Bundesliga 2015/2016

Sorry for the nooby questions. Is this the first weekend of Bundesliga action? Have Bayern played yet?

Very briefly - which are the teams to look out for this season? (Dortmund looking very confident again!)

Yes. Bayern beat Hamburg 5-0 yesterday. Teams to look out for are probably the usual suspects. Schalke looked excellent today in their 3-0 win and have a very talented but very young squad. Leverkusen have a fantastic midfield, but questions remain about their goalscoring. Wolfsburg should be stronger than last season if they keep De Bruyne. If he leaves, they'll probably fall apart.

Dortmund look scary and Gladbach a bit shit today, so there you have the remaining two top teams and their form so far.

I can't tell if Dortmund is that good or Gladbach that bad. Probably a mixture of both. Great to see Dortmund in full flow again.

Dortmund, Bayern, Wolfsburg are the strongest teams. Schalke have an exciting young team. Leverkusen and Gladbach are good as well, despite the latter getting hammered here. And Mainz of course, the best of the lot. :smirk:

Did you miss your game today? Just to remind you, you lost at home against Ingolstadt :D.

More serious, how do you see your team and what are your expectations for this season?

What's the deal with Julian Weigl? Played in the 2nd division last season, is he just being given a shot in a relatively straightforward fixture, or is he expected to remain a first team player?

Cheers all. I want to take a bit more interest in the Bundesliga this season, seems we have a fair few experts on here which should help!

My guess would be that he was just a talent who got a lot of playing time in pre-season because Sahin is still injured. Then he was absolutely fantastic and easily outperformed Castro, so now he has a real shot at staying in the team. At least until Sahin is back to his best. But then, I never really rated Castro and can't see him being more than a back-up in this Dortmund side.

If he plays like he did so far this season, then he is in for a shout. Will be interresting when Sahin comes back, although I expect us to patiently built Sahin up again.

It might help them in league ala Liverpool two seasons ago. Here is hoping that Bundesliga is not a walkover this season

Well at the end of the day Dortmund entirely rely on a fit first XI.

When their key players are fit then they'll challenge Bayern but once they start picking up injuries like the last few years they're screwed.

Don't think that's entirely true. Of course if they have a comparable injury crisis to the last two seasons, they again fall apart. But their depth in midfield and defense is pretty good. They need Reus and Auba to stay fit for most of the season, but other than that they're not that reliant on individuals.

well, midfielders like nuri sahin or oliver kirch are out due to injuries, and weigl seems to be seen on level with, if not superior to bender, already, while gonzalo castro would have been the more "natural" choice in a match against a very proper opponent like gladbach - but as i said, weigl fared really well during pre-season, and now it's obvious that tuchel does indeed see him as an actual option for a starting XI. which is a wee bit exciting to me.

Yeah, thats bollocks. Aubameyang and Hummels are the only two we would have a real hard time replacing. Reus would obviously also hurt.

Did you hear Bayern won 5-0 last night?

Would like for Ramos to get a goal. Would be good for his confidence after the long injury.

Not scared, just don't want it to happen ;).

Not that it matters. I don´t expect us to be in the title race this season. There will be some growing pains sooner or later. Next season could be a different story.

But next season, Arsenal will have bought Auba, United Hummels and City Reus. And well, maybe someone's left for us to steal from you as well. Better challenge this season.

Lets go for Weigl and Gündögan.

I'm already shitting bricks just thinking about what Dortmund will do to us this season if we play with a high defensive line again. The horror...

Maybe, but our top players are already with their minds in England as clearly seen today. Will be tough no matter what. Maybe we have better chances to become a farming team of Chelsea. So, we would at least get the players they deem not good enough for them.

Good thing is we'll be out of the cup before they can humiliate us again in the final. Ffs, get a grip. You're one depressive Bayern fan .

Who the hell is Gündögan? Ilkays more talented but stupid cousin?

they way dortmund boiled this one down and ended the game without any completely needless sloppiness already felt more mature and sublime to anything during the klopp era.

Tuchel really enjoys giving his off-coming subs a giant slap in the ass, hey. Practically winding up his right arm there. But yea, exciting times for Dortmund fans.

Did you miss your game today? Just to remind you, you lost at home against Ingolstadt :D.

I had the unfortunate experience of watching it live. We were truly horrible.

Before today's game I'd have said that I expect another midtable finish. Maybe it's a bit kneejerk, but now it feels like it will be a season of fighting relegation. The most worrying aspect of our performance was the complete lack of midfield creativity (not that Ingolstadt were any better, but in their case it looked intentional). This was also apparent in pre-season, including our 3-0 win over Lazio. As it is, we rely almost entirely on our quick wingers doing something special.

On paper, our squad isn't that bad. Karius is a very good keeper, Bell is quality, our fullback options Brosinski and Park are good. Bungert is a bit shaky though, and the backups aren't great.
Our depth and quality on the wings is great, Jairo, Clemens, Muto, Beister, (Koo). Malli is usually pretty good at number 10, we also have some good backups here.
The problem areas are where we lost our star players. Niederlechner looks a downgrade on Okazaki, and central midfield lacks a playmaker. Frei is better playing a bit further forward, so we ended up with Baumi as the DLP, which he's expectedly terrible at. I'd like to see Koo tried in this position

It's not all doom and gloom, we looked dangerous every time we attacked at speed - we simply refused to do it for most of the match. Malli was also really dreadful today. If he plays to his potential, we'll probably look much better.

I'm also looking forward to your lot playing Ingolstadt, what an absolute turd of a team. Vintage Stoke.

Well, this was a bit more of a rant than intended, but I think there's enough substance to it.

Cheers, would be nice to see him keep his place.

Just enough rant to make it fun to read without taking anything away from the substance ;).

yeah, it would, but then nuri sahin is about to return to regular training soon (knock on wood) and has been a rather crucial figure on the pitch whenever he was more or less fit, he's more of a leader type than weigl could naturally be at that point. plus castro is a fierce competitor, as are bender or even gündogan. thing is: dortmund's options and possible parings are almost frighteningly overwhelming. tuchel loves his young players tho, yet he won't overplay weigl and will let him develop with care. but the lad fared really really great today, in his first bundesliga match ever, at 19 years of age.

Damn I missed the Dortmund vs. Gladbach game. Great result for Dormtund.

What the hell happened to Dortmund though? 89% pass success rate and 61% possession? Never thought I would see those numbers in combination with this team.

Thomas Tuchel. He's a fantastic manager and Dortmund has more than enough technical players who can keep the ball well.
