Bundesliga 2015/2016

I strongly disagree. It looks like Dortmund are playing something inbetween a 4141/4231. For the balance-giving CM they have Gündogan and Castro, maybe even Mkhitaryan if need be. So no need here.
For the more attacking CM position (or #10) they have Kagawa, Reus, Mkhitaryan and Castro can play here too. That at best leaves the solo / defensive 6 for him. Where they already have Sahin (who imho Geis is quite similar too, but still worse), Weigl and maybe Bender/Castro as more situational options.

If Weigl can't keep his current level then they could probably use another #6, but so far he's performed really well and in any case I think Mainz was asking too much with their demand of €12-15m and a share of his next sale.

If they decide to spend big it should be for a LB, (Schmelzer has had a very good start to the season, but he still has his limitations), a second striker or a more convincing AM alternative than Kampl. However aside from my doubts about Ramos (and assuming that Weigl will remain a useful option) I think that their squad looks excellent in terms of depth and first XI, at least by Bundesliga standards.

Nah, Geis´ price was justified and normal. We simply did not need him the moment we signed a more unknown alternative to him, though.

I would take Sahin over both anyway, especially taking his standing as lead player into account, but Weigl has so far impressed pretty much everyone and proven to be excellent cover, which is a role Geis would probably not wanted.

I don´t see us spending anything at all until the end of the window, at most a striker talent in the place of Ducksch, who might be on the way out. The squad is actually too big right now, even with three competitions. Leitner and Großkreutz have no real perspective anymore. I see the former´s departure as pretty certain, probably towards his old club Augsburg. The latter will have to decide, if he wants to spend a whole season as the teams mascot aka. the back up of the back up. There is also chatter about Kuba, but he should only go if he himself expresses the wish to leave to play elsewhere as a starter.

In terms of the LB position I really don´t get why Schmelzer still gets so much heat. The guy has stepped up his offensive contribution a lot (his defense was always solid) since Tuchel took over and has been overall one of our best performer in 2015, so basically since he was in physical top shape which is very important for him. Serious upgrades would be way harder to come by as some would think. The only two remaining players in the Bundesliga are completely unobtainable for us (Alaba/Rodriguez) and the other one just left for 25 Mil.€ to Chelsea, a sum that would not have been worth for us. If we want to take a look at our Fullbacks, it would have to be his counterpart Piscu, who gets away with way worse performances than Schmelzer and has been the weakest link in the pre season and the officials games so far.

The central defense and midfield are set and pretty damn stacked and so is our offensive midfield IMO. We have with Reus and Mkhitaryan two set starters in most games and then Kagawa, Kampl, Hofmann and Kuba battling for the remaining spot. On top of that the hybrids Gündogan and Castro who can play there plus our most talented academy prospect Jeremy Dudziak, who is seen as left midfielder by Tuchel rather than as the LB he was under Klopp. Thats more than enough in terms of overall quality and depth. I actually don´t want more players there given that I hope that Mkhitaryan extends sooner or later and the rest have long contracts.

The reason for that are two players in our academy whom I have high expectations for. The first one, Felix Passlack, should be rather well known as Germany´s U17 captain and standout player of the last Euro. He is physically far enough developed that I can see him making his first steps in professional football in the next season. The other one might be even more spectacular at least for the eyes. I normally do not get that overly excited with youth players, because I know how much can go wrong with talents, but the first time I have seen US mega talent Christian Pulisic live I was literally shocked at his sublime technical ability. I have only seen one Dortmund youth player before with that much ability on the ball at that age: a certain play maker who had other plans than to stick with Dortmund for the long haul.

Maybe it is a bit wishful thinking on my part, but I believe that the chances of at least one of the them managing a direct breakthrough for Dortmund are pretty damn high, so I don´t want too many squad players sitting ahead of them and preventing them getting enough chances on professional level for us.

The part where we are probably the most vulnerable is the striker position, where a long injury of Aubameyang (thankfully he is not injury prone at all) could really hurt us a lot. For the normal recovery times Ramos is more than enough, though.

Well.. guess I might be under rating Geis. I'll try to focus on him when I watch my next Schalke matches.

I feel like Schmelzer's "new" offensive qualities have a lot to do with his team mates putting in the work for him. You often see Mkhitaryan/Reus positioned deeper than him and covering for him or making supporting runs behind him.
Tuchel almost completely freed him of any build up duties/worries by putting him in an advanced position, sometimes as high as Kagawa.
If he keeps hitting crosses like last saturday no one is going to complain, but people haven't forgotten what most of them looked like before this season (admittedly that probably also had something to do with how Dortmund set up their attacks) and I still think his technique, dribbling and passing is kinda limited. So (I) imagine the kind of havoc a truly attacking LB could cause with that much freedom.
Still everyone knows really good LBs are extremely hard to come by and I believe that Dortmund could do worse than Schmelzer, but theoretically speaking I think it's by far the position in their first team where they could improve the most.

