and see, i just have very little confidence in a Brown/Evans partnership at the minute after what ive seen over the past few weeks, even pretty modest teams have more than rattled them and Arsenal are as free scoring a side as we can face right now.

Oh i know it was a fantastic performance that day im not disagreeing there at all, but the Evans and Brown of the past few weeks are not the Evans and Brown that started at Stamford bridge Elvis that much is pretty evident, they both look a long way short of their best form albeit Evans was much better tonight but alongside Rio which i think had alot to do with that….im just basing my opinion on what ive seen over the past month and it hasn’t filled me with confidence to suggest they’d be up to keeping a clean sheet against Arsenal or even close to it....and remember both have just come back from fitness problems themselves maybe even slightly rushed back ahead of shedule due to our crisis at the time....

------------Van Der Sar-----------
--Brown---Vidic---Evans---Evra---
----Fletcher--Anderson--Carrick---
--Valencia------------------Nani--
---------------Rooney------------

Thats how id like to see us go in if we have to go 4-5-1 especially if Campbell is playing, pace pace and more pace the better and that front 3 has got good pace.

Almunia
Sagna Gallas Campbell Clichy
Song
Denilson
Fabregas
Nasri Bendtner Arshavin

Is my guess.

But Song and Bendtner both could come of the bench.

I'd like for us to go with

VDS
Brown, Vidic, Evans, Evra
Valencia, Fletcher, Carrick, Nani
Berbatov, Rooney

I suspect SAF will go

VDS
Brown, Vidic, Evans, Evra
Fletcher, Carrick, Ando,
Valencia, Rooney, Park

He said we have got to win it. Hopefully he puts out a team that will attack and go for the win.

Evans and Brown were horrendous the match before, the 3-3 match at Old Trafford against CSKA Moscow.

Very true but that was 1 game, theyve been pretty 'ordinary' for a lot longer recently and arguably neither was 100% ready to come back when they did but were forced to answer a rather desperate SOS cry.

Look its just my view that i wouldnt fancy Brown and Evans lining up together against Arsenal at the moment given sides like Leeds/Hull/Birmingham to name a few have caused said partnership far to many problems than they should have recently, both Evans and Brown are short of their best form and probably fitness....

We'll see how it goes i think the fact Vidic was on the bench tonight suggests he is now fit to play and will start on sunday.

Got a pretty good feeling about this one. Arse players are dropping like flies, and I think the next three games for them will determine just how serious their title challenge will be this season.

Tempted to say we win this by the same scoreline we did at OT. 2-1

With our injuries right now cant say I'm optimistic.

Dont seem to be able to put out a continuous selection of fit players which does'nt help.

Utd have also just come into form and players are coming back as well.

Bendtner will play but he's not match fit so we'll need scoring to come from midfield / flanks imo and that means that Rosicky Nasri and Arshavin have to step up to the plate and be more direct than they have been.

Song should give us a more solid look in the middle and free up Fabregas.

Had Vermaelen not got his injury I'd have fancied us but now it could go the other way as the pressure will be on us at the back not to leave Campbell too exposed to pace - hopefully Gallas can help there as there wont be any from Almunia!

I dont think we'll get anything at Chelsea so we really need to win this but a draw for me 1-1 /2-2

What do you reckon your starting XI and bench will look like Jopub, taking injuries and suspensions into consideration?

I'm really not worried about our defence come Sunday. Wasn't it Evans and Vidic that played the majority of the matches together during our clean-sheet run last season? They complete each other very well I think.

Very difficult game, and the midfield will be key. However, I think we should attack them, therefore I'd go with:

---------VDS----------
Rafael--Rio--Vida--Evra
Valencia-Carrick-Fletch-Nani
-----Rooney---Berbatov

If Rio is suspended, I'd play Evans. Hard to leave Scholes out, but as he played against City, I just cant see him starting on sunday. And since Anderson seems to rather enjoy a bit of sun, I doubt he'll be available either
