Away Champions League game in Germany. Just what we need

We've been massively crap in our two away games in Europe this season. Think we worked the 'keeper once in both games. Difference this time is that Moyes has to go for it, so hoping for a less rigid and unimaginative display.

Worried to say the least but I do hope that some injured lads are back and others will step it up.

Will be a cold night on wednesday.

They're without Sidney Sam who is the one you'd expect to cause problems.

If Rio plays I can see him getting destroyed by Kiessling, but Kiessling needs supply so it's up to us to cut that out and Sidney Sam being out does us a huge favour.

We need to up our game several notches if we hope to get a point from this. Leverkusen were unusually bad against us at Old Trafford. We'll face a totally different team this time.

Ninja edit:
Since Fellaini is suspended and we're still missing Carrick and Jones, there's no safe or defensively solid midfield pairings left. Feck it, let's trash them:lol:

------------ DDG -----------
- Rafael - Rio - Evans - Evra
---- Cleverley - Rooney ----
Valencia - Kagawa - Welbeck
------------ RVP -----------

Players in italics unsure..

If key players are not back from injury, then this could be a disaster. I've not see anyone with convincing tactics and lineup changes that would turn today's squad into one that will skate through this game.

De Gea
Rafael--Evans--Vidic--Evra
Cleverley--Giggs
Nani--Rooney--Welbeck
van Persie

Whether Rooney likes it or not I want him playing deep in this match.

Our midfield is painful. We need Rafael, van Persie and Kagawa back for this to give us some options. I fear for us. The midfield will get dominated vs Leverkusen's 3 in the middle. I would be happy with a draw.

Moyes said today some of those injured v Cardiff could be back for this. Guess we'll see who flies out on Tuesday.

Gotta get at least a draw, simple as that.

Draws probably an okay result. The Donetsk game becomes a lot bigger though. Come second in the group and we're fecked too. We'd find it extremely difficult beating one of Barcelona, Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético or Bayern, they all have too much quality for us.

Great detective work ya loser. I was responding to the post above and was double checking. Nothing to do with a joke, you cnut.

double checking! That's a good one! Your comedy routine needs a lot more work. Always the same crap.

Kid Canto (is it time you got your name back?), whats your Match Thread Record like?

Surely Anderson should get a go.

:lol: What is your issue you absolute clown? 'Always the same crap', you make me laugh you sad man.

If your set up for your own "jokes" wasn't so hamfisted maybe you'd give us a laugh too!

Good news to have a game so quickly after today's disappointment.
Bad news it suddenly looks very awkward and could easily change what looked a comfy group position into a mad scramble to get through let alone avoid the big hitters in round 2.

could get bumpy.

Probably time to pack the midfield with whoever the feck we've got:

de Gea
Smalling Evans Vidic Evra
Cleverley Anderson
Valencia Giggs Kagawa
Rooney

Sadly, we'll probably see Ashley Young I guess? Most likely Kagawa behind Rooney and Young on the left if so. Nani would normally get a look in, but I can see that being a no in an important away game like this. Hopefully Rafael, Jones, and van Persie are back from injury, however, as they'd all start.

Anderson probably deserves a kick of the ball at this point though!

Is jones definitely out for this one? If not he has to play which is something I didn't think I'd be saying about him in central midfield. I reckon Giggs will definitely start as well so would expect giggs and jones in the middle. With Welbeck back I can easily see him starting rightly or wrongly for his defensive work. I'd like to see Kagawa in the middle as think he might just drop a bit deeper and help the others retain the ball better even if he won't defend as well as a welbeck/rooney there.

It is a 19.45 kick off after all then? When they were advertising it on Sky this afternoon they kept talking about it being an early one. Their programme starts at 6pm, god knows what they are going to find to talk about for over an hour & a half pre-match.

btw, if Nani still plays for United, can we play him please?

As someone else said, we might just have to pack the midfield - even though we are few in numbers there - and also add a bit more pace to the side, given how impressive Leverkusen are on the counter attack.

Assuming Physioroom are correct and van Persie and Rafael return, while Carrick and Jones remain out - along with suspended Fellaini - I'd like to see something like this.

de Gea
Rafael - Evans - Vidic - Evra
Cleverley - Giggs
Valencia - Rooney - Kagawa
van Persie
This isn't accounting for Vidic or Kagawa's injuries. I really don't know what is meant to be the extent of their injuries as I haven't paid attention to any of the post-match interviews. Lets just hope we get the three points, a loss and the whole complexion of the group changes massively. We will be in a dogfight to qualify for the next round.

Not exactly looking forward to this. Probably booked overtime for the wrong day given how we are playing...

20:45 CET so that's 19:45 British time.

De Gea
Rafael Evans Vidic Evra
Cleverley Rooney
Nani Kagawa Welbeck
Van Persie

If fit, that's what I'd go with.

De gea
Rafael (please) Evans Vidic evra
Cleverley/Anderson Giggs
Nani/Valencia Rooney kagawa/januzaj
van Persie

Hope we manage a draw in this, would leave us needing a win at home to Shakhtar to secure first place, I'd gladly take it. A win would be fantastic but I doubt it. We've got a lot of uncertainties today though, so many injuries and not sure who's back. If Rafael is fit then I'm pretty confident. As long as I don't see smalling at right back. Wingers can be anyone, giggs will definitely play, but who will be his partner? I would've said cleverley yesterday, but his performance this morning was atrocious.

No Carrick, Fellaini or Jones? How close is Fletch to a first team return? :nervous:

I genuinely think we should give that a try. He's definitely got the physical attributes needed and he plays cm for Ecuador right? If he could get the discipline and positional tekkers nailed down he'd probably be our best defensive midfielder after. Erm.. Do we have a defensive midfielder?