How easy is it to get tickets for Wolfsburg home games?

I’m looking to maybe take in a Wolfsburg game sometime this season (probably after the Winter break), but being Manchester based, I’ve got no idea of how best to get there, get tickets, etc…

Where I’m from, is a place called Woolston, and for our old 5-a-side team, we were VFL Woolston, and wore Wolfsburg shirts, so they’ve always been my “german team” so to speak, in that I’d look out for results, etc…

We’re looking at having a lads weekend away, and I’m suggesting we squeeze into our old Wolfsburg shirts, and head to watch them play…

According to their website which seems to be german-language only, there would be tickets available for all upcoming home matches where sale is open already (~next 3-4 matches). So i'd say your chances are ok.

Looks pretty easy to get tickets for the neutral sector, yeah. Guess someone on here could guide you through the shopping process on the page.

Why does Wolfsburg have no English version of their homepage? That's just silly and stupid. It's so easy to implement. They play in Europe ffs.

Well, it is actually partially in English (news, fan shop) but the ticketing is for example not translated

English is really a must in the current time. I actually think that Dortmund could step it up a bit in that regard aswell (right now only offering English and Japanese versions). Of course, you don´t need to be as tryhard as you guys, going even as far as offering a Bavarian version :smirk:.

Hey, when it comes to Germans, you guys have the best websites! I can actually find match reports for your summer friendlies which provides the squad and the amount of minutes each player played. Try doing the same for a Spanish/French team and you'll struggle! Germans ftw.

Wait, you mean from the first professional team, right? What the hell, I thought that was standart:lol:. At the pages of the German big clubs, you usually get pretty detailed informations from the games of even the youth teams (usually down to the U17 or U16).

The Bavarian version is standard. You're lucky that we added a German version to make it easier for you guys.

Yeah, the German clubs are great, but most of the other clubs are rubbish at posting squads and minutes. Some don't even bother with the minutes they just put 11 names up and write "some other people played too".

This sucks. They had such an exciting squad and season ahead of them just a couple of weeks ago.

Now Toprak and Aranguiz will miss half the season or more and then there was their rather unfortunate 1-0 loss against Lazio in the CL playoffs. They might even need a replacement for Aranguiz now, but if they miss out on CL money I'm not sure they will be able to spend in order to replace their injured big money signing.

It's not confirmed yet, let's hope for the best. So far it's only coming from Southamerican sources. If true (and I guess most likely it is), it's a real shame. Really liked what I've seen from him at the international tournaments and was looking forward to seeing him play in the league with Kramer and Bender :(.

/edit:
it's confirmed now :(

I went on their website to check prices, etc and google Chrome translated it for me, without me even asking it to...

We're now thinking of a Top Gear style road trip, from Manchester to Berlin, via France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany...possibly taking in a PSV game along the way should the schedule work out right...

substitutes: Ulreich - Dante, Thiago, Lewandowski, Rafinha, Bernat, Rode

Martinez, Badstuber and Ribery still missing injured.

This would be an ideal opportunity for Götze to show us what he's made of. He's now given the opportunity to shine in a central attacking role just like his supporters have been demanding. Now he has to show us something to build upon.

Isn't he starting as a striker? I think it's more interesting for the German nationalteam than for his future at Bayern.

Alaba with a questionable pass and Boateng reacted in slow motion. Good job guys. 9 seconds, what's the earliest goal ever scored in the league?

1-0 Hoffenheim, Volland scored:

How come Thiago is not starting? I don't follow Bayern or the Bundesliga that much, hence why I'm asking.

Not entirely sure to be honest. He had stomach flu or something like that last week, maybe he's not 100% fit yet and Pep doesn't want to risk another injury.

Unhappy Müller, I already miss him.

Is Volland's goal the fastest ever scored without having the kick-off? An 8 second goal is remarkable in itself, but made that much more remarkable by the fact that Hoffenheim didn't even start with the ball.

Pretty sure it's a Bundesliga record, at least.

Unhappy Müller, I already miss him.

He has more goals after one and a half matches than United has after 3...

Only 10 to Bundesliga Championship (we always won it in his career when he has 13 goals...). I hope Lewy comes in for Götze or Robben soon. Robben is not the one of old.

Only need Hannover to score for six 1-1s out of six.

feck it for a second Bayern tricked me into thinking the title race might actually be open(ish) for the first half of the season.

Let's laugh at Wolfsburg and Schalke though

How does Bayern win this? :D
Because teams shit in their pants for Bayern, there is hardly genuine ambition to beat them and almost everyone calculates a game against them as a loss. I despise that mentality.

Even if that is the case. No one can tell me Boateng doing his magic didn't change that for a while.
I mean let's be honest here (and I mean that without any kind of bitterness) Bayern simply got that bit of luck even the best teams occasionally need when Hoffenheim barely missed their penalty.

We didn't have a CB on the field from ~75'! Ludicrous scenes towards the end though!
