Bolton Wanderers vs. Manchester United

Giggs and Scholes both starting worries me a bit for the Valencia game. Hopefully we can put this game to bed early and give them a rest.

TBH against Bolton i would like to see Oshea play ahead of Rafael, i think Rafael should get more chances in the home games but away Oshea is a seasoned pro who can handle the physical/defensive part of the game

Exactly, Kevin Davies would instantly move his attention away from targetting Evra to going right at Rafael with the aerial bombardment, Bolton away isn't a good game for Rafael to play yet

Yeah got a bad feeling about what team we put out vs Valencia.

Fletcher will start. That guys going to get burnt out playing every game week in week out.

Rafael is fully capable in that regard, he just needs experience to cut out the odd brain fart he's liable to. And speaking of brain farts O'shea hasn't exactly been free of them, I just think the young Brazilian needs to be given some starts to mature him and this could have been a good game for it.

Well Fergie's partially to blame for that. It can't help him to be played out on the wings and when he does get to play striker he gets service from the likes of Gibson

Hernandez has been the least impressive of our five strikers so far this season and he has a fair share of opportunities so far this season. On form Owen and Macheda are the right picks for the sub places.

Hernandez is going to take a while to adjust to the pace of the league and the country and climate. It's nothing major if he is not involved every week in his early weeks at United. He's already been used fairly often by Fergie but has done nothing since the start of the season. Owen and Macheda have.

thats why fletcher called for focus on our defence....tbh its has been really shocking.

Well it's been piss poor since the US tour pre season. We just can't stop conceding goals no matter who we play in defense.

Well he has been unimpressive but as I said playing him out on the wing has not really helped. He's just not meant to play on the wings.

He needs more minutes coming on later in games when our first team is involved. Even against Scunthrope we shifted him out onto the wing. He's fairly poor there.

Bar two players (Rafael and Rio), that's more or less the team I picked.

Glad to see Nani on the right, and Rooney being kept with Berba up front. Disappointed Chicharito isn't on the bench, but then again Owen got 2 great goals midweek and Macheda has that presence about him when he comes off the bench. That's probably what swung it for SAF to leave Chicharito out.

Come on United, let's make yesterday count today.

His defending has definately improved but you see how Davis always targets Evra to try and win headers, now imagine if Rafael was playing, Davis would see instant win and target him. I wont lie i would like to see us play Rafael more as hes got huge amounts of potential and ability, however, hes still young and for these type of away games i think Oshea is a safer bet. Oshea is as likely to have a brain fart moment as any other defender, it still doesnt mean that defensively Rafael is better than him

It's all about learning the ropes. I know the World Cup has created big expectations, but for a while he'll probably be like a lad coming up from the reserves.

What is this weird affection everyone has for Hernandez round here?

Why is he the only striker in the world who must never be played on the wing?

Players like Walcott and Rooney all play/played there as part of their development, even Henry did too - I don't see why Hernandez should be considered above this.

He's quick enough to do a job there, and it would help improve his all round game.

Must have missed that...

Come on against Chelsea he got a goal, vs Fulham he showed good movement, vs Rangers his runs went un-noticed as no one could pick out the right ball for him and on Wed night he was played as a winger! But still produced 3 good chances to score. i dont think its fair to say hes the least impressive because when he does get his chance he doesnt get the service he needs.

Problem he faces is he is almost a carbon copy of Owen so SAF has to pick between them rather than having both players on the bench, and after Owens two goals midweek it would be shattering to his confidence if he was dropped for Hernandez

But Rafael is a better player than him, therefore he should start. It's that simple.

I wasn't suggesting Rafael was better than O'shea defensively, I was just saying I'd like the kid to be given some starts to help him gain experience. He's mixed it with the big boys in Europe and showed he has defensive skills, it's just his lack of experience which holds him back and there's only one way to solve the experience problem.

That said, you are right about Davis, so maybe I'm talking out of my arse!

He isn't. I think you'll find most people would actually rather see their strikers play as strikers, and not as wingers.

Well he has been unimpressive but as I said playing him out on the wing has not really helped. He's just not meant to play on the wings.

He's only played once on the wing against Scunthorpe and Macheda was also shunted out to the left a fair bit on Wednesday. It was an odd formation and abit like selecting the 11 players most needing games and fitting them into a formation.

However, Hernandez has also had starts against Fulham and Rangers and also been brought on in the Charity Shield and Newcastle. Can't remember if he was also given minute against West Ham but he may have been. He's already been used a fair bit and more often than Macheda and Owen so he's not been short of opportunities. For me, he only looked impressive in the Charity Shield following pre-season whereas Owen and Macheda have looked better in recent weeks so it makes sense to give them the sub slots.

Hernandez is still very new to English football and United. Like the other poster said the World Cup has created high expectations which need to dampened slightly. He's not the real deal yet and needs to be brought through in the right way. At the moment he does not merit being ahead of Owen and Macheda. Maybe in a few weeks he will address the balance.

But Rafael is a better player than him, therefore he should start. It's that simple.

Hes a better attacker, but defender? Still improving that part of his game but he has come on leaps and bounds in that aspect.

Also Rafael has done what all young players have, hes inconsistant. Some games you see him play and its like have a right footed Evra on the pitch, others he makes mistakes that we are lucky to avoid losing a goal. Hes a fantastic player but we are playing Bolton today and i dont think it would be wise to start him. Now take midweek, i would agrue he should start there as Valencia isnt really a physical team that will target him

Does he really? He is as solid as anyone, and probably makes the least amount of big mistakes than any other defender we have.

Apparently this the first time since December 2008 we've named an unchanged side from one PL game to the next.

Strong team, I don't like O'Shea at RB but hopefully he can do the job. Big game for Evans, he got bullied by Zamora and made a stupid tackle last week, hopefully he can step up and prove to SAF he's worthy of starting even when Rio's fit. I'm glad Kiko's being picked on the bench recently, a good player who can make an impact and also offers something different to the other strikers. It's better having Kiko and Owen/Hernandez on the bench than having Owen and Hernandez,

That was sort of my point, hes no more likely to make a mistake then say Vidic

Sorry, I thought that you were slagging him off.

O'Shea gets a lot of unfair critisism in general. For example, he got slated by some for his alleged poor passing against Liverpool, when his passing stats were excellent.

Is this not on Sky?
