CL: Manchester United vs Fenerbahce 28/09/04

I must admit I froze for a moment when I saw the midfield line-up and wondered if Fergie had finally booked his bed in the Funny Farm.

First half Fenerbahce were awful but that goal bang after half-time geed them up a lot and despite leading 3-1 at that point, the game looked very much on.

Ruud's goal to make it 5-2 finally put the lid on it thankfully.

Amazing debut from Rooney - his free kick made me laugh. A certain Mr Beckham made a career out of scoring those kind of goals and this lad from Liverpool scores them on his debut to notch his hat-trick.

Brilliant attacking performance but our defending from set-plays was woeful. A better team than Fenebahce will make us pay far more heavily for those mistakes in the future unless we sort them out soon.

fantastic win, although we really really really need to work on our defense...-_-''
can't wait to watch the replay.. which is in...5 hours  ;)

If it were a better team, our midfielders would've been different, nevertheless wondrous debut for Rooooooooooooooney!!!!!!!

amazing performance by Rooney.. score 3 goals in his debut.. and he's still 18 years old..

and he's got a big neck.. the Jersey neck is not fit on him so it must been torn ?

i think he changed his kit in the second half.. did he?

I was generally inpressed with us last night. It was the best attacking display i've seen for a while. Of course with the up there are always downs.
Eric Djemba Djemba was largely annonymous and failed miserably in his role of breaking up Fenerbache attacks, leaving rio and Mickey, at times facing 3 attackers. If he is to play when Keane is rested he needs a much improved performance.
David Bellion was also very disappointing, although he did score he was second best against a left back that is clearly not Champions League standard.
The defending from set pieces was poor, not only did we concede 2 sloppy goals we were also in trouble a number of other times.

Well that's enough of the downs, now for the ups

Heinze once again a great performance, very unlucky to get booked for a perfectly fair challenge.
Kleberson played well in the first half and splayed some good passes around. Showed flashes of what he is good at. He took, unfairly, some of the blame of Djemba Djemba poor performance. He wasn't in the midfield to win the ball he was there to start the attacks, which he did well.
And lastly - Rooney. Absolutely brilliant (nothing else needs to be said)

I've just finished reading through the entire thread from start to end. Just to relive the experience. And i'm now walking around office with a huge goofy grin on my face.

What a performance!!

Yes,
Got home with about ten minutes gone and watched the rest of course I didnt know who won the game until TSN showed the score on the bottome of the screen.

Kinda reminds me of 99 scoring 6 goals like we did against bromby away.
