Nolan to miss United visit

Bolton Wanderers' derby against Blackburn ended in controversy this weekend with Jussi Jasskelainen saving two penalties in two minutes and captain Kevin Nolan seeing red for dissent.

The dismissal spells bad news for the Trotters because it means their influential skipper will now serve a two-match ban, starting with the top three clash against United. on Saturday

Scouser Nolan has a habit of playing well against United with three goals to his name against the Reds. His first came in Bolton’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford in October 2001. He then scored the only goal of the game in Bolton’s second win on the bounce at OT, on 11 September 2002 and netted in the 2-2 draw at the Reebok exactly two years later.

Meanwhile, Bolton’s Abdoulaye Faye should be fit to face the Reds despite being taken to hospital following the Blackburn game after suffering concussion. The Senegalese defender was injured in a collision with goalkeeper Jaaskelainen but has been discharged from hospital and although he will miss Wednesday's Carling Cup third round tie against Charlton Athletic at The Valley, he should be ok for Saturday.

"Abdoulaye was visibly in pain and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure on Sunday," explained Wanderers' boss Sam Allardyce.

"He will have further tests this week from our medical team. He has been ruled out of Wednesday's match at Charlton. If tests prove that he has fully recovered, he could return on Saturday against Manchester United."

this is a little early.

we shouldnt malign the carling cup this season now that the team looks capable in the better competitions! lets not forget that this competition was the bright spot in a pretty ordinary year last year.

also the crewe game will be a platform for a few established players... so why the bolton thread has been done already is beyond me!

rrarraroon, you really like doing matchday thread don't you`?

This is bad luck, let's concentrate on one game at hand...

oh man it puts a huuuuge smile on my face knowing I make a difference

Bollox to crew, that's like waiting for a reserve match!

I always get twitchy before the Bolton game. Typical that we have to play them whilst on the crest of a Poo victory !

Glad its at their place, we have a better record than at home!

I'll be in Belgium but I'll find a screen somehow :D

Let's play Crewe first before we talk about this??

Wrong forum. :p

The Crewe game is more like a reserves fixture - not underestimating them, but it's a fact. We're going to be sending out second string players and those recuperating from injury.

Still, it's a senior team match, so we should wait until it's out of the way.

The more important question should be.

3pm on a saturday?? what the hell is that all about - we usually play 1am sunday night or 5.34pm saturdays..

unnacceptable

I'm glad we finally have a 3pm kick off. Thats the first time since we were away at Watford. Now i can sleep in till 1 :boring:

Thought i'd get it in early.

There will be plenty mate. Dont worry. I dont know the channel yet but if you remind me on friday night or saturday i'll PM you with links.

bolton away looks a very tricky fixture. having said this we always do well at the reebok, better than any other team in the league in fact as we don't bow down to their physical or direct style.

this season, they have looked impressive defensively, but they haven't had to deal with an attack of our quality.

also, no nolan will be a massive blow for them.

VDS
Gaz--Rio--Hatchet-man--Gaby
Ronaldo--Fletcher--Scholes--Giggs
Rooney
Saha

Gaby will play if he got through the crewe game okay. he's neaded to deal with the aerial bombardment, evra would struggle.

fletcher is undroppable after his liverpool display and will start ahead of carrick with ronaldo suitably rested.

united 2-0 - saha and scholes - saha needs one and scholes is on a run!

---------------Van Der Sar------------------

--Neville-----Rio------Vidic---------Evra---

--Ronaldo-----Scholes--Carrick------Giggs---

-----------------Rooney---------------------

-------------------------Saha---------------

Prediction:3-1 in our favour (Giggs, Scholes, Saha)

After the perfomance i saw against crewe am not to optimistic about Bolton. Man United must play 6 times better than yesterday just even to reach Bolton's league:nervous:

yeh, but united's team will be six times better!

I can see us dropping points here, if we were to win it would send a big message over to our foes in West London.

But I really do think we wont so i'll go for a 1-0 Bolton or a lucky 1-1 or 2-2.

team should be

vds

gary n - rio f - nem v - evra

ronny - carrick - scholes - giggs

rooney - saha

Pathetic because I think we'll struggle away from home to Bolton who have the meanest home defence in the league?

Yeah pathetic.

1-3 to utd. two for giggs and a last minute goal for rooney. Speed for bolton

It'll be tough no doubt, but a think bolton have had a few lucky results to get them where they are. Watford pissed all over them and so did blackburn but they somehow came up with 1-0 wins. Also no nolan would be a blow for them. Tight but i think we'll shade it 2-1.

Bolton 2-0 Tottenham - Spurs have been piss poor. Still a good win.
Bolton 1-0 Watford - courtesy of a last minute Speed pen.
Bolton 0-0 Middlesbrough - fail to score against an awful Boro defense.
Bolton 2-0 Liverpool - great result.

Overall, its not a bad record they've built up at the Reebok. Speed and Campo have been their goal threats (scoring 4 of the 5 goals for them). But overall, they've struggled to score goals (Anelka hasn't got going yet) and have kept clean sheets but even this does not tell the whole story. Spurs and Liverpool have been toothless all season in the league and Watford and Boro have struggled.

This is their first PROPER test and I expect us to take the win.

no nolan and campo, but i still dont think it will be a rollover by any means

however im hoping we score 2 or 3 to kill the game off otherwise they might pop in with a killer set piece as they usually do....

3-1 to utd

saha saha ronaldo

diouf....

I also think we will have some problems but we won there last season so i have belief that we will do the same again this saturday.

Maybe so, but no side in the league has scored as many goals as us away from home so far this season. You respect the threat they pose which i understand and agree with, but to do so you don't have to underestimate our own as well, place your belief in that.

As for the game, i think we'll win, 0-1 or 0-2 the FT.

And a Rooney goal perhaps?

What is Ronaldo's condition? Is his hamstring still a problem? Even more of a shame that Park is out, and will be for a time yet.
