This is my first match day thread. If we lose I will obviously never do one again!

We really need to get ourselves sorted and stop fecking about now.

I'd like to see:

De Gea
Jones Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Carrick Fletcher
Nani Giggs Young
Rooney

Smalling probably deserves a spot but seeing as he gave absolutely everything for 120minutes last night he'll probably miss out.

anything less than a win and if we don't avoid defeat against basel, alarm bell will start ringing fast.

Indeed. Oh wait...... I'm working :(

De Gea - Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra - Nani, Carrick, Giggs, Young - Rooney, Chicharito.

Subs: Lindegaard, Smalling, Fletcher, Morrison, Valencia, Park, Macheda.

Would have started Park insted of Young in this at first, but after 120 mins for Park last night that's not ideal so Nani and Young as wingers, Carrick-Giggs in the centre.

I doubt giggs will start, with carrick suspended in europe, giggs will have to play that game. I'd expect fletch and carrick in the middle which is probably why fletch had this week off as he'll likely play the next thee games. It's a shame park and Valencia have played 120 mins of football already. It would have been nice to keep one of young nani fresh for midweek. Hopefully though we can wrap the game up quickly.

Never thought of that, but a very good point. Think you are right about that. Fletcher-Carrick it is then and Fletch-Giggs for wednesday.

Hmmm that's actually a very good point.

Yes, true I never thought of that. Okay, Fletch alongside Carrick on Saturday and keep Giggs for next week CL.

With City likely to win comfortably at home to Norwich at 3pm, this is a game that we really can't afford to drop points in. We need to keep as much pressure on them as possible with their tough few games coming up.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Smalling
CB: Vidic
CB: Jones
LB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Carrick
CM: Fletcher
LM: Young

CF: Hernandez
CF: Rooney

Subs: Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Evans, Giggs, Valencia, Park, Macheda

Haven't won there for years but they've become a truly rubbish side, I'll go another unconvincing 0-1 to us Hernandez with the goal

Haven't people been banging on for weeks that Carrick & Fletcher don't work together, or am I mistaken?

I don't have a problem with that pair (it's hardly Anderson - Fletcher). We know what we'll get from both. They just struggle in the creativity department but hopefully Young, Nani, Rooney and the 4th attacker will be good enough.

I think they did OK against Benfica, more-so Carrick, though. The main problem is we don't really have anyone else to play there.. Unless we play 442 with Giggs in the middle. I'd like to see a 4231 for this match though with Hernández coming on in the second half:

de Gea
Jones Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Carrick
Nani Giggs Young
Rooney
--
Lindegaard; Smalling, Evans; Gibson, Park, Valencia; Hernández

The majority of that bench played 120 minutes, but we don't really have any other option unless Berbatov isn't actually injured. I can see Hernández starting and Rooney in the hole - meaning one of Carrick, Fletcher, or Giggs doesn't start. Due to so many injuries, and players who played for ages last night, it'll be hard to shuffle around for the Basel game. I just hope we don't end up seeing Rooney in midfield again.

I think we'll win this 0-2 in a pretty average match with an OK performance, but we won't dazzle anyone and the muppets will still find things to complain about.

Watch us lose now...

I'm not sure how confident I am with Carrick and Fletcher in the middle when we go away. If Villa put any sort of pressure on us, I think we'll lose the midfield battle as we did last time around with the same midfield pairing.

At OT, they get more time than usual. It's not the same away from home and unless they pick it up, I'd expect more of the same out of that pairing. I'd rather have Carrick and Giggs rather than Carrick and Fletcher. Neither of them seem to be able to provide us an outlet when we get pressured. It's why players like Giggs and Cleverley are helpful. They're not afraid of tight spaces and know how to navigate their way through one most of the time. I'd love for the Carrick Fletcher combo to prove me wrong, but as far as I can tell, if Villa put a lot of pressure on us, we'll be in for a tough game.

I'd like to see this as well but knowing Sir Alex we'll play 4-4-2 as usual and be wide open in midfield (as usual).

Carrick and Fletcher got done like dinners at Villa park last season but we don't really have any choice. I guess they can just sit deep and our front 4 hopefully can create the chnaces between them. If we don't win this one I expect we'll be chasing a 8 point lead.

Both were out of form then, this time we have Carrick playing well and Fletcher getting better with each game. Before last season when they played they were an effective combo, I'm sure they'll be fine.

Tricky fixture especially with Basel next. Dropped points and that's even more pressure to contend with. Need the likes of Rooney and Nani to get the points for us.

I've not seen any real signs of Fletcher improving in truth, and it's a combo that has never been great in my view, it's very short on ideas and variation.

Really? Fair enough, I think he's been steadily improving. As for the combo well we'll just have to see, I'm confident in it though.

I would like to see:
De Gea
Smalling - Rio - Vidic - Evra
Jones
Carrick - Cleverley
Nani - - - - - - Young
Rooney

I hope they are all fit.

Yeah, Giggs is fit as far as we know.. But Cleverley is out until around Christmas I believe. Anderson is also out until February, so we'll probably end up relying on Gibson for a game or two at some stage.

If Carrick gets injured, December will be pretty horrid.
