More interested in Letterman to be honest. He seems to imply something and seems to use humor to talk about it to make her feel more uneasy - like he's getting off on it. Just an observation. Could be wrong but I'm not really seeing what's he's implying as being entirely innocent.
She was born into it. I wouldn't judge someone that was born into something of this nature. They're as powerful as politicans in this day and age (actors/actresses celebs) and they can be as dumb as a lamp post.. I doubt most of them come up with much of what they say or stand for. Everything comes at a price. No one is going to be given a stage without some angle or some thing or that. I saw a skit of tom hanks taking this girl to a beauty pagent and calling her beautiful etc etc or you saw will smith kiss his son and says every parent does it....not the way he was doing it....lol. It's a mess. A complete mess.
That's a good article. A lot of the Weinstein revelations don't feel like they can possibly be revelations to those who worked with him, or moved in the same industry circles. That's not to say they had evidence of offences that could be reported to the police, or even direct information that could be given to the press without a libel suit bankrupting them, and indeed leaving them jobless.
Mind you, I had the same reaction to the Saville stories. As a kid, living in the area, I "knew" about him - we all did. I just don't believe that local social workers, police, the people he worked with at the BBC didn't know. When the abuse took place in hospitals, I don't believe that was unknown to staff either. Again perhaps nothing like to the standards of a court of law, but known nonetheless. Yet, very few have actually talked about what they knew, who they told, why they felt powerless to intervene, or indeed why they felt they couldn't intervene because it would hurt them or their employer.
So if ordinary people, who weren't being wined and dined and having our dream job bankrolled by the abuse, couldn't work out how to stop kids being abused, why is anyone surprised that people kept quiet (outside their own little bubble) about Weinstein?
I don't have to look at other things to deduce that Paltrow is a wrong headed sock puppet. She made her choices.

I don't know. It feels like bullying, perhaps because he's sat so close to her, but it's also standard Letterman - which in itself might be disturbing. Equally though, given the idea that Weinstein's behaviour is now accepted as a open secret, maybe he's the one going public with the accusation there. It's often the comedians who get away with giving away rumours first.
Bit of a copout though. She's a moron like. The whole jade egg thing is just weird. They have the power to choose not to advertise a rock egg as a health product with faux science, when it can actually be very dangerous.
I'm saying this off topic though, as I've not followed her involvement with this much, other than when people were saying she's being strangely quiet about it. Don't know if it's developed further.

The more awareness about this, the more people would be more likely to speak out and less likely to accept bullshit like this when they see it, both men and women. Apt too considering the thread here lately on sexist posts, as well as the Weinstein affair.

Highlighting this kind of thing is great, but I’m not sure about the social media method, appeals too much to the “don’t forget about me today” crowd.

Even if that can happen, I'd rather people talk about it than not. Part of the reason the abusers get away with it is because it's not discussed. There's an omerta that helps perpetuate it.
I think its a fantastic way to show solidarity and expose how under the radar some of these issues are with regards to sexual abuse and rape, and ive been both shocked and not surprised at some of my friends doing this. however i think it gets a bit diluted when harassment is thrown in, because what does that really entail? looking at descriptions it can be as little as a brief unwanted flirt in a nightclub. obviously this can in itself range to something very uncomfortable and traumatic but i cant for the life of me think that a lot of people doing this on social media, giving the fact that we even have a thread in the general talking about how stupid people can be on social media, don't really understand what they're saying when they jump on the hashtag? if that makes any sense.

You'll be hard pressed to find a woman in her 20's who hasn't been the victim of some kind of unwarranted approach, some worse than others of course.

On a serious note, I don't find it surprising that many if not all women were sexually assaulted at least once in their lives? Pretty fecking sad it's that way and that in 2017, we need a campaign like this to rear its head. What you may find surprising is the amount of women who were sexually abused by their own family, often as children. I've had quite a number of women tell me about it in the past and it's shocking how much this seems to happen.
Don't make that mistake, this is sexual harassment, not sexual assault. There's a gigantic difference - as deplorable as both are.

Agreed. The real issue is being diluted here and it just enables every drama queen who's ever been wolf-whistled into seeking attention. The premise (raising awareness) is good but the method is counter-productive.

Considering this hashtag is probably capturing all women who have been harassed, assaulted, raped, etc. The numbers are sadly not surprising. Unfortunately not many women will have escaped unwanted stares, comments, whistles, and far far worse.

Irked by the word "drama queens" here - what I'm seeing from friends is not just people joining in with a fad, but writing harrowing details of experiences they've had. Fairly no holds barred explanations of things that have happened to them. That's what I mean when I say it's horrifying in both for what it is and in how common it seems.

What? Where’s that stat from? That’s an insane number.
An assumption? Then go and ask them. Of my closest 10 female friends, at least 2-3 have been raped, and every single one has experienced some form of non-consensual sexual assault. Not harrassment, not 'wolf whistling', but a man trying to physically force them into sexual contact. Does that sound like the kind of 'unwanted advance' you've had to deal with?
I would say a large majority of the population have experienced sexual harassment. I remember being out clubbing and meeting a hen party, literally had all the buttons of my shirt ripped off and it was all fun and games to them. It was a nice fecking shirt man.

'At least 2-3' doesn't sound very convincing and all 10 had charges laid I presume?
As a matter of fact I have had plenty up to and including a situation that would easily have been a rape charge had it been the other way around.
In any case this campaign is not about criminal acts. Its about any kind of harassment, which is far too loose a definition.
My mates sister once, steaming she was, stuck her hand down my boxers whilst I was kipping. Big girl too so couldn’t get her off, had to literally shout her brother awake from the other room to come wrestle her off.
Been on the end of some other pretty rapey experiences too, as I say, humans are a bit mingin, especially where booze is involved.

The only case I know was from one of my korean girlfriends. She was in a Hostel in Auckland NZ, and some Indian guy tried to get into her bed out of nowhere. (I'm guessing if 1 in 7 in USA, in India it's even worse)
